An interview with the designated authority on how to maintain the computers
Computers are just consumable products that also fail due to the hardware or software
complications. Whenever the computers fail to function as expected, they are taken to the
shops for them to be repaired. I had the opportunity to interview OWILI, a company that
repairs the computers located in kiambiyo Nairobi. Some of the most common computer
repairs questions were sufficiently answered.
STUDENT: What are those common problems that are associated with the computer that you
solve in shop workshop?
OWILI: The problems are quite a number. For effective understanding, the problems can be
broken down in the following sub heading
1 the malware removal-It is the most common with the computers. It is almost unavoidable
problem that seem to be attached to nearly everything. The simple’s things that are taken to

the motherboards and even fans.
STUDENTS: What are the tools you always prefer using or the programs that you always use
to fix or diagnose the computer?
OWILI: It is not all about my preference, but it is about what is appropriate to solve the
problem at hand. One needs good tools to do a better job. To be able to properly diagnose a
computer, one must be able to know what is not working correctly within the system and
what is working. The hardware and the software are diagnosed together although the software
may always take one a few minutes to establish what the problem is. For the starters, one may

need to keep on the top service packs, virus definitions and the updates. Here one will purely
use observation for the success. The user therefore must bring the computer for check-up
regularly.
STUDENT: Which is the worst computer brand have ever worked with?
OWILI: I would not wish to single any of them out now. Considering the ease and quality of
the installation, the companies are competing favourably. Most of their desktops tend to be
propriety. The best computer to buy is one whose spare parts can be found in the local shops.
STUDENTS: Would you recommend Dell computers to any of your clients?
OWILI: I will not recommend the Dell computers to most of my clients. It is only you that I
would recommend the Dell for but in a condition that you will be using it specifically for the
multimedia purposes to do the video editing.
Do you recommend a specific backup method to your clients? The backup solutions may be
different both on the hardware and the software. The external drives and online services
should be used by those operating from home.
How much is the average labour cost for repairing the computers?
OWILI: It is difficult to tell on this because it varies from shop to shop. In some shops they
provide diagnostic services while I the others it is done at a fee.
STUDENT: Should laptops be repaired or just replaced in relation to the cost?
OWILI: This will depend on the age of the computer and the level of damage to be repaired.
If the level of damage is too high then it better be replaced.
STUDENT: What is your priority tip for the computer users?
