recommendations will be made. One of them will be qualitative and one will be quantitative
article. In addition to this, the assignment will also provide critical review of literature on the
article.
MAIN BODY
Qualitative Journal
Title: How to Manage an Employee Who Always Makes Excuses
Introduction
The first journal which has been presented in the following assignment is qualitative
journal which is related to “Management”. The following term can be defined as the organisation
and coordination established in between the different activities performed in an organisation in
order to achieve its goals and objectives. It is important for the companies to manage their day to
day routines properly so that the company could achieve the goals and objectives in an effective
manner. In this journal, firstly the discussion is made about the employees who gives excuses for
the non completion of their work within time. However, it is also possible that they may have a
valid excuse but not always. So it becomes important for the companies to make possible to
reduce the excuses as much as possible in order to make the working of the companies. So in this
journal, the next part is considered with the ways by which the company can handle and reduce
the excuses presented by the employees for the non completion of their work. The journal
provides the reader with a many solutions to the companies so as to make the employees to work
not to give excuses.
Literature Review
According to Paul Petrone (2018), it is a continuous process of employees that once they
make excuses and are accepted by the management, than it becomes their continuous habit to
make excuses as they do not want to work. So it is very important for the management to be clear
with their goals and objectives and how to make their employees to work better. The

management of an organisation can analyse the situation such as knowing about the problem, if
there any faced by the employees at the workplace or due to nay other reason. As it is not
possible that always that the employees are making excuses because the do not want to work.
But in some cases, the employees do the same as they do not feel to work. So this type of feeling
in employees is a part of leisure. It comes when the employees are provided more freedom than
of what is needed and sufficient. This also impacts negatively on the working of the company
and distracts and destroys the dedication to work of other employees also. The company with the
help of various measures such as increasing the employee engagement, reinforcing the positive
behaviour in the mindset of people can make the employees to work effectively and efficiently
so that they could also make their contribution towards the success, growth and development of
organisation. The interest in the work could also be increased by providing them with different
works so that their interest in working could be increased. They will have new experiences in
working and also their curiosity will increase which will give rise to the feeling to work in them.
Along with this, it also becomes the responsibility of the company to identify the issues faced by
employees in working so that they could remove them and could provide the best possible
environment to the employees contributing towards the achievement of individuals as well as
organisational goals.
Research Methodology
The following journal is containing qualitative data. This type of data can be defined as
the data which provides only the theoretical knowledge about the topic discussed or the concept.
It makes use of theories or models in order to provide justification for the information provided
in them. In the following journal the research design which is used in Qualitative. In addition to
this, the journal is containing secondary sources of data. These type of data can be defined as the
second hand collection of data (Garlapati, 2016). In other words, it can be defined as the data
which is already having some published source. The Research Approach which is used in the
following journal is Inductive Approach. The basic means of using this approach is because this
approach emphasizes more on the existing facts and figures. On the basis of the observations
made the following journal, certain hypothesis could be developed which can prove to be helpful
in future for the organisations in order to compare the past and present experiences.

From the above article, it has been founded that the discussion in the overall article is
made about the ways by which the employees of an organisation can be made to do work. The
reasons due to which the employees do not work are included in this part and also the discussion
has been made about the how the employees can be managed properly to work. The reasons
presented in this article are not only related to the regular excuses but also involves those excuses
which are not in real treated as excuses. Hence, it is recommended to the companies to analyse
properly the behaviour of all the employees of the company so that on the very basis their nature
can be judged and the excuses can also be. This will help the company in knowing the about the
dedicated employees and those also who do not come with a wish to work. In addition to this, it
is also recommended that organisations should make proper evaluation of their rules, policies
and procedures from time to time and make changes in them accordingly.
Qualitative Journal
Title: The Benefits and Challenges Hospitality Management Students Experience by
Working in Conjunction with Completing their Studies.
Introduction
The following is a Quantitative Journal in which the discussion has been made about the
benefits and challenges faced by the students during the course of their study of hospitality
management. The situation presented in this journal is related to the study done on the students at
the time of completing their degrees along with getting experiences by teaching students in the
school. In the following journal, the issue is also concerned with the senior level hospitality
which are graduates and students.
Literature Review
According to Donald G. Schoffstall (2013), working along with studying have many
benefits as well as challenges for the students. So it becomes important for them to review their
decisions regarding working or studying. With the help of this, they will be able to manage time
for their study and other related works. As the mental capability of every human being is not the
same so they should consider their own skills and capabilities and make right decisions. As it
impacts upon their studies so it is important for them to firstly manage time for their studies and
then for working, in case it becomes possible. As mentioned in the journal 26.7% of students
were working on an average of 21 to 30 hours per week and 23.3% were founded to be working
for more than 31 hours per week.

