INTRODUCTION
In this assignment of The Third Sector, the main aim is to figure out the roles and benefits of
the third sector that supports the operations of Public Services. In the first part, an investigation
will be performed to find out the role of Third Sector organization in support of public services
and the society. Further, a Comparison will be made between various types of public services
delivered by the third sector organizations by using the real world examples. In the next part,
an analysis will be done to find out the benefits along with the barriers to the third sector as
well the public services through outsourcing or partnership. At last, the assignment will be end
by justifying the use of Third Sector organization and identifies its application to the work of
public services.
The above points will be covered with respect to Cancer Research organization of UK. It Is a
Charitable organization that aims in reducing the number of deaths from cancer (Bjerkvig,
2017). It was founder on 4 February 2002 by the merger of Imperial Cancer Research Fund &
the Cancer Research Campaign.

ORGANIZATION
Cancer Research Organization of UK is a third sector organization deals in the public services
and charity jobs. They work with the motto of ‘Life Changes here’ and its role is to beat cancer
globally. The organization is introduced to help the Cancer patient and help them to beat
cancer sooner. The organization committed to take care of the health, happiness, talent, hard
work as well as financial well-being no matter a person is on which stage of Cancer. The major
role of Cancer Research organization is to prevent cancer across the world with the support of
best doctors, scientists and the nurses to discover best ways to diagnose cancer from the world.
The Cancer Research organization of UK is known as the largest independent funder of Cancer
Research in all over the world (Alcock, 2010).
ROLE OF CANCER RESEARCH ORGANIZATION WITHIN SOCIETY
The awareness charity Cancer Research in UK works for the welfare of society by identifying the
causes of cancer and develops multiple strategies for treatment, prevention, diagnose and cure.
American Society of Clinical Oncology is a foundation of public awareness and raises the funds
for cancer research within society (Osborne et al., 2016). The organization offers several
resources for the health care professions and cancer physicians within the society. Cancer
Research organization organizes different awareness campaigns in the society for the
awareness of people cancer Society began promoting Breast cancer promoting month in 1980s
and works with the pink symbol to generate awareness with the purpose of cancer research
(Siegel et al., 2016).

TYPES OF PUBLC SERVICES DELIVERED BY CANCER RESEARCH ORGANIZATION
Cancer Research organization deals in providing services and information to the general public,
healthcare professionals and the scientific community about cancer research (Haynes, 2015).
The organization also created website through cancer heath UK that provides information on
how to care and beat cancer along with a unique clinical trials database. Cancer Research is
charity organization and its ownership is a Public Limited Company, therefore it is responsible
to provide public services to the people (Alcock, 2010). The major role is to overcome the issues
of public health by identifying the genetic factors and medical exposures that can contribute to
the cancer risk. It has organized some Cancer control programs that analyses the patterns of
cancer in different health care settings (Stead et al., 2011).
COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT SERVICES DELIVERED BY CANCER RESEARCH
ORGANIZATION USING REAL WORLD EXAMPLES
The association of Cancer Research demonstrates the potential of real-world evidence

expertise together to develop cancer treatments for the patient’s benefit (Salamon and
Sokolowski, 2016). Cancer Research UK shares a close relation with The Royal Marsden, the
foundation trust of NHS. The Royal Marsden is a world-leading cancer hospital and its close
partnership with the Cancer Research helps in taking the results of the research rapidly to the
clinic with the purpose of developing best treatments for the patients of cancer (Bach-
Mortensen and Montgomery, 2018). Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden are considered in
the top four centres of the cancer research and also rewarded as the National Institute for
Health Research Centre. There are various advantages and disadvantages of the outsourcing
and partnership to the Cancer Research that are as follows:
BENEFITS
 NHS is known for Outsourcing the charity jobs for their public services. The foundation
trust of NHS offers benefits of the cost savings and the competitive advantage to the
Cancer Research organization. It is responsible to improve service quality of Cancer
Research that results in continuous and strong growth by preventing more people from
the cancer disease (Sallis et al., 2015).
 The most important part of cancer research is Cancer Registry which is responsible for
the outsourcing as it provides data to the cancer research on which it can rely greatly.
The person that maintains a cancer registry can discover very well the cure for cancer.
UK economies are facing recession and therefore it considers cancer registry as
outsourcing and the best way to save up on money (Salamon and Sokolowski, 2016).
 The partnership with The Royal Marsden provides Cancer Research a wide range of
experiences and expertise that allows it to build more integrated teams that can solve
the issue related to the cancer research. Along with this, it also leads to the better

management of voluntary programs organized by the cancer research. Therefore this
partnership becomes an important part of the Cancer Research’s benefits packages.
BARRIERS
 Though the oncology diagnostics & the therapeutics are changing rapidly, there is a shift
to an outsourcing research model which can lead to changes in the functions of Cancer
Research organization (Bach-Mortensen and Montgomery, 2018).
 The outsourcing by the NHS has many implications on Cancer Research organization as it
is seen that outsourced patients are suffered more and there have been failures
multiple times on a number of level and the patients are not vetted fully as they should
be.
 A culture of secrecy and the lack of transparency often seem in the NHS contracts. NHS
is sometimes vetted the organization inadequately and shortcoming in monitoring
outsourced contract and the supervision when in progress (Murray, 2016).

APPLICATION IN THE RANGE OF PUBLIC SERVICES
Third sector or voluntary organizations deals in the work of a range of public services. Cancer
Research organization is also useful in public services as it manly deals for preventing health
issues of the cancer patients. Cancer Research organization is the UK organization of health that
comprises the department of public services and human health (Sallis et al., 2015). The Cancer
Research organization UK is a government’s federal principal agency for the cancer research &
training. The organization has been organizing the Cancer Programs over the years and
maintains authority & responsibility to add new mandatory information to assess the
incorporation of cancer treatments into clinical practice (Murray, 2016). Following key points
will make the use of third sector organization justifies in the range of public services.
 The organization provides research grants and agreements to coordinate research
projects that are conducted by the hospitals and research foundations throughout the
country (Murray, 2016).
 It supports clinical discipline for participating in clinical research programs relating to the
cancer through awards and fellowship.
 It collaborates with other third sector organizations engaged in cancer research
activities.
Therefore it seems that Cancer Research organization supports heath information & other
programs for the public services with respect to prevention and treatment of cancer by
continuing care of patients and their families (Sallis et al., 2015).

CONCLUSION
The report of third sector is based on the benefits that are attained by doing partnership with
the public services. The essay has explained the roles of the Cancer Research organization of UK
in the first part and also includes the type of their work in public services. Further, the role of
the organization was discussed in the context of society. Along with this, a comparison has been
made to discuss the types of public services delivered by Cancer Research organization by using
real world examples. In the next part, an analysis has been made on the barriers & benefits to
the organization through outsourcing and partnership. At last, it can be concluded that the
