INTRODUCTION
Sustainability refers to the ability for maintaining the natural resources and avoiding the
depletion of natural resources for managing the ecological balance. Every business organisation
needs to focus on managing its business operations and activities in such a way that it does not
lead to harm the natural resources or ecological balance. Allerton High School is a
comprehensive community school which was established in the year 1939. Motto of this
educational establishment is to enable young people for effectively achieving the success. The
present report explains about the understanding of diversity and also recognises the benefits of
diverse workforce. The report further explains about ways for maintaining security,
confidentiality and managing risk in business environment.
MAIN BODY
TASK 1
Benefits of keeping waste to minimum
Allerton High School aims at reducing waste as it allows Accounts department to operate
on low cost and also helps in preserving the natural environment. School can save money by
having more efficient use of materials and cut the cost of waste disposal. Reducing the waste
also helps in improving the reputation and image of Allerton High School in the minds of
students, their parents and overall community (Brimhall and Mor Barak, 2018).
Procedures for recycling, disposing of waste and maintaining equipment
Allerton High School can focus on saving paper and cardboards as this accounts for
immense amount of total waste. School can have a waste audit so that it can help in identifying
what can be recycled and also helps in suggesting more efficient and effective waste
management process. Keeping recycling process simple and using the reusable stuff is included
in the procedures for recycling, disposing waste and maintaining the equipments (Recycling and
Waste Reduction in the Workplace, 2013). The school can encourage staff and students to have
packed lunches and for adopting digital technology. School also needs to appoint a leader for
recycling process and also donate funds for charity. The waste management also includes step of
using air-dryers instead of paper towels and also promoting the recycling.

Suggesting ways for reducing waste
Allerton High School should make use of reusable lunch bags and reusable containers in
order to minimise the waste. Accounts department of school needs to make more use of digital
technology so that it can help in reducing the use of papers and pens. School can also make use
of materials that are 100% recyclable or reusable. School should also implement the compost in
its premises (Berman, 2018).

Diversity refers to different peoples from different backgrounds. In business context, it
means that Allerton High School requires its teaching workforce department to be diverse
workforce that have wide range of personal behaviours and attitudes (Byrdand and Scott, 2018).
Benefits of having diverse workforce
The diverse teaching staff of Allerton High School brings many benefits such as wide
range of perspectives are there which leads to increase creativity and improves the performance
level of students. The diverse workforce of school helps in guiding students to respect diversity
instead of being judgemental on people's race, caste, colour or caste. Diverse workforce have
good language skills and they can build community relations effectively.

Retail companies may create outside the box opportunities to people for promoting
diversity in the workplace. Whereas, hospitality sector may keep focus on the knowledge and
talent of persons for promoting diversity (Gerba, 2019). Travel and tourism sector aims at
promoting diversity through having a leader that pushes for greater diversity within the
workplace.

Allerton High School can promote diversity through acknowledging the differences and
also offers implicit bias training programs. This training programs help in creating a place for

The legal and organisational guidelines ensures that discrimination does not happen at
workplace and it provides equal opportunities to everyone. The main legal and regulatory

The security and confidentiality of information within the workplace is important as its
helps in building trust and also maintaining it effectively (Kliem and Ludin, 2019). It also
ensures that honest and open communication takes place between clients, organisation,
customers and employees. It also helps in increasing the reputation of the company in the minds
of employees, customers and clients.
Security of property and information
Allerton High School maintains security of property and information by effectively
following the organisational policies and procedures and also various legal requirements. The
organisational procedures and policies describes that important documents are to be stored in
locked file cabinets and rooms that are accessible only for those who have the authority. The
electronic informations are protected through firewall, password and encryptions.

Failure to maintain security and confidentiality may lead to loss of clients or business or
it may also be misused for committing illegal activities. Its failure may also lead to theft of data,
leakage of essential information and large financial loss. The employees or clients may also lead
to filing of lawsuit against organisation for breach of security and confidentiality.

Identifying a risk within workplace
Allerton High School aims at effectively identifying, monitoring and reducing the risk at
workplace so that it can manage the health and safety of its employees and students (Nicholls,
2018). It identifies the risk by carrying out the risk assessment at workplace and also determines
how employees and students might be at risk by effectively evaluating the risks.
Sources of the risk
The sources of risk at workplace may be classified as physical, ergonomic, chemical and
biological factors. The hazards or risk arise may arise at workplace due to the physical
environment of work, materials, equipments and various substances that are used at workplace.
Different work task or activities and how one performs them may lead to create risk. Work
management and design may also be stated as one of the source of risk (Shore, Cleveland and
Sanchez, 2018).
Impact and likelihood of risk
The risk at workplace can directly or indirect impacts the business organisation. Risk
assessment helps in calculating the magnitude of consequences i.e. level of impact and also the
likelihood i.e. levels of probability. The total amount of risk exposure refers to the probability of
an event occurring is multiplied by its potential impact.
Ways for minimising impacts and likelihood of risk
Organisation can minimise the impacts and likelihood of risk by developing a strong plan
and procedure, performing various quality control tests and effectively managing the business
