ASSESSMENT 1
Question 1
The concept of value creation is defined as a system, which converts premature or raw
object into a mature or final product that has a value in its field. It is necessary for an
organization to develop the best structure of processes for creating a value (Annarelli and
Nonino, 2016). In the present scenario of the Gauteng University (GU), ‘value’ here stands for
an employable student. The value creation process here is to develop astudent, which increases
its competency level and academic intelligence viastep by step academic processes that are
attending the lectures, preparing assignments and passing the tests and in the end, leave the
University with an approved qualification.
It is addressed that the main facts of focus for the university’s value creation process is to
ensure that the students fulfilall the standards and qualify the courses as prepared by the
Department of Higher Education. A qualified student who has a qualification from GU is termed
as Final Value.
Question 2
It is addressed that business process is a set of relevant activities or tasks structured in a
specific manner which processes a sequence that produces a product or form of service (Osei-
Kyei and Chan, 2017). Both the methods, Academic process and Administrative process, run
parallel in a constant flow with a motive to gain the final outcome which is sequenced as below:
Step 1: Student submits an online registration formfor qualification.
Step 2:An administrative officer verifies and the controller approves the confirmed
application.
Step 3:Student receives a confirmation of registration via GU app
Step 4: The enrolment manager forwards the information to the venue coordinator and
maintenance manager who addresses a proper venue for students.
Step 5: A lecturer is assigned to prepare and presenting for lectures. Lecturer assures that
the lecture results are parallel with the qualification results.
Step 6: The students submits the assessments on GU app in order to know their
competency.
Step 7: The lecturer checks and forwardsthe same, to the moderator for quality control.

Step 8: The result is uploaded by the lecturer on the Student Information System (SIS).
Step 9: The SIS concludes that the student is capable of the qualification. The list of
qualified student is forwarded to Graduation controller for graduation ceremony where
the student receives his/her qualification.
Question 3
Value creation process is determined from a set of characteristics, which acts as the
pillars to its formation, functioning and consistency which are as follows:
Repeatable: A process is a form of sequence which keeps on repeating its task step by
step. It is necessary for an organisation to setup its operations cycle in a repetitive manner
which helps them perform all their activities in a certain procedure and develop a
technique to finish the product (North and Kumta, 2018).
Consistent: It is essential for an organisation to maintain a consistency in their results
every time. The outcome has to be same in order to manage the quality and cost of the
product.
Reliable:It depicts that a business needs to attain reliability over their process of
operations by avoiding loopholes and breakdowns by maintaining level of performance
and proper form of efforts(Cokins, 2017).
Question 4
Operational manager is the person that manages all the functions and operations of the
organisation and it is essential for them to attain the following skills:
CriticalThinking: It is obtained that gathering wide and point to point information is
highly helpful in making decisions and generating ideas (Adekola and Sergi, 2016).
Similarly, GU also simultaneously arranges tests and assessments for the students for
scrutinising the best of them.
Holistic Thinking: Creating an image of structure and result prior implementation helps
each agent to highlight his or her actions and their effects on the other agent. GU has
designed and integratesa qualification process which classifies duties of every agent at
every stage of graduation.
Linking Operations with Strategy: It is vital for an operational manager to connect
their organisation functions with their approach of gaining result (Agrawal and Rahman,

2015).Similar to this, GU has also formed a set of operations at every stage of
qualification program which eventually leads to their strategic plan of increasing
competency of students.
ASSESSMENT 2
Journal Reflection
By going through the entire study, I have gained a lot of information over the topic
operational management. I feel that every organisation is based on a set of repetitive actions and
processes which helps them to attain their required outcome. In addition, I realize that the study
should have highlighteddeeper information about critical topics like importance, responsibilities,
etc. As per my perspective, the study lacks the information over drawbacks, advantages,
disadvantages, and limitations of operational management. I understood that how all the
operations are properly structured and processed together in a logical manner, which help the
organisation to stay competitive, and leads to the motive of surviving in the business
environment and gain profits.
Beyond this, I expanded my knowledge on the subject ‘value creation process’ which has
become the main focus point of teams, managers and individuals of an organisation. According
to me, the study should be more advanced in the matter processes of value creation to overcome
the future issues like rising unemployment, decreasing natural resources, developing technology,
etc. In the end, I conclude that my learning of overall operational management approaches has
achieved a higher level and will look forward to gain information on relevant matter.
