INTRODUCTION
There are different types of business firms operating in the business environment
which have different purpose, scope and legal structure. In order to understand the business
environment it is important to gain an understanding about different sectors. The present
report provides information about business firms from private, public and voluntary sector.
Vodafone is UK based Telecommunication Company selected for the private sector, Bank of
England is the public sector organization selected for this report. British heart foundation is
charity organization operating in voluntary sector which is selected for this report. This report
explains size, scope, mission, vision, mission, business objectives, organizational structure,
legal structure, stakeholder information products and services offered of business firm from
each sector. Organizational functions in Vodafone and their interrelation is explained in this
report. Benefits and drawbacks of interrelationships between organizational functions and
their impact on organizational structure is provided in this report. Analysis of complexities in
business structures and interrelationship of organizational functions is conducted in this
report.

Vodafone
Company Overview: Vodafone is a British multinational Telecommunications
company headquartered in Berkshire, England (About Vodafone Group, 2021). The company
was founded in the year 1991 and has gained success in domestic as well as international
markets. Vodafone is a part of FTSE 100 index.
Size: The size of Vodafone is huge as the company has employed 93,000 employees
all over the globe so that consumers gain best telecommunication services.
Scope: Vodafone has high scope as the company offers a wide range of
telecommunications services in more than 21 international markets.
Legal structure: The legal structure followed by private sector organization is
provided below:
Sole Proprietorship: Business firms which follow this type of organizational
structure are owned and controlled by an individual and there is no legal distinction
between the owner and the business entity.
Corporation: A corporation has legal existence which is separate from it’s owners. A
corporation can be taxed, earn profits and can be held legally liable.
Partnership: This legal structure is formed when to or more people agree to oversee
business activities and share profits and liabilities. Partnerships retain full and shared
liability among owners. The personal assets of partners can be used to fulfill debts of
the partnership.
Vodafone follows the legal structure of corporation
Services offered: Vodafone offers wide range of telecommunications services
including fixed line telephone, broadband, internet of thongs and many others (What we do,
2021).

Mission: The mission of the company is “to be a firm that consumers opt for and
trust”.
Business objectives: Primary business objective of Vodafone is to maximize
profitability.
Organizational structure: Vodafone follows the matrix organizational structure. The
organizational structure of Vodafone is provided below:
Stakeholder: Employees, shareholders and consumers are the main stakeholders of
the company.

Bank of England
Company Overview: Bank of England is the central Bank of UK and is owned and
controlled by the British government. The Bank was established in the year 1694 and is
headquartered Threadneedle Street, London, England, United Kingdom (About us, 2021).
Size: The size of this firm is huge as it employs more than 4000 employees.
Scope: Bank of England has large scope as it is tasked with maintaining financial
stability in UK by working with other financial and government institutions.
Legal structure: The legal structure followed by public firms is provided below:
Central government: Public firms following this legal structure are owned and
controlled by the central government (Cheffins, 2018).
State government: Under this legal structure firms are controlled by state
government authorities and work inn the geographical borders of particular state.
Local government authorities: Business firms which come und eths structure are
owned and controlled by local government authorities.

British heart Foundation
Company Overview: BHF is charity organization in UK which funds cardiovascular
research, education and care. The company was established in 1961 by group of medical
professionals (About the British Heart Foundation, 2021).

with the firm.
Scope: HBF ha large scope because it aims to eliminate threat from cardiovascular
diseases.
Legal structure: The legal structure of Voluntary sector firms is explained below:
Trust; This type of voluntary firm includes three parties. Trustees which nominally
become the owner of trust property, donors who donate money or property and
beneficiaries which benefit from the trust (Booth, 2018). Trustees are not protected
from personal liability and usually there is no membership structure in such firms.
Unincorporated association: The legal structure followed by this type of voluntary
firm is of small groups with low income and short term goals which does not
employee staff or purchase property. This type of company does not have separate
legal existence and owners have to hold contracts on behalf of the company.
Company limited by guarantee: It is an incorporated organization and has separate
legal existence from it’s owners.
BHF follows the legal structure of a trust.
Services offered: BHF invests in education, health care, research and awareness
campaigns aimed to prevent heart disease.
Vision: The vision of the company is “to build a world where people do not die
prematurely of heart disease”.
Mission: The vision of BFH is “to end heartbreak from heart and circulatory disease”.
Business objectives: The business objectives of BHF is to understand daily needs of
heart disease patient, equip careers to maximize patient health and maximize heart attack
survival by increasing resuscitation capacity.
Organizational structure: BFH has adopted flat organizational structure in which
there is one director and manager between the staff.

Stakeholder: The main stakeholders of BFH are healthcare professionals working for
the trust, donors of the trust and heart patients who are beneficiaries of BFH.
Organizational functions of Vodafone and their interrelationship
Vodafone is multinational company and various organizational functions contribute to
smooth functioning of such large business firm. The organizational functions of Vodafone are
provided below:
Marketing function: This organizational function helps Vodafone identify and source
suitable services for their target consumer base. Vodafone uses this organizational
function to promote services and create profitable brand image in various
international markets (Deepak and Jeyakumar, 2019)
Finance function: This function helps the British telecommunication company plan
and control financial resources of the firm effectively. Vodafone is able to acquire and
optimally utilize monetary funds to complete daily business activities.
Human Resource function: This function of Vodafone is concerned with effective
management of workforce so that each staff member performs effectively and
contributes to the growth and progress of the firm.
R&D function: This function helps Vodafone build new services and enhance their
offerings.
Consumer Service function: Being in the telecommunication industry the consumer

Marketing and Finance function; The finance function at Vodafone acquires funds
for completion of promotional activities conducted by marketing function. The marketing
function creates a brand image so that Vodafone can easily acquire funds from investors.
Human Resource and R&D function: Human resource function provide training to
increase motivation of staff at R&D department at Vodafone finds progress opportunities for
the company.
Consumer service and marketing function: The consumer service function
promotes suitable offers to consumers and provides marketing function with important
consumer information to build successful marketing campaigns.
Benefit and drawback of interrelationship between organizational
functions and their impact on organizational structure
The main benefits of interrelationship between various business functions for
Vodafone is that these functions collaborate with each other for the success of the company.
The main drawback is the each function ids dependent on other function which delays daily
activities even if one of the function slows down.
Vodafone follows matric structure and the impact of interrelationship between
business function is that each department is dependent on other for completing daily tasks. In
addition to this employees of particular business function have to report to more than one
supervisor due to interrelationship which is in line with the matrix structure of Vodafone.

From the above report it is concluded that private, public and voluntary sector firms
have different size, scope and follow different legal structures. In addition to this the
organizational structure adopted by corporates from different sectors differs. Business firms
have different functions which are interrelated to each other. The interrelationship between
various functions of an organization has various benefits and drawbacks. This
interrelationship affects the organizational structure adopted by the company. Business firms
need to understand drawbacks and benefits in order to gain favorable outcome from each
function.
