Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment, part of the N3335 Health Promotion Across the Lifespan module, requires students to analyze their carbon footprint using an online calculator and propose three specific actions to reduce their environmental impact. The student calculated their footprint to be 24.6 tons and proposed switching to carpooling or cycling, reducing energy consumption by switching to LED lights, and modifying their diet to consume less meat. Each action is supported by rationale and references to research, demonstrating an understanding of how these changes can decrease CO2 emissions and promote sustainability. The assignment aims to describe one's own impact on the environment and how to mitigate it.

Overview: Carbon Footprint Analysis
Carbon Footprint is one of the most common ways to measure the effect an individual, family,
organization or country has on the environment.
You will use an online tool to calculate your own (or your family’s) carbon footprint. Then you will
propose three steps you can take to reduce your impact on the environment.
Objective:
Describe one’s own impact on the environment and three ways to reduce that impact.

Calculating Your Carbon Footprint
Complete the carbon footprint analysis at https://www3.epa.gov/carbon-footprint-calculator/
Be sure your result is in tons of carbon dioxide rather than pounds Record your footprint
value in the space below.
Action Plan
List three specific things you can change to decrease your carbon footprint. Include a rationale or
description of why/how each of your actions will decrease your carbon footprint. You may find
many suggestions at the websites listed in your Readings sections for this week.

49,675lbs. / 2000 = 24.6 tons
1. In order to decrease my carbon footprint, I will switch to use car pool system or cycle to my
college as it is near to my house. As my house already have one bikes and two car, we are
contributing 56% of the carbon through extensive of use of vehicle. It create huge emission
of CO2 which is increasing the carbon footprint. Hence, I will set goal of cycling or walking
within 3.5 miles from my home (Ercan, Ona & Tatari, 2016). I will also suggest my parents too
for opting car pool instead of taking their own individual car.
2. As I misuse lot of electricity by not switching off the blub and use mobile, laptops and other
electronic equipment, it has contributed 34% to carbon footprint. I will reduce use of energy
by taking zero-volt challenge, install solar panel and switch to LED lights bulbs. By more use
of energy, there will be more use of radiation which is potent cause of depletion of ozone
layer and high CO2 content in the atmosphere (Rossi et al., 2016). Hence above action will
help to decrease my emission of CO2 by 0.6 tons.
3. I will modify my eating habit and consume less meat, emphasizing more on red meats. It is
known that cow and sheep contribute to large quantities of methane in atmosphere which is
the most harmful global warming gas and cause depletion of ozone layer (Hallström,
Carlsson-Kanyama & Börjesson, 2015). Switching to vegan diet will help in making 23%
difference in entire carbon impact.
