This research proposal explores the phenomenon of cancel culture, focusing on its impact on social media and society. The study aims to investigate how individual actions and cultural differences influence the functioning of cancel culture, particularly in countries like Malaysia and Australia. The proposal outlines the research questions, hypothesis, and elements such as micro, meso, and macro factors related to social media's influence on cultural norms. This is because globalization is understood as the multifaceted relationship which links

and reinforces is what individuals believe results in fostering social cohesion as well as aiding to
establish moral standards as well as expectations for the political community in general. In the

individuals tend to agree on conventional norms of right as well as wrong, upright and immoral,

word of the year since, Australians suppose that the term captures imperative aspects of previous

on the fact that if someone acts in unusual manner, others tend to deem challenging and
awkward. Such condemnation tends to silence the opinions and thoughts, by disapproving cancel
culture claiming it to prejudicial and undiscerning. In the view of Asmelash (2019), the concern
regarding perspective of cancel culture fails to exhibit realism. On the other hand, such a
conception has developed into a catch-all for individuals positioned in self-regulating level
encounter fallouts for their acts or receive any type of criticism which they do not experience in
usual times. The proposed topic of cancel culture reflects differently to my immediate culture of
collectivism. Malaysians in recent times owing to increasing demand of social media have been
putting forward relevant opinions and thoughts in an approach which was not feasible or
acceptable before (Marcotullio, 2017). However, because of the persistent perspectives of
racism, gender, ethnicity and bigoted behaviour, wealthy or leaders possessing individualistic
values and principles have been facing challenges as they used to suppose that only their
privilege will recurrently safeguard them from public exploration. According to collective
cultural individuals, the concept of cancel culture has been safeguarding individuals who show
inability in dealing with cultural shift in order to delegitimize such criticism. As a result,
Malaysians often have been treated as the others in the sphere of cancel culture.
