AI Summary
This report outlines the goals and formative evaluation of a campaign aimed at encouraging older adults in the US with diabetes to self-test their blood sugar levels using a glucometer. The campaign's primary objective is to motivate and educate this demographic on the effective use of glucometers, emphasizing the importance of regular monitoring to prevent health risks and reduce the burden on the healthcare system. The report references formative research conducted by the American Diabetes Association, highlighting the prevalence of diabetes among the older population and the challenges they face in using modern medical devices. It identifies the need for user-friendly glucometers and tailored educational programs to address the lack of motivation and awareness among older adults. The report also discusses the methods used to gather data on patient behavior and theoretical bases for behavior change, with the goal of informing the development of effective health promotion messages and channels.

3CAMPAIGN GOALS AND FORMATIVE EVALUATION
The study has referred to the pre-production or formative research which were
conducted by the American Diabetes Association for helping in the development of health
promotion product, i.e., glucometer. The results were found out to be 10.9 million US adults
aging above 60 years are affected with diabetes (Song et al. 2016). Among them 8 out of 10
every patient suffers an abnormality in blood sugar stability. It is leading to many heath risks
and also producing a huge burden on the nation.
The results also made evident that such cases are high among older population since
they lack motivation and are not capable of using glucometer effectively. The health
promotion product is glucometer in this case where a glucometer manufacturing company
will be assigned with the order of producing n number of glucometer in a frequent time
period. The product will be easy to learn for older people with convenient features to use on
daily basis (Soenksen & Mamat, 2018). Ten to twelve staffs will be enough for promoting the
product and campaigning, to begin with, and engage in the program in a periodic manner.
Regarding this health problem among the older population, it was required to know
the main reason behind such an irregular increase in the patient numbers. It has been found
from the report of most of the older population that they are uncomfortable with operating
modern instruments and avoid them as they believe it to be complex (Park, 2017). Many are
also not aware of the presence of such instruments and not enough educated to handle (Jones
& Caird, 2017). These data were collected from various hospitals reports to know about the
major issue in using glucometer as a product for improving health condition.
In order to develop the message and channels for promoting the health product, their
general patterns for self-efficacy was required to be found out so as to encourage and
motivate them in much more relevant manner. This data was collected from a random older
population to know how the awareness program can be shaped to influence their behaviors.

Same data were utilized for knowing about their theoretical bases to achieve behavior
changes among the older population suffering from diabetes.
