Informal story
How are you? I hope you are doing well. I faced some issues in office lately where I had
to endure this very strange guy for a long time. I just thought I should let you know. There was
this colleague of mine whom I met and my first thought was “wow he can really do his job”.
Soon he became my team’s manager and I became very positive about the future at that time.
Now our team had long seasoned people and even I was able to catch the job quickly so I can say
there were no performance problem. But this guy slowly began to grow a humungous ego
problem. At first we started to ignore his ego issues. Soon he started to become very bossy and
rude. He even started to unnecessarily bully some of my team members that were not up to the
mark. There was a strange uneasiness within the team. But still on a positive note we thought this
will change with time, but some of my colleagues said, it won’t. Nonetheless very soon his
behavior began to get worse as the team performance came down a notch. The team despite that
was still performing above the standards. The supervisor now began to seriously insult the
subordinates, especially the underperformers in the team. He began to call many of us names and
some of this was very insulting. Once I delayed my work and he crossed his limits in insulting
me. I thought “this is it”. I and my colleagues decided to take the matter to the higher authorities.
The HR was informed and a long meeting was held with all the senior managers the supervisors
and all the team members. The matter was resolved temporarily but within a month the
supervisor resigned saying that he cannot manage us. I think now these kind of problems are
everywhere in the corporate world.

Recently an employee and his colleagues at an advertising agency faced issues related to

the concerned employee first met the supervisor as a senior colleague. Very soon the colleague
achieved the post of a senior and some specific issues started to affect the person. He directly
came under the supervision of his former colleague. The senior colleague then began to develop
some serious behavioral issues that affected his subordinates along with the concerned person.
Despite initial successes the team began to lose confidence and an uneasiness was witnessed
among the colleagues. The senior colleague gradually began to develop even more ego. It was
within a short time that he even began insulting the people that worked under him. The
concerned person was also involved in the same. The team was performing well despite the
issues that were affecting the relationship between the senior manager and his team. He began to
bully some of his subordinate team members that were not performing up to the mark. He even
started name calling many of his subordinates. Gradually things got worse and this time the
concerned colleague was directly affected as he faced abuse for not being able to complete a
given assignment in time. Things escalated after this as the concerned person was one of the best
performers in the team. The matter reached the HR and a complaint was raised by many team
members. The issue was sorted after a long session was held with all the senior managers, team
members and the concerned supervisor. Although for the time being the issue seemed to be
sorted, the supervisor resigned within a month stating his inability to coordinate with the
members.
