Business Writing Principles
The videos by Judy Steiner-Williams and Chris Nodder, both exhibit the correct way of
business writing, which will help in appropriately attracting the targeted audience. Both these
authors have showcased various methods and concepts that should be considered in the
formulation of the message for the targeted audience. The main focus of Judy Steiner-Williams
is on the effectiveness of the message and the crucial elements associated with it. On the other
hand, the main focus of Chris Nodder is on online writing. Now, the concept that resonated with
me from both these videos is of “concise and complete message”.
A business message needs to be concise, be it for the online audience or the traditional
audience. A concise message has bigger credibility than a lengthy message (Ruane & Chappell,
2017). With a message being concise, the main focus of a person is on informing the audience
about the various features about the product and service effectively and crisply, which is built
around the targeted audience’s needs, interests, behaviors, attitudes, and in some cases culture
too. Therefore, the element of concise justifies the statement that “less is more” (Hollis-Turner &
Scholtz, 2010). Along with a message being concise the other aspect, which is very important in
all the business messages is the aspect of being complete. There is nothing worse than offering
the targeted audience with incomplete information. In addition to this, it should be noted that a
message should be concise and complete (Steiner-Williams, 2014). It is paramount to offer the
audience with all the necessary details that highlight all the benefits they will attain from
selecting your product or service.
I have experience with blog writing. I have written a few blogs about various products
and services, which have impressed me. Along with this, I have also conducted blog writing for
writing about some personal experiences with some brands and products. In my opinion, blog

writing helps in differentiating between the products, especially in terms of, what was promised
and what is delivered. In addition to this, this process of blog writing helped me in understanding
the importance of credible information, when targeting the audience. For instance, I bought this
hair removal machine from a prominent brand, which made many claims about being a long-
lasting and pain-free experience, but in reality, the machine died out just after a couple of uses
and the experience was not at all pain-free. Therefore, all the information stated by the
organization on the website was untruthful, just for exploiting the customers. It is due to this
experience with this organization that I will never buy its products and will also, not trust any of
the information they will exhibit on its website or another advertising medium, as it is just for
exploiting the customers.
No, I do not disagree with anything in the course, especially so far, with my current experience. I
agree with all the concepts and principles that I have studied in this course. In addition to this,
the concepts have been extremely helpful in understanding the difference between credible
information and incredible information (Nodder, 2014).
