By 2020, Canada, will have more than one million employment opportunities for both
temporary and permanent residents! The country has slowly become a hotspot for education,
mining and employment, especially its capital Toronto (Reddan & Kenny, 2018). In fact,
individuals as young as 15 years, to those aged 24 spend much less time seeking employment in
the job market. This is because a majority are not chosen only based on experience and education
level, but also on their employment prospects (Reddan & Kenny, 2018). Hence, while males
aged 25 to 54 may spend more time seeking employment, women, who more often work in high
turnover industries, are least likely to be unemployed.
The current economic climate in the country is demanding for more employees in food
services and hospitality, retail sector, and in social work and healthcare. Out of these three
sectors, workers are particularly needed in retail, and accommodation and food services because
of the current high turnover rates of 58,000 and 61,000 respectively, as compared to the 45,000
turnover rate in healthcare (SSC, 2018). Consequently, under the Temporary Foreign Worker
Program, the country makes arrangements to provide sufficient work permits for all immigrants,
refugees, and citizens within the borders of the country. As such, immigrants who qualify for
employment in the aforementioned sectors can also legally relocate to the country, with or
without their families, as skilled laborers. Permanent residency options is also available to non-
residents of the country in the form of work programs, such as, the caregiver program (Reddan &
Kenny, 2018). Since the biggest hurdle is getting a job offer, the country has ensured that there
are numerous job advertisement platforms in the country, the most popular being online job
boards, and personal networking systems. Other useful online resources also include social

(SSC, 2018).
