LO 5 Theories of management and organizational structures relating to workplace
Managing an organisation is not an easy task because managers have to focus on various
aspects which can make a huge impact on profit or loss earned by any enterprise. Structure of an
organisation play crucial role in their working. Manta Bell City believes in decentralisation and
this is the prime reason that they have flat structure. When manager delegate their authority to
subordinate then it reduces their workload and juniors get motivation, as they feel that superiors
trust them and their skills. Normally people think that manager and leaders are same think but in
study of management they are different (Islam and et. al., 2011). Prior one keeps his/her focus on
things and do the work relating to planning, organising, controlling, directing etc. while later one
concentrate on ''people''.
Their are various theories of management but the most important among them is
Maslow's theory of motivation. It is as follows:
Physiological needs – Basic needs of human being like food, water, home etc. are
considered as the biggest motivation in the life of an individual. If any employee in Manta Bell
City hotel is facing any issue relating to fulfilling of necessary desires then it he/she can be
motivated by giving them house or free food.

Safety need – If a company assure security of employees then they can motivate them for
delivering desirable outcome. Safety can be related to employment, health, family, property etc.
If an organisation open their office in an areas where violence is high then they will demotivate
employees. Personnel would not like to work in this kind of company (Lerner and Malmendier,
2013). Manta Bell hotel can make necessary adjustment in their policies in order to assure job
security to the employees. This can be a great motivation from the side of this organisation.
Social need – Every personal has some social wants. They want to have friends and
family. Employee seek love and friendship because they are human being. An organisation
should provide holidays and proper leave to the worker so thy can spend time with their relatives
and their social desires get fulfil. This will motivate them to perform better and expand their
limit as they will always work with a fresh mind.
Esteem need – Respect is one thing which every person want in his/her life. The need of
recognition and getting high status is another kind of motivation which can be used for
convincing workers so desired task result can be obtained from their side. This hotel should give
awards to their employees and promote them on new position so the needs relating to respect can
get fulfilled.
Self actualisation need – If company can assure an employees that they will get the best
out of them so they can attain highest position according to their talent then it will be considered
as a great source of motivation (Meskendahl, 2011). This need is at the top of pyramid which is
given by Maslow.
Manta Bell City Hotel is has attained success in their business because they have used
right kind of motivation in every situation. Leaders of this organisation played an important role
in development of this hotel. Their enterprise has adopted democratic style of leadership where
managers do not make decision without taking views from their subordinates. Below are various
theories relating to organisational structural:
Classical organisational theory – This thinking is connected with three issues, scientific
management, bureaucracy and administration. First is related to hiring best person and
investigation of every task related to production. Second one is connected with forming an
hierarchy so labour can be managed in an efficient and effective way (Theories About
Organizational Structure. 2018). Administration theory focuses on setting some principles

regarding management, they will be application to complete organisation for their smooth
working.
Neoclassical organisation theory – This theory raised the issue of having a positive
workplace environment. It argues that clear & common purpose and values is essential for
improving productivity of employees. Superior should transfer their authority to juniors and they
should accept it. Crux of this theory is ''equilibrium''.
Contingency theory – According to this concept, finding a proper way for accomplishing
a particular work is not possible (Safko, 2011). It argues that manager should adopt different
strategy for attaining their goals, they need to focus on situation which is present in current
scenario. Contingency theory also talk about conflicts, it says that it is unavoidable but
manageable.
System theory – As per this concept, there are various part in an organisation and they are
interrelated with each other. If one segment of an enterprise with see small change then it can
make a minor or huge impact on the other parts.
Strategies made Manta Bell City Hotel is convinced from both contingency and system
theory. They understand that everything cannot go according to their plan because of rapidly
changing business environment of Australia. This is the main reason that they do not invest much
time of making plans (Trkman, 2011). They make their moves according to current scenario.
Hospitality industry is related to service sector. If one facility in a hotel in not proper then it will
make a huge impact on other amenities provided by other divisions. This organisation understand
importance of system theory and they try to provide a complete package of good service to their
customer because one small mistake can negatively impact image of this hotel as every function
is interrelated.
Like of every organisation, they have also committed various blunders but by analysing
and implementing theories of management this company can resolve issues relating to internal
conflicts and they can register more revenue by delivering best services to the customers.
Employees are most significant assets and they should be treated in proper way (Teece, 2011).
Their growth is directly proportional to the development of organisation.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that every organisation has set some standards
in terms of ethics so they can maintain integrity and fairness at workplace. Organisational culture
