DATA COLLECTION 2
Primary data collection Methods
Data collection denotes to the collection of a set of observation about the variables, and it is the
point at which study methods starts. Data is categorized into two, primary and secondary data.
Primary data can be referred to as that information that is collected from first-hand sources such
as survey, interview, and questionnaire. However the secondary data is that data which is
received from the secondary sources such as materials that are printed or published.in these
research, only primary data collection method will be used to gather information about the topic
under study.
Qualitative Research
This is a research type of social science that gathers the information and work with the numerical
data which seek to infer the significance of this information which aids a person in the
understanding of the social life through targeted population study (Crossman, 2015). In this
research, qualitative research method will be used because, it focuses on the interaction of the
micro level that composes everyday life. Qualitative study comprises of the following methods,
immersion and observation, interviews, surveys, and oral history.
Qualitative research serves the following purpose of the study. First, it is designed so that it can
inform the action or the outcomes which are measured by the quantitative analysis. Therefore
qualitative research focuses on the investigation of the meaning, interpretation, relation to social
life and processes. This research method focuses on the production of data that is descriptive
which the researcher has to interpret through the use of the systematic and rigorous transcribing
methods and trend analysis. Lastly, this type of research lends itself well to the creation of the
theories that are new through the use of the inductive process, which can be tested with further
research (Crossman, 2015).

DATA COLLECTION 3
Observation method
Observation is a primary data collection method in which the investigator collects data based on
their observation from a personal point of view (Mba-lectures.com, 2016).In the case of the
research under study, the researcher want to gather information about the high employee
turnover rate in the aviation industry. For this purpose, the researcher has to interact with the
employee to observe their reasons on why there is the high turnover rate. The researcher has to
be very keen and observant on the various segment of the aviation industry, and how they carry
out their operation (Mantra, 2017). The observer has to do this without the knowledge of anyone
as this might jeopardize the research, suppose the sample under study are aware that they are
being studied.
Personal interview
The interview can be carried out in any of these three forms, structured, unstructured and semi-
structured (Silverman,2009). Structured interviews are administered verbally in questionnaire
form, whereby a list of the predetermined question is asked, with minimal variation and are
closed-ended hence does not permit additional explanation. However they are stress-free to
manage.
On the other hand, the unstructured interview is carried out with very little organization or no
organization at all. They do start with an opening question then the subsequent issues will
depend on the response given by the interviewer. The semi-structured interview has various keys
questions which help in defining the area to be explored and allow the interviewer to ask more
question suppose they require elaboration on a particular idea. This research will use the
structured interview so that to make it easy in data analysis due to the time limit.
Survey
Questionnaire method is convenient method of data collection if the information is to be gathered
from diverse population. It comprises of a set of question which is related to the research
problem. This questionnaire is typically printed set of questions, open-ended or closed-ended,
whereby the respondent is required to give feedback based on their experience and knowledge on
the topic under study (Britten, 2013). Based on the subject under research, the researcher will

give out a questionnaire on a various medium such as internet, mail and hand delivery so that the
data collected can be from multiple employees and management in the aviation industry.

Research limitation
Research limitation is the influences that cannot be controlled by the researcher. They are the
conditions and shortcomings or the power that cannot be controlled by the researcher. Hence it
restricts the conclusion and methodology to be used. In this research, no limitation can hinder
any process of the study.
