Report
AI Summary
This report delves into the advantages and disadvantages of Business Process Modelling (BPM). It begins by defining BPM as a critical analytical representation of business processes, particularly useful in business process management. The report highlights BPM's role in cloud technology, emphasizing how improved process models can optimize cloud server performance. It also discusses the benefits, such as process consistency and the elimination of inefficiencies. However, the report also addresses the challenges, including the difficulty of understanding BPM at a beginner level. Key elements like process architecture, modeling conventions, and user collaboration are identified as crucial components. The report concludes with a discussion of the importance of understanding business requirements and identifying key modeling elements for successful implementation, supported by references to relevant academic sources.

2BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES OF BPM
Benefits and challenges of business process modelling in cloud:
The business process modelling or simply process modelling is basically
representation of the business processed in analytical way. This is basically the illustration of
the business processes critically which is used for business process management. The
different software which are used for process modelling generally shows the current process
system in the ‘as-is’ model and the improvements in the process as ‘to-be’ models such that
the business process system becomes more efficient than earlier (Giessmann & Legner,
2016). The different tools which are used for business process modelling are BPMN 2.0,
Universal process notation language, flowchart, Gantt charts and Petri-Nets.
As every modern processes of IT or technology industries are linked with cloud or a
virtual database of the company, improvements in the process will significantly change the
storage space, runtime of the could servers. Thus an improved process model of the business
has several benefits in cloud technology. Through the ‘to-be’ model the company can
thoroughly understand the working of the process and thus can predict the necessary of the
cloud servers and adjust the design or make restrictions according to that (Chang, Srirama &
Buyya, 2017). A consistency in the processes at a certain extent can be achieved by
appropriate business process model and thus the processes can be controlled by higher level.
Through proper structured business process model the different redundancies and the
inefficiencies in the existing system can be eliminated. The starting of the process and its
definite ending is represented by business process model which is mostly absent in large IT
systems (Aguero & Khodaei, 2018). Additionally, the process modelling enables the modeller
to group similar kinds of processes to work simultaneously and thus the person can predict
how the system is going to be operated. Analysing the current process sequence and its
efficiency measurement is the objective of the business process modelling and the predicted

simulation of the system through some improvements in the process for achieving better
results is also established thorough process modelling.
Although BPM technique is efficient for business process management and
improvement, it is very difficult to understand the technique for a business at a rookie level.
Hence, the main challenges in business process modelling is to understand the requirement of
the business and thus identifying the key elements of modelling. Some key elements of
business process modelling are
Process architecture: The initial challenge and probably the most difficult one as specified by
many process modellers is to understand the entire business architecture which consists of
either many value chains or just a single one.
Conventions of process modelling: Some specific conventions of the modelling which is
alternatively known as the process modelling excellence framework is needed to be followed
to create a simple, unified and easily understandable process model (Soffer et al. 2017).
Without following proper conventions can lead to design of complex process model in which
the exact objective of the system can be overlooked.
User collaboration with process: Until and unless business users’ collaboration with the
processes is achieved the objectives of the company can never be fulfilled. Thus process
modelling must be made in such a way that it enables the users to discuss, propose, evaluate
and contribute towards the improvement of business processes.
