of Business Process. The process of monitoring helps in analysing the performance of the
organisation and identification of the critical issues faced by the organisation and find methods to
improve them. “AN APPROACH BASED ON USER REQUIREMENT NOTATION
COMBINED WITH BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND WEB SERVICES” by Pengfei Chen is
reviewed and this report analyses the success of the Business Process Monitoring in an
organisation. The intention of the article has been discussed in the report as well [7].
The Goals of Business Process Modelling:
Business process management has improved the organisation infrastructure over the
decade. The BPM helps in setting up proper targets and alignment in the business organisation
such that they are capable of understanding the customer demands better and deliver in
accordance to that. The key objective of the research paper is understanding the need Goal
Oriented Monitoring System for improvement in the organisation [1]. The thesis discussed in the
article proposes User Requirement Notation approaches which establishes a proper link between
the business goals and business processes with combination of the Business Intelligence tools.
This helps in building up an automated and interactive system where all the people involved in
the business processes can develop an iterative management cycle for the business process. The
targeted approach is implementation of User Requirement Notations in the system with the help
of Use case Maps and Goal-oriented requirement languages along with the KPI modelling.

Use case maps or UCM:
The Use Case Maps are scenario notation of the functional requirement of the
description. It also consists of the higher level designing scenarios. The starting and the end point
of the system can be obtained from the UCM. The elements of the UCM have specific roles to
play in the system and that can be understood from the map itself. With the help of the UCM
plug-ins we can describe the business process in any level of the organisation.
Goal oriented requirement language:
The article mainly lays focus on the Goal oriented requirement language. The alternative
means for achieving certain business goals can be obtained by the use of this language. The
primary elements of the Goal Oriented Requirement Languages are Soft goals, actors, Belief,
goals, task, resources and actor boundaries [3]. The notation used in the GRL can be classifies
into five groups and they are GRL elements, satisfaction, composition of links and their types,
and lastly the contribution types.
Business Intelligence:
Business intelligence process is very important for an organisation as it helps in the easy
access of the business data by delivering a solution. Application and data bases are created for
the benefits of the organisation. With the technological advancements in the organisations the
business have become more process oriented. To meet up with the competitive environment of
the business markets, the data is synchronized from the suppliers to the customers[8]. Hence,
business intelligence system is needed to perform not only fast work, but also smart work. To

make use of the key performance indicators in the business [5]. The business intelligence acts as
a link between the business performance and operational data of the system.
Link between UCM and GRL:
The main purpose of the User Requirement Notation is to provide a clear description of
the requirements before designing any business procedure. With the combination of the GRL and
UCM in the User Requirement Notation can give a better scenario for understanding the actual
need of the User. It makes the presentation of the requirement more specified. The goals of the
business process can be further modified with the help of this.
Methodologies used in Business Process management:
The management of the huge organisational diverse processes linking the automated
systems with the human is known as the business process management. The life cycling of the
business process management consists of modelling, execution, monitoring and optimization.
The methodologies used in the BPM are mentioned below [9].
i. Total Quality management: This methodologies makes use of the continuous
improvement in the system. This helps in improvement of the customer
satisfaction. Total means everyone involved in the organisation; Quality is
improvement and management is systematic steps taken towards managing the
business. The life cycle of the TQM is Act, Plan, Check and Do. This is also
known as the Shewhart-cycle.

ii. Six sigma: Six sigma determines improvement in the system with elimination of
the defects identified in the process. This methodology has been widely accepted
and adopted by the business for the purpose of improvement.
iii. Re-engineering of Business process: The process of re-engineering is also used in
the organisation to improve the performance, effectiveness and the effectiveness
of the system [4].
These are the methodologies applied in the system and almost have a
similar goal; that is improvement of the business and the business organisation.

KPI model integration with URN:
There are two elements of the KPI, they are Key Performance Indicators, and KPI
information elements [2]. The gaps between the Goal Model and the Process model are filled by
the KPI model. KPIs with UCM and GRL when linked together for the evaluation of the
performance in the process of the business, which in turns helps in achieving the business goals.
Implementing Goal Oriented Business Process Monitoring:
Goal Oriented Business Process Monitoring helps in guiding the business in a direction in
which the performance can be enhanced. There are three most important components of the
monitoring process and they are business information provider, business process monitoring tool
and monitoring the services [6]. All these components works in combination to build the data
records for an organisation and generates reports for the key performance indicators. This helps
in understanding the key issues in a business and fixating them becomes easier.

process monitoring is better understanding of the requirement of the customer which ultimately
leads to the satisfaction of the customers [10].
The only constraint of the BP Modelling is if not implemented properly it is huge
wastage of time and money. This affects the customers as well as the company. If the workers
are not acquainted with the process, the chances of failure of the BPM implementation increases
resulting in loss for the organisation.
