Introduction
BPM is a process for managing and improving the business process by using proper planning
and strategies. In this generation, many companies are not able to manage business processes for
which the concept of BPM can be used that have the potential to reduce the barriers and enhance
organizational performance. A maturity model is an approach that is used in the business process
management for enhancing the business process effectively [1]. This research focuses on the
contribution of business process management and identifies its impacts on organizational
performance. A journal paper will be selected for a better understanding about business process
management. This research will include the content of the paper, findings of the paper, issues
highlighted and research methodologies used by the researchers. The selected paper for this
study is highlighted below:
Article name: Maturity Models in Business Process Management
The intention of the article
The chosen article was provided by Maximilian and other researchers in the year 2015 and this
paper aims to demonstrate skills in the area of BPM and identify the maturity models used in the
BPM [2]. The researchers reported that maturity models mainly involve a sequence of levels that
form an anticipated, logical and desired path from the starting state of the business process.
Using the key aspects of BPM the companies can effectively handle the issues and improve the
effectiveness of the developed networks. The researchers also developed various hypotheses and
research questions based on BPM [3].
The major purpose of maturity models in business process management is to outline the states of
maturation paths that may help the companies for performing complex tasks. It is observed that a
maturity model assists an evocative drive if it may be applied for the as-is valuations. The
authors observed that the outline of overall design values for maturity frameworks involve three
nested sections of design principles [4]. These principles involve a basic concept, the principles
for a prescriptive purpose and the principles for a descriptive process for the business. The
researchers reviewed these principles effectively and also supported the arguments with the
evidence that enhanced the effectiveness of the article.

The conducted literature reviewed the business process management and identified the key
features of BPM in the relation of business communities [5]. The researchers referred to two
recent collections of business process management from the four samples that provided depth
information in the area of business process management. Moreover, the researchers included a
table that shows the lowest maturity and upmost maturity levels in the context of the business
process.
The researchers observe that using the characteristics of business process management the
companies can implement software projects and appropriately enhance the business processes
[6]. It is identified that there are major six models involved in the design principles, for example,
BPMMM, BPMM-OMG, PEMM, BPOMM, and BPMM-LEE. In which the researchers
compared these models with each other and shows the gathered data into a tabular form.
Research methods
This section of the research includes various techniques and methodologies in order to pool the
data in the right direction and reduce errors from the study. These methods include research
design, philosophy of the investigation, data gathering process and many more. It is significant to
receive effective information from the sources and enhance the quality of the investigation [7].
The key significance of this section is to enhance the skills in the context of business process
management and identify the key features of BPM in the companies. The selected methods may
help the authors for achieving the aims of the study and reduce the gaps in the previous studies.
Research design
In the context of research design, there are two methods involve, for example, qualitative and
quantitative designs. In which qualitative design provides the theoretical facts about research
concerns while quantitative design emphasis the arithmetical data composed from the survey and
interviews. In this paper, the researchers included only qualitative design as it is helpful for
developing the effective hypothesis and research questions related to the business process
management [8]. Therefore, using such kind of methodology the researchers were able to design
the effective structure of the research and included more than 10 BPM maturity models for better
understanding the business process management.

Research approach
It is mainly divided into two parts, for example, inductive and deductive where the inductive
approach provides depth examination about research but deductive help for developing an
effective hypothesis in the study. In this research, the authors used only an inductive approach as
it helped for completing the research in the desired time and provide effective points in the area
of business process management. Using such kind of approach the researchers developed and
implemented effective strategies and handle the gaps that happened in recent articles [9].
Data collection processes
There are two types of data used in the research, for example, primary and secondary where
primary data is obtained through surveys or interviews but secondary data is obtained by
conducting a literature search. In the chosen article the investigators used an only secondary type
of data due to the subjective nature of the investigation. Moreover, the secondary data based on
the BPM was obtained from numerous sources such as literature search, peer-reviewed papers,
case studies, previous observations and so on [10]. The authors also analyzed a sample of 10
BPM maturity models in order to enhance the reliability of the research.
Analyzing the gathered data
It is observed that for analyzing the collected data and facts two types of methods used in the
study including content analysis and statistical analysis. For this research paper, the researchers
used content analysis methodology as it is more effective and appropriate for finding the proper
results of the investigation [11]. In order to draw tables and figures, the researchers used MS-
Excel tools along with the SPSS tools by which the researchers represented the gathered data
into graphical forms. So, the adopted methods were effective and reliable for this research that
supported the researchers to achieve the goals of the investigation.
Findings/results of the paper
The evaluated maturity models effectively addressed the design principles and descriptive
purpose of use by which the companies can improve the business process. The researchers found
that the utilization of business process management may help companies for growing their
businesses and reducing the complexity from the systems [11]. The results of this paper stimulate
the future of business process management and also identify their significance in the business

communities. In this paper, the researchers also reaffirm the requirements for maturity models in
the area of business process management.
Issues highlighted
According to the writers, controlling and reducing problems from the business is a key issue
faced by the managers which also affects the organizational performance. Developing effective
maturity models in the BPM systems require more effort due to which the companies are not able
to handle business-related issues [12]. This research identified and evaluated the risk factors that
impact on the business process and proposed a maturity model for BPM that can be used to
handle such kinds of problems.
Conclusion of the paper
The researchers developed a systematic framework for identifying BPM maturity models and
analyzing the importance of BPM in business communities. The authors concluded that the
development of effective maturity models in BPM can help companies for growing business
processes effectively. Based on two collections of maturity frameworks the authors were capable
to determine a set of 10 maturity frameworks that specifically address business process
management. The presented outcomes are beset with several limitations that will be resolved in
future research. In this paper, the researchers evaluated the recent collections delivered by the
resources which are popular to the BPM domain. It is stated that the chosen paper is relevant to
the Unit as it provided information about business process management and helped the students
for improving their skills in business process management.
Conclusion
This research shows the importance of business process management and also evaluated maturity
models used in the BPM. It can be summarized that using an effective maturity model in the
BPM can help companies for solving problems and enhancing the business processes. The
selected paper is reliable in the context of BPM that also analyzed the findings of previous
studies and used effective methods while conducting the investigation. It is found that the
researchers did not explore the applications and key features of business process management
