Business Strategy 1
1. Business strategies
Before initiating the learning considering the business strategy, I did not know if I will be able to
learn and apply the theories in the particle life. However as I begin to learn the concept and
theories, I was able to understand the relevance for the same. The business strategy is the
company’s strategies that are framed at business level that is done by top level managers. The
key theories that I have learn included product portfolio strategy and Michael porter’s business
strategy. These were the two most important theories that I learned. Michael porter’s business
strategy reflects four strategies that a company may select as per the suitability and this may
depend on the external and internal environment of the company. This includes differentiation,
cost leadership, cost focus, and differentiation focus strategy (Betton, 2017). The other theory
that is product portfolio strategies reflect four portfolios that are specific to the particular
business goals, the reason being each product offer different functions. The products category
includes stars, cash cows, question mark, and dogs depend on the competitive advantage and
competitive scope of the company. The theories among the two, I have applied the Michael
porter’s business strategies, for application of the strategy the price and quality constraints was
considered. The company products included biscuits for which the quality of the goods was best,
however the prices offered to the customer was lower than that of the competitors as the selected
business strategy was cost leadership strategy. However the BCG matrix through the product
portfolio strategies was learned; however it was not applied by me at the workstation. I would
like to apply this strategy in near future and learn the key application of the theory. Moreover
other strategies would also be learned in the future was analyzed after experiencing this theory

learning and application like SWOT analysis as this may be implied through the experience
while analyzing the internal environment of the company (Bruns, 2013).
2. Effective strategic leader
The key learning objective through the experience was to be an effective strategic leader. I have
been leader in a company as a marketing project leader. Being a leader is not an easy task; this
may require applying various theories and strategies in order to get best performance. There are
various responsible that I have to accomplish while working a leader of a team. This impacted
various mistakes like lack of new idea generation in order to accomplish marketing activities for
new product in the market. However there could be various areas that can be improved like time
management activities, innovation culture, open information, and transformational leadership
style (Anderson, 2010). One of the areas that I would like to improve in near future would be
related to the open and innovation culture to be provided to the team members. The reason being
one of the negative results from the experience included lack of innovation through the
marketing strategy and new product launch. This will include providing open environment for
the employees to comfortably share the new idea and though to their leaders and the idea can be
used for effective use inn marketing project. Through this, I would like to apply the
transformational leadership style for the next time in case the same situation is being faced
(Antonakis et al., 2009). The reason being the key advantages through this leadership style
would be open to change and innovation, which will be suitable for the past experience as this
may have lead to better ideas from employees, and the employees would have also be motivated
to perform better as the ideas would be from them and this will make them feel important in the
team that their point is important for the team. Through improvement in this area I would also
