Introduction to event
Calgary Stampede is an annual rodeo exhibition and festival which is held in Calgary,
Alberta, Canada. It stretches over ten-days and features rodeos, parade, stage shows, concerts,
agricultural competitions and other events (Bichel, 2016).
Social Responsibility
Health and safety – It is a mass gathering of thousands of people. Therefore, organisers of
Calgary stampede takes proactive measures to not only take care of health and safety of staff and
visitors but also of the participating animals.
Accessibility for people with special needs – It is open to all event and measures have been taken
to make it accessible for people with special needs. However, there is still scope of improvement
like safe passages for them in case of any emergency (Rosenthal and Schäfer, 2016).
Discrimination and fairness – It works with small size of permanent staff and large volunteers.
Whole hiring and employment duration is fair and strict measures are observed to eliminate
chances of discrimination. In case of any such reported incident, it is dealt according to related
guidelines developed by company in accordance with company values and legislative
compliance.
Harassment – Organisers have developed clear code of conducts that they expect from their
employees, participants and visitors. No incident of mistreatment of any nature is tolerated.
However, this applies to only case of reported incident. It is required to ensure that no such
incident occurs or at least go unreported.
Inclusivity and diversity – It is open for all event and does not make discriminations of any kind
on the basis of gender, race, etc. However, it is a global event and is good platform to take
proactive approach to promote causes like inclusivity of LGBTQ+ community and indigeneous or
aboriginal people.
