1. Introduction
Personal as well as professional development are quintessential for every individual
in order to enhance their ability to acquire the appropriate learning, skills and
competencies that can facilitate the same in achievement of their respective goals
and aspirations. Personal and professional development can be termed as the
systematic as well as formal method of achievement of goals and objectives in
relation with the learning of an individual as well as the training of the same. This
report details about the concept of personal and professional development. It
discusses about the value and importance of short, medium and long term goals.

The report includes an individual development plan which can lead to the
enhancement of necessary abilities in individuals that can help the same in
accomplishment of their future desires and life goals.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
Personal and professional development are necessary for an individual as they
elevate and encourage the enhancement of an individual's ability to perceive
concerned situations and also facilitate the same in forming appropriate decisions
and strategies pertaining to the specific situation. Professional development focuses
on building and shaping an individual with necessary skill set so as to suit his/her job
position and to excel in the same whereas personal development highlights upon the
adoption of specif characteristics and traits in an individual's overall personality
which has the ability to enhance and uplift the same in order to develop the individual
at a personalized manner.
Business organizations should also focus on development of the prevailing skills and
cognitive knowledge of the individuals in order to enhance their productivity and
flexibility in their operations (Morimoto, 2020). The ongoing drive of an individual to
enhance their personal and professional development can bring positive change in
their lives. It will help the same to optimize on good opportunities, strengthen their
confidence and motivation, enhance their current understanding of crucial concepts
etc. Both of the development opportunities will help the individuals in expanding their
line of work and assist their future career plans.
3. Description and discussion of the value of short term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Formation of short term goals are to accomplish and achieve the goals and
objectives within a time phrase of one year. Short term goals are extremely valuable
as they are high achievable and accomplish-able. These goals are very specific in
nature which leads to the generation of enhanced concentration and focus in
alignment of the same. Short term goals also facilitate in reducing the degree of
procrastination and motivates the individual to exhibit their full potential in the
realization of the goals. These goals increase the productivity of an individual and
propel the same to yield their best performance. Relevant and reliable short term
goals also facilitates in the accomplishment of the long term goals as they provide a
clear direction to an individual and briefs the same about the path that needs to
followed in order to gain higher results and outcomes in the future run. In order to
realize my future aspiration of I formulates three short term goals. The first goal was
to complete my graphic design program in the coming six months and to acquire the
diploma in the same. The second goal was to buy a laptop in the time phrase of
three months and my third goal was to watch some great work of the best designers
across the world in order to gain inspiration from the same (Horn, 2020).

The medium term goals are relatively for a longer time phrase in comparison to short
term goals. The individuals aiming for medium term goals have adequate time with
them so as to make steady and gradual progress in order to realize the same in an
effective manner. Medium term goal provides the best of short as well as long term
goals as they are mildly specific and enough time is available with than individual to
achieve the same. It is considered to be vital if an individual set out their medium
term goal post their graduation so they have ample to concentrate on those goals
and align the same with the career objectives of the individuals. The mid term goals
are advised to be established after the completion of the short term goals so that a
system sequence chain can be formulated by an individual in order maintain a record
of the goals fulfilled by an individuals and the goals that are yet to achieved. My
medium term goals involve is capitalizing on a good internship opportunity from a
popular designing organization. My next mid term goal is to search for other
productive job roles in fashion industry that can facilitate me in building my
connections and relationships in the industry (Bertelli, 2017). My last mid term goal
is to manage my time efficiently and productively in order to effectively multi task and
relish the benefits related with the same.
5. Description and discussion of the value of long term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Long term goals are formulated for a very long period of time and can be
considered to be the most valuable goals of all time. These are characterized as
valuable as they have the ability to change the life of individuals in the future.
They are very challenging in nature as they requires you to introspect your
internal values and test your willingness and passion to sustain the progress till
the achievement of the long term goals. Formulating long term goals adds more
purpose and furthermore drives you to be consistent and work hard to realize the
same in your life. These goals comes with greater advantages as compared to
short and mid term goals (Kharadze and Gulua, 2018). Long term goals may be
time consuming but the advantage associated with the same are long lasting.
These goals provides you with a road map and a plan that needs to be followed
in order to achieve your lifelong desires of success and growth. My long term
goals that will alleviate my career plan involve establishing my personal line of
stores. My next long term goal is to partner with a successful fashion line so as to
ensure future stability and security for my line of operations. My last long term
goal is to provide my services in various charitable trusts so as to leverage from
the same in the upcoming years.
6. Description and discussion of the value of a Personal
Development Plan
The personal development plan are very essential for an individual as they provide
the same with an opportunity to identify their weak skills and the areas where they
lack the most and to formulate a plan which can provide assistance to the individuals

in enhancement of the weaker sections of their personality (Salter and
Rhodes,2018). Personal develop plan can help an individual in identification of the
career opportunities prevailing in the current environment and the skills aligned with
the same and needs to be incorporated or established in order to optimize on those
career opportunities. PDP can help an individual to manage their time effectively and
focus their effort and time on the factors that can facilitate the individual in
achievement of their life goal. The formulation of PDP allows the individual in
elimination of he factors and features which are not aligned or relevant to the future
plan of the individuals. Hence, helping the same in becoming time efficient and more
productive. It is important for every individuals to plan a personal development
statement that will allow the individual to analyze and measure how far a person has
reach in order to achieve their future development plans. It can also help an
individual to monitor and control the specific sections of the plans which requires a
systematic assessment so as to measure the outcomes associated with the same.
Individuals that invest their time and energy in the planning of personal development
plan are likely achieve their goals faster and much better in comparison to those
individuals who do not follow a personal development plan and are not following a
systematic path for the accomplishment of the respective goals and desires. Thus, in
order to raise the overall skill pattern of an individual and in order to facilitate the
attainment of the desires of an individual in a limited time phrase, it is essential that
an individual forms a effective, productive and reliable personal development
plan(Holloway, 2017).
7.0 Conclusion
From the above mentioned information, it can be concluded that personal and
professional development has a major role to play in an individual's growth and
development. Both are very necessary in order to enhance an individual's overall
learning experience and also facilitate in building their career plans. There are
various alternatives for goal setting available with an individual such as short term,
long term and medium term goals. Every goal has a time limited aligned to it and has
its respective pros and cons which needs to be assessed by an individual. In order
to achieve the personal development plans, an individual needs to carefully assign
the time limit to the goals so that they can be achieved in an effective and productive
manner without any delay.