Research Methodology
In the following journal, the research design used in Quantitative. In accordance with this
approach, it contains the numerical data in it which provides exact figures or an estimation in
order to increase the reliability of research. The research approach used in this journal is
Deductive Approach. The following approach is used in case the research is containing
quantitative data. In addition to this, the journal has made use of secondary source of data. As the
journal contains the data which has been already published by some or the other person. As on
the basis of previous data, the comparison can be made easily with the results of present with the
past in order to make an proper estimation or evaluation (Hess and Cottrell, 2016).
Research Findings and Recommendations
From the following journal, it has been founded that it is not possible for everyone to
properly manage both the works at the single time such as working and studying. The result of
this actions of students will come to failure. It is because of no concentration on even one task.
Neither they will be able to study nor be able to manage the working. So, it is recommended that
both working and studying should be done by properly analysing the capabilities of the
individuals so that they can manage their work easily and at least could concentrate on even one
task and get success. In addition to this, it is also recommended that working along with studying
will help in the improvement in their own knowledge and skills so as to perform better and
efficient.
Critical Review of Qualitative Journal and Qualitative Book
Title: Make Your Employees Feel Psychologically Safe.
The following is the book written by Amy C. Edmondson, in which the information about
how to make the employees to feel safe in the company is considered. The following book
focuses on the reasons due to which the employees do not feel good while doing their work. In
addition to this, the focus has also been made on some employees who do face any issue during
working but they make excuses in order to prevent themselves from working. However, the book
has also presented some of the major issues due to which several problems in the organisation
arises such as employee absenteeism, excuses made by employees for not to work and many
more (Mellahi and Harris, 2016). So in order to eradicate these issues, it is becomes important
for the organisations to make sure that the employees are working in a good workplace and
having good working environment. The place of actual working should be safe, clean, hygiene

and must provide the employees with all the necessary requirements. In this assignment, the
discussion has also been made earlier about the management of employees as such they are
really facing some issues or are making of excuses. So the discussion of the critical review on
these two, journal and book is discussed below.
According to Amy C. Edmondson (2018), the main reason behind the dissatisfaction
among employees is because of their mental distraction. They do not feel safe to work in the
companies because of the perceptions made by them in relation to the organisation's
environment. The reason is also because sometimes the concerns of employees are not heard by
the top level management, after putting them many times in front of the management. This
situation creates a feeling of demotivation among the employees due to which they make excuses
towards their work or coming to office (Müller and et. al., 2016). So it becomes important for the
organisation to put their focus on improving firstly the working environment provided by the
company to employees so that they could feel safe to work. Than organisations can create
psychological impact on the mindset of the employees and make them to work. The benefits will
be considered only when the company makes the first improvement in their own services and
secondly focuses on changing the mindset of employees. Than only the method will be
beneficial.
According to Paul Petrone (2018), The reasons may be different of the decrease in the
dedication of employees to work. The state of mind of people to people are different from each
other. The journal further provided that not always the reasons provided by employees prove to
be true, sometimes excuses are also made by them which shows leisure in them. It becomes very
important for the organisation to handle these kind of situation in order to make the working of
organisation stable because employees are the most important asset of an organisation and in
case the company lacks in managing this asset, the survival of the company will become
impossible. So the main focus on this journal is on focusing the ways by which the employees
excuses could be reduced.
Both of the presented materials have their own importance in the sense they are used. For
example, considerations assumed in the book are also right as the first and foremost focus of the
company is to make evaluation of their own services provided by the company to their
employees, as they are enough for them to work such as good working environment, better
workplace, rewards and incentives, all these impacts upon the working of an organisation and

also no the dedication of employees to work. Only after this the company will be able to
influence the mindset of employees to work. The other one is also true as it also discusses about
managing the employees in a good way so that they stop making excuses related to work and
perform the given tasks in an efficient and effective way. In this journal the focus has been made
on providing the employees with diverse responsibilities so that their efficiency could be
increased and in the same relation their wish to work will also increase (Sadgrove, 2016).
To some extent also, these articles also do not provide proper and needed information on
which the human behaviour can be judged. As the human behaviour is not consistent so it will be
very difficult for the companies to analyse the human behaviour and know about the real
problem faced by them in working and making difference in between the real problems and
excuses made by the employees.
