Chronic disease is a human health condition wherein the dieses will be prevailing in
the body of the person for a long period. Cancer is one of the most common chronic disease
that has caused to death. Various risk factors are being involved in a chronic diseases. Cancer
not only effects a person physically but also mentally [1]. As it is considered as one of the
fatal diseases, people have been more stressed with the disease rather than actually being
affected by the disease. The paper will be explaining about Drake, who is a 52 years old man
being effected with cancer.
The aim of the paper is to identify the ways, which the nurses will provide nursing
care to the patients and the ways treatment will be helpful in developing the condition of the
people suffering from cancer.
Cancer is one of the largest effected chronic diseases that is fatal in most of the cases.
An abnormal growth of cells that will be spreading to other parts of the body if not detected
in the right time. It has been witnessed by researchers that various lifestyle of a person has a
great impact that has been causing cancer. Changes in the life style will help in development
as well as brining in prevention of cancer. Cancer is curable if diagnosed in early stages [2].
It is necessary that individuals must take initiates that will help them in leading a healthy and
peaceful life. The person undergoes various stages of diagnosis that helps to detect cancer. In
case, cancer is being found the samples are being tested to find whether it is malignant or not
[3]. After the diagnosis of cancer there are various steps that are being followed in order to
ensure that the patient is being provided with the right care and treatment that will help in the
development of the patient.
Drake used to work as a miner in a mining industry. He was 52 years old who has
been leading a peaceful life with his wife and children. He had smoking habits as well as used
to consume alcohol on a weekly basis. He was a worker in the mining industry, who used to

handle various toxic objects and materials that if inhaled or contacted with bare hands could
create serious disease. It has been assumed by doctors that his history of working in a mining
industry as well as consumption of alcohol and tobacco is the prime reason that has led to
cancer.
He has been leading a healthy life unless he witnessed a tumour in his chest. Initially
it was a small peanut sized; however, with time it has grown to a walnut size. He was scared
when he noticed the size grow within a week. When he was being diagnosed, he was found to
be effected with cancer. However, as he was diagnosed in the initial stage of cancer, there is a
great chance of recovery.
Initiatives has been taken by the hospital organisation to ensure that he is being
provided with adequate service that will help him to recover as early as possible [2]. With the
detection of cancer, there has been changes in the mental state of the patient as well as their
family. Stress, anxiety, depression and social withdrawal are some of the conditions that the
patient as well as their family has to witness. Hence, the first step that is being taken by the
caregivers is to ensure that the patient as well as their family do not panic [6]. They ensure
that they communicate well to the family and patient in order to ensure that they feel safe and
secured. Mental health has a great impact on the physical health that will be influencing the
recovery of the patients. Hence, the nurses ensure that the patients must be positive and that
will help in recovering soon. The earliest measure that is being taken by the nurses are to
provide the patients with food that will help in developing the immunity system of the people
[7]. When Drake was being admitted, the first thing that he was asked to was to bring in
changes in his lifestyle.
Various implications have been impacting the care that is being provided to the
patients. Aging is one of the reason that has been identified. The development of technology

is one of the reason that has helped the health givers to come up with ideas that will help in
cure cancer [5] . However, the caregivers must be trained for specialised technology handling
that will help in the development or curing of the disease as early as possible.
Depending on the working as well as lifestyle of the person, the disease becomes
more influential. Factors that has been affecting the growth of cells in Drake’s body was his
constant smoking habits and consumption of alcohol along with his working with toxic
materials. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he should change his lifestyle that will help
in the development of the condition he was going through [4]. The nurses and doctors ensures
that the patients are being provided with the right medication that will help them to improve
their situation. Treatments like chemotherapy, surgery and radiations are being used that will
help in improving the condition of the people effected with cancer.
Hence, nurse and doctors ensures that the patients must be supported mentally as well
as physically as it is a situation that has a great impact on the family of the patients. The
doctors ensures that the patients is being effected with cancerous cells before undergoing any
sort of surgery or chemotherapy. Various impacts like hair fall, wrinkles are some of the
common conditions that are being witnessed after chemotherapy [8]. Hence, the nurses as
well as the families must try to provide mental strength to patients that will help in
development of the condition of the patients. The patient must also be positive that will help
in fast recovery from the diseases.
