INTRODUCTION
Functional areas is defined as the departments with the organization that are concerning
to the specialized course of work with the potential employees who is having integrated set of
skills and abilities. There are different functional areas that are working with the sole of aim of
generating higher revenue and profitability. It includes finance, human resource, marketing,
research and development and so on. For this respective report, IMO Ltd. Is the chosen business
taken from the case study and will be considered in it. As per this, John is 21 year old and also
having very less experience. He just won £10 million in lottery and the he just decided to buy the
local organization and also having sole of generating more profits. This is the regional company
in which approx. 200 employees are working over two sites in Manchester and Liverpool.
Various functional areas and the set of skills required for the effective employees will be
discussed in this report.
2.0 What is a business?
It is defined as the separate legal entity which is meant for the purpose of commercial
business and it can be profit oriented or non-profit companies. They are having range of business
such as sole trader, partnership, limited liability company etc. These all type of business are
conducting certain activities so that they can generate more revenue and expand their market to
establish good brand image.
3.0 What is Functional areas of business -
Every business s working with the helps of various departments by which they can
establish the better results by conducting work done with the specialized employees. In context
to IMO Electronics, there are different business units that are working by which they can have
more profits.

4.0 What are the key functional areas of a business?
There are certain department that are working in IMO Electronics Ltd., such as
marketing, human resource, customer services, sales as all these business units are working with
the aim of having more profits(Ohno and et. al.,2021). In consideration to the IMO Electronics
Ltd, there are various departments that includes human resource, sales, customer services and
marketing who all are working by hiring specified employees so that they can generate more
revenue and profitability.
5.0 Description of the various functional areas in business
organizations
5.1 Marketing:
It is the business unit which usually engage in promoting the various goods and services
of an organization with the aim of attract large group of customer at a point of time (Xia and et.
al., 2020). In relation to IMO Electronics Ltd., marketing manager is using various marketing
technique so that they can get effective brand recognition.
5.2 Human Resource Management:
It is the backbone for any organization which is basically engage in recruiting and
selecting the potential candidate who can perform their job role in well defined manner and also
having the main consideration of having better results. There are also concern for training and
development of the employees along with this, salary, leave payroll all are being managed by the
human resource manager of IMO Electronics Ltd.,
5.3 Customer Service:
It is the business which which directly connect to the customer for before and after sale
of the products for their assistance. It is important to every organization to have better customer
services so that they can loyal to IMO Electronics Ltd., and this can be made by understanding
the insights of the customers.
5.4 Finance:
It is the business unit which plan all the budget is being needed in different department so
that all the task can be rightly accomplished with the help of innovation and use of advance

technology. In IMO Electronics Ltd., they are making best use of their available resources and
also allocating the funds in required field.
5.5 Research and Development:
It is the business unit in which the group of people are engage in conducting research
and development or understanding the needs and wants of their customers in order to fulfill
them. In IMO Electronics Ltd., they are planning to launch the new products and also doing the
required change with the help of R&D team. These aspects helps in serving the customer base
and they are being loyal to their brand by which they can rightly meet the competitive advantage
in the market to be the market leader.
5.6 Sales:
It is the business unit which is basically conducting the goo relationship with the
customer and selling their products and services. It also helps in promoting the overall growth of
the business and their retention to the brand by offering quality goods. In context to IMO
Electronics Ltd., they are having the better approach for selling their products and by which they
can generate higher revenue and profitability. All the departments are working with them so that
they can contribute to the higher productivity of the company.
6.0 Description of the types of skills needed by employees to be able
to work effectively in these functional areas
6.1 Skills needed by Marketing employees
Communication: It is the attribute of the person by which the transfer of message takes
place from one person to another wit the aim of make them understand. By this, all the
task can be completed in a appropriate manner with the help of accurate information to
them. In IMO Electronics Ltd., better communication also leads to convince their
targeted customer to making purchase of their goods and services.
Attention to deal: It is the skill is associated with the marketing manager as they are
directly dealing to the customers so they skill helps them to convince their prospective
customers for purchasing more products and services in the market and company can
generate more revenue as well. In IMO Electronics Ltd., they rightly cover the large
customer base by offering the better services to them.

Proactivity: To be the human resource manager, It is important for the individual to be
be the proactive as they think and analyses the need of the employees in various job role
and recruit them accordingly. In context to IMO Electronics Ltd., this helps is meeting
the requirement of the number of workforce so that all the task can be completed in an
appropriate manner.

have the better approach in the market. The person must have the qualification in their
