INTRODUCTION
This present report is based on two news articles where one writer is discussing the
problems which he has seen in Beirut, Lesbos and Calais. The first article emphasized on the
problems which migrant faces in the refugee camp and they are not getting any help from the
France or British government. On the contrary side, the second article focuses on the
development which has taken place in the Calais 'jungle' migrant camp which has now become a
mini city as it has come up facilities like restaurants, theaters, free Wi-Fi, books shops etc.
COMPARING THE TWO ARTICLES AND DISCRIBING THE
APPROACHES TAKEN BY WRITER'S
This assessment has been done to find different approaches taken by the writers in
describing the situation which exists in the refugee camp at Calais. In the first article, the writer
is focusing on problems which refugee faces in the jungle. Further, no relative measure is taken
either by the French or British government to solve this situation (Bailey, J. and Mitchell, 2006).
Writer also emphasizing on that no protection is given to children along with facilities of food
and health. Writer also gave his views on condition of Dunkirk and said that the conditions there
are much more violent than that of Calais. There is no proper shelter for refugees and they even
do not have proper sanitation facilities as well.
Moreover, British government is not taking any action because they are saying that it is
the French country problem and their intervention in this scenario will the make situation worse
ever.

Further, he also gave his view on the survival of the refugees where crises are much
closer to the shores. These people are suffering from cold and various diseases, exploitation and
sexual violence, wars and disputes, etc. At last, the writer has shown his feelings and gratitude
towards the problems and wants that British-French government should join hands together to
solve this precise problem which is affecting life of the refugees (White, 2015).
In the second article, writer has talked about Calais 'Jungle' camp which has now grown
into the self-built mini city. He also said that there are many shops which have developed in the
recent past along with the information center which generally offers advice to the refugees
regarding how they can get asylum in the Britain. Further, writer also stated that despite of
having so much development; migrants still intended to start their new life in Britain. Writer
stated that these all developments are taken by refugee migrants of their own with best of their
efforts and dedications (Weaver, 2011). They have developed a small church and named as St
Michael's Church which is decorated with excellent paintings of angels.

Further, writer also gave his point of view on the initiatives taken by the charity
organizations as they always tried to help these refugees by giving them food, medicines,
clothes, woods (during winters) and different other things. Apart from it, there also exists food
store from where these refugees can purchase the things as per their needs and demands (Cooper,
2016).
By comparing the two scenarios, it has been found that in the first article the author has
focused on the problems which refugees are facing in their jungle camps and also contrasted
their conditions that how they are surviving. But in the second article, writer has argued that
refugees has made this jungle into a mini city in which there are many different shops,
restaurants along with free Wi-Fi access. The style of writing in the first article was quite
formal and writer has emphasized on the problems along with the consequences which happened
with the British and French government (Fleckenstein and Seeleib-Kaiser, 2011). On the
contrary, in the second article, writer was informal and was freely taking about the development
which has taken place and is now cherishing life of refugees in the camp.
Moreover, it has been found that the second article has given more balanced view of the
Calais jungle situation because the writer has talked about the problems along with the

development programs as well. Further, the pictures and images so used have also given a clear
view of the situation which is existing there in.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is inferred that the writers in the two articles has talked about the
problems which exists in the refugee camp in countries like Calais, Lebanon and Beirut. Further,
writer has also given the idea relating to the development which is taking place in these slums
and jungle areas.
