Executive Summary
Personal and professional development of an individual is very important for
the growth and development of an individual both in personal and professional life.
This is a basic step which an individual must take in order to gain success in future.
There are various types of goals which can be achieved by an individual. Goals
achievement is for the development of both personal and professional skills which
will help an individual to get the dream job and career they wish or desire for. The
goals can be short term, medium term and long term, depending upon the time take
to accomplish them. It is very important to first categories them by an individual so
that they can make suitable action plan to achieve them.

Task One:
Definition of the concept of personal and professional development
Personal & professional development is just a kind of way where an
organization and various people evolve to overcome obstacles and accomplish goals
which are desired by them. It is linked to an individual’s personal including areas for
improvement. Researchers identified and assessed essential personal and
professional management skills such as punctuality, holding meetings, delivering
seminars of various kinds, managing stress levels, etc., which may be performed by
examining existing capabilities and developing and also the implementation of plans
relating to Personal Development (Madalińska-Michalak, 2019). Analysing present
capabilities, along with planning and implementing personal growth strategies, can
help an individual accomplish it. Counselling and providing coaching personnel to
help them master their individual learning and development requirements are
professional abilities. Professional qualities such as leadership, management, and
various other abilities that come through self-development and ongoing efforts by a
mentor who guides the employees by providing them with successful and well-
presented presentations, also include the following (Smith and Lewis, 2017).
Mentorship is a useful strategy for learning & skill development. It's an instrument
which is linked well with the promotion of personal growth.

Short term goals are those goals in the personal and professional
development plan that is achieved by an individual in a very less time. Such a time
taken by an individual is usually less than one year. These goals are considered to
be very important for the enhancement of individual’s skills and personality as by it,
they gain skills which are valuable for them and also they gain information which is
used by them for their growth in present and in future (Shagrir, 2017).
To set the short term goals by an individual, they must initially analyse and
assess all their weaknesses so that they can create an action plan which can be
achieved by them in short duration. Individuals develops skills which further help

them to gain success in their future career role and growth. Below mentioned are few
of the examples of short term goals.

Medium term goals are those goals of an individual which take longer time than
that of the short term goals of an individual. This usually take more than one year to
achieve the goals and targets set by the individual in their action plan. When any
individual seems to be interested in developing skills for their new employment, they
shall focus upon medium term goals so that they can achieve it effectively
(Starostina and Sosnina, 2020). Below mentioned are few of the examples of
medium term goals that can be achieved by the individuals.

These are the types of goals which takes very long time for an individual to attain
and develop. It takes longer duration than that of both short term and long term goals
of an individual (Helmchen and Melo-Pfeifer, 2018). These goals are long term as it
requires great perfection and achievement of skills which is not temporary for the
new career employment opportunities. But this also helps an individual in very long
run. This is very much important for the overall personal and professional
development of an individual to gain future growth and success. Below are the few
examples of the long term goals which can be achieved by an individual.

Personal Development Planning (PDP) is defined as "a planned as well as
coordinated approach through which an individual reflects according to their own
learning, performances, and accomplishment (Conway and Edgar, 2020). It also
helps in planning for their interpersonal, academic, and professional life. PDP assists
students in achieving the following goals:
 Become more adept in tracking and evaluating their development.
 Think about how people learn and how you might help them become more
