Introduction
1.1 Problem statement
The use of cell phones is a common thing in today`s world. The use of the cell phones
have made the work easier and smooth in today`s world but in spite of that it there is a
serious issue related to this. The issue is the misuse of the cell phone which has caused a
major to threat.
1.2 Type of research
To evaluate the problem the type of research that has been adopted is the method of
survey, the method of taking live interviews which includes the questionnaires and the online
data collection method (Cheng 2015).
1.3 Significance
The significance of the research is to analyze the pitfalls related to the use of the cell
phones and the impact of the advantages as well as the disadvantages of the same (Piette, et
al. 2015).
1.4 research objectives
The objective of the research is to evaluate the ways the human beings are obsessed
with the cell phones and the way they are getting detached with their closer ones which
affects the social activities (Piette, et al. 2015).
1.5 research questions
The research questions include the findings of whether the people are aware of the
disadvantages and loopholes of using cell phones. The further objective is to find out whether
the cell phone acts as a replacement of a person. The objective includes whether the social
media is powerful enough to replace the social gatherings (Belzer, et al. 2015).

2. Literature review
2.1 The use of cell phones
The use of the cell phone has become a common procedure in today`s world. It is
because of cell phones that the communication has become easier. People are able to
communicate with the others. The cell phones have enabled the use of internet through which
the technology has taken a different angle all together. The cell phones have made it possible
for the people to reach to the outside world (Cheng 2015).
E-mails, photo and video can be sent by using cell phone and one can also listen to
music and use the GPS while being on the road. It has emerged to become an important tool
of communication that is used by people so that they can keep in touch with each other.
Nowadays, there are phones that can comfortably fit in the pocket of the user and with the
help of a rechargeable battery can survive for a long time. The designs of cell phones are
constantly changing so that the needs of new users are incorporated into the design
(Preechaburana, Suska and Filippini 2014). Some of the new functions are inclusive of
memoray card, camera and USB port. They also have the facility of wireless capability by the
usage of infrared or other wireless protocol. Applications that the cell phone user can make
use of are that of word processing, mobile banking to that of video-streaming and games
(Lepp, Barkley and Karpinski 2014)s. They can also surf the web and use the facility of
alarms. Some of the manufacturers who make mobile phone are that of Nokia, Motorola and
Sony Ericsson. The I-phone app store helps the users in downloading a large number of third
party apps. Phones can provide entertainment when someone is waiting for an appointment or
is in a bus trip. Cell phones also have the facility of clock that one can make use of in order to
find out the time.

2.2 The pros and cones of using the cell phone
The use of cell phone has a lot of pros and cones. The use of cell phone is used in a
wrong way. It is being misused. The misuse of the cell phones contains different cyber
crimes. Apart from the benefits it carries it has lots of threats. Though it helps the people to
communicate with each other in a faster way it divides the attention of the people as they get
too much engaged in their cell phones. Apart from this many accidents occur due to the over
use of the cell phones. The rays that are emitted from the cell phones are highly harmful. In
spite of having lot of advantages there is lot of disadvantages that the cell phone has (Rebold,
et al. 2015). Mobile phones are extremely convenient and one can call at any time and at any
place by taking recourse to it. It can also be made use of as a safety precaution and one can
take its help when one is lost or has to deal with bad weather. One can call up their family in
case of an emergency. It helps people to avoid the feeling of loneliness and people can easily
connect over Facebook or Watsapp. People can take recourse to mobile phones to play games
and involving in games like Sudoko can help people to increase their intelligent quotient.
People can search for material that they donot know about with the help of mobile phone
(Duggan and Rainie 2013).
However, it also has its own share of disadvantages. When cell phone is used while
driving it may cause accidents. It adversely affects the concentration of drivers thus leading
to accidents. Drivers cannot control the brake thus leading to danger for people walking on
the road. If a driver uses cell phones while driving then the other drivers indirectly gets angru
as the person who is taking do not adhere to the rules of the road (Duggan and Rainie 2013).
It was found that smart phones emitted electromagnetic waves and numerous studies
has been carried out in recent decades in order to find out the disadvantages of the effect of
cell phones on our health. There was a preconceived notion that the ill-effects of cell phones
were mainly felt by the broadcast along with that of the radio stations. Carina Storrs in her

