Introduction
In the company, there are various such aspects that are required to be considered so
that the importance of the same for the industry can be evaluated. The report will be covering
the background of Canfor and with that, the situation of the company will also be considered.
The manner in which the company is relevant for the whole industry will also be identified
and taken into consideration. There are various ethical and social responsibilities that are
required to be fulfilled by the corporation and for that various standards are used. The way in
which Canfor is pursuing the same will be accounted for in the report.
a) Company background and its relevance for industry
Canfor Corporation is a leading company in Canada that is involved in the forest
products and manufactures pulp, lumber and paper. The company was established in the
1930’s and after that started to grow. The headquarters in the US was opened in 2016 and it
has been identified that a total of 53.6% interest is held by it in the Canfor pulp products Inc.
(Canfor Corporation, 2017). there are three mills of Canfor pulp which are located in Prince
George and have been identified as the NBSC pulp producer with the lowest cost in complete
Canada.
It is considered a very relevant part of the industry and it provides employment to
various people and there were 6380 people to whom direct employment has been provided in
December 2016. The present annual production capacity which is maintained by Canfor
lumber is around 5.8 billion board feet of lumber. Due to this, it carries a share in the total
market requirement which makes it important for the industry. The production which is made
by the company comprises of the best quality as it holds high-quality assets. There is an
advancement that is made in the model by which the Canfor pulp and Canfor could work as a

single entity. There were various new strategies and methods which were implemented in the
company and that sustainable development has been made possible.
The company is acting as an industry leader due to its better services and products.
There are various innovations that are made and the high-quality wood is supplied which
makes it a global leader. Sustainable forest management is necessary and for that, there is the
involvement of diverse stakeholders with whom the company is working (Canfor
Corporation, 2019). Due to this such products are produced which are best in quality and by
that customer support and loyalty are ensured. The company has been involved among the
top 100 companies in BC in 2016 on the basis of the revenue.
There is a lot of research that is carried by the companies in relation to fiber analysis,
forest management, quality control, product and building system development and
manufacturing processes. The company is also a member of the research and development
organization of the industry which makes it important and relevant for industry. Due to all of
this the company is working in a better situation and is maintaining its position in the market.
b) Encouragement of ethical and business standards
Ethics is an important requirement of all the businesses and it is required to be
maintained in an adequate manner. Canfor is also working towards this direction and for that,
there are various measures which are adopted by the company. In the company, there is a
code of conduct that has been formulated and in that, all of the standards and ethics which are
required to be followed have been mentioned. The company is encouraging ethics by making
the proper rules for the same and including it in conduct which will make it responsibility for
all to meet the requirements (Canfor Corporation, 2014). All the stakeholders and other
people who are involved with the company are required to comply with them and maintain
them with sincerity. It is the duty of all to work in accordance with the set standards as with

the company so that interest of all can be protected. There is a harassment policy that has
been formulated and in that, all have been given the right to pursue their career and no one is

shall be proper safety of all the employees and for that, there is occupational health and safety
policy has been formulated. This ensures that there is a safe working environment which is
maintained for all the workers. By this, the staffs are motivated and are ready to work
according to the ethics and set standards. They oblige with them and help the company in
attaining the target without any breach.
In addition to this, the customers and suppliers are also required to be managed and
for that also the standards are framed by which all their needs are fulfilled and they are
satisfied at the highest level. There is proper training which is given to personnel dealing with
the customers. By this, they will be able to communicate in an effective manner and will
understand the point of others in a better manner (Guerci et al., 2015). They will be working
with integrity, honesty and respect which are also the part of ethics. Due to this, it will be
ensured that all are following ethics for the benefit of them and business.
There are an entertainment and gift policy which has been developed by Canfor and
all the personnel will be following the same. There are various situations in which the staffs
accept the gifts from the customers and by that conflict of interest arises (Peterson, 2013). In
order to restrict this, the policy is made and under that, the staff will not be allowed to accept

any kind of gift. This is also one of ethical measure as by this the unethical activities which
may be performed by the personnel for personal interest is avoided.
The company makes various standards and in that the improper payments which are
made to the government to get the work done have been restricted. It is not allowed for the
company to make any payment to the government which proves to be unethical and that
maintains the appropriate position in the business. By this, the work is performed with
honesty and the set procedure and that maintains the ethical relations in the company.
All of the points which have been identified prove that the company has undertaken
various steps by which it is successful in attaining the ethical position. There are several
standards that have been created and by which the operational performance of the company is
also improved (Kaptein, 2015). The polices which are made are required to be adhered to by
all and that will help them in attaining the standards. The non-compliance of the policies is
strictly banned and if any party is found to breach the policies then there is strict punishment
which is set for all the involved parties. Due to this, the company is successful in encouraging
ethical and business standards.

The report has been prepared in respect of Canfor Corporation and in that various
aspects have been covered. The background of the company has been identified and that
covers all the important information about the company. It has been determined that there is
an improvement that is made at all levels and continuous success is maintained. The manner