famous article regarding whether the cell phone radiation increased the risk of cancer in rats
has found out that a large amount of exposure to that of radiation being emitted from cell
phone may result in brain tumour in the male rat. The World Health Organization has said
that electromagnetic fiels are carcinogenic for the human race and wireless use of phone thus
leads to disastrous consequences for the health of humans. In the May of 2011, 31 scientists
coming from 14 different countries of France has assessed the carcinogenic hazard that may
result from the use of electromagnetic fields that are emitted from the cell phones (Jinchun
and Liang 2016). They came out with the conclusion that the evidences are strong enough to
support the view that cell phone can cause cancer. Exercises and stretching is advocated by
the the doctors to escape from the negative impact of using the cell phone. Pain is caused in
right shoulder along with that of pain in right thumb due to the effect of cell phone (Lepp,
Barkley and Karpinski 2015).
Research carried out by Rajan Balakrishnan has found out that musculoskeletal
disorder may be caused by the prolonged usage of cell phone. The matter is really serious and
it is found that more and more people are falling prey to the ill-effects of cell phones. The
problems are increasing and they are increasing in frequency and people of the young
generation are suffering from “texter-thumb” which is the direct outcome of sending a large
number of text messages. Texter-neck is caused due to the neck pain that results from poor
posture while using the cell phone for a large amount of time (Lepp, Barkley and Karpinski
2015).
The drivers are also badly affected due to the usage of cell phones. A person who is
driving a car and using the cell phone at the same time has high chances of getting into an
accident and thus damage his own health or those of the pedestrians (Li, Lepp and Barkley
2015). National Safety Council has pointed out that around 27 percent of car crash is caused
by the use of cell phone and around 6 % of the crashes were related to texting while driving.

Talking or texting while being on the road takes the mind of the drivers away from the
driving thus proving to be catastrophic for the safety of the humans. People have a tendency
to imitate the actions of other people. Centre of Disease Control and Prevention has found out
that driving in a distracted manner kills around nine people and injures hundreds of people on
the regular basis (Jinchun and Liang 2016). Total economic cost that results out of using
motor vehicle related accident is around $277 billion. Talking and driving can prove to be
more disastrous as compared to texting while driving. In case of both these tasks, the
performance of the driver will be affected badly (Wang et al. 2014).
There are primarily two factors that lead to unsafe driving: one is handling the cell
phone and the other one relates to the conversation that is introduced in the environment.
Conversation takes up a large part of time of the drivers along with that of attention
(Calabrese, Ferrari and Blondel 2015). Simulated driving test has led to the conclusion that
drivers who talked while driving were distracted to a large extent and they did not notice the
traffic signals. The drivers who got emotionally engaged within the conversation became less
attentive to the safety signals that resulted into accident (Metcalf 2017).
A hand-held device has opportunities for computing capability like that of internet
communication along with other features. The number of people who use the cell phone is
increasing at a rapid pace. It has been found that there is a co-relation between physical
health and that of cell phone usage. Headache and hand tremor may be the acute resultant of
using the cell phones. Berolo in his research has said that the hand-held users of cell phone
often complain about pain the upper portion of the human body like in back or in the neck
portion. Long-term use, on the other hand, leads to tension in the tendons and muscles. Finger
discomfort is also caused by the use of cell phone. It can also give rise to Visual Display
Terminal syndrome (O'hayre et al. 2016).

3. Research design and method
3.1 populations
To conduct the research the researchers has taken a number specific number of
population as their target for evaluating the ways of the pros and cones of using cell phone.
The target population includes the youth between the age group of 15 to 30 years (Weller, et
al. 2013).
3.2 sampling approach and sample size
The survey has been conducted through the sample of field survey, interviews,
questionnaires and online data collection. The size of the research includes fifty people
(Weller, et al. 2013).
3.3 survey design
The survey has been done online as well offline. The survey has been conducted in
the markets and in different college campuses. The live interviews are conducted and certain
questionnaires were filled up which included a sheet of questions in which the name of the
person and the age of the person is included. The survey design included the collection of the
data through the research from the journals and articles from different sources (Deville, et al.
2014.).
3.4 mode of data collection
The data collection method includes the jotting down the results of the survey done. it
includes the collection of the facts and figures (Swendeman, et al. 2015).

3.5 analytic methods
This includes the maintenance of an excel sheet which includes the details of the
researches done of the opinion of people regarding the use of cell phones and the threats
related to it and comparing the different opinions (Bates, et al. 2014).
4. Type of contribution
The research would help in understanding the reaction of the people regarding the
understanding of the backdrops of using the cell phone. It helped in avoiding the worst sides
of using it and taking preventive measures against it ( Ad. Shoeb 2015).
5. Limitations and conclusion
The limitations of the research method are that it is not always feasible for the
researchers to conduct the researches as the targeted people on whom the research will be
conducted are not always available. Therefore this can be concluded that by doing a detailed
research it has been found that in spite of the benefits the disadvantages of using cell phone is
more. The use of cell phone might make system easier but it also pose a serious threat to the
lives of the people who are using it.
