In the town Simei, while visiting the facility in vegetable garden, I saw that the tools,
equipments and garden are modified to suit the needs of the older people that helped them in
many ways. I believe that when older people are engaged in gardening activities, it promotes
relaxation and strength. Moreover, they also benefit the garden facility as they get homegrown
and nutritious foods promoting a healthy life. The second facility is exercise corner for the older
people to perform physical activity. I think older people can benefit from the facility in a way
where it can improve their mobility, coordination, endurance and overall well-being. The
concept of senior-friendly exercise equipments, metal drain covers on footpaths and ample
lightning in the park would help seniors to stay well functional and productive (Raitoharju et al.,
2014). Exercise equipments for the elderly people helps them to stay fit and in shape imparting
confidence in them along with balance and coordination (Granacher et al., 2013).
The third facility is provided in Brahm centre where it focused on empowering seniors
so that they live life independently and reach their best potential. I think the facility of care
management team is beneficial for the older people who are vulnerable through services
befriending and case management. Weekly health talks that are conducted at the centre are quite
beneficial as it helped in sharing health information with seniors so that they discuss their health
issues (Nicolle et al., 2014). A wide range of facilities are provided to the seniors like activity
clubs, yoga and special activities like baking class and Smartphone workshop that can help them
in preventing health issues and thus reducing the burden of caregivers.
The fourth facility is provided at six nursing homes in Orange Valley Nursing Home in
Singapore for meeting the needs of the elderly people. I agree that the home care facilities like
rehabilitation centres, food and nutrition services, and dementia care with healthcare and medical
supplies are beneficial for them to fulfil their needs. Moreover, in my opinion, facilities at the

nursing home are beneficial in treating the older people as a whole that encompasses physical,
emotional, spiritual, social, nutritional, lifestyle and environmental values. They are also
benefitted in a way seniors are assisted with personal care so that it preserves their dignity and
help in maintaining a quality life (Brownie & Nancarrow, 2013). The fifth facility is provided at
St. Andrew Community Hospital that comprises of outpatient services like rehabilitation and
primary care services, community therapy and home healthcare facilities. I think that this facility
can be utilized by older people in a way as it is convenient for them to receive seamless and
continuous care after discharge from acute care in hospital while settling down in nursing homes
or community centres.
While completing this portfolio, I learned about the various aged care facilities that are
required in meeting their needs so that they lead an independent and quality life. However, I
realized that some improvements are required in order to enhance the facilities. The exercise
equipments should be designed considering the specific fitness level of every senior citizen.
Moreover, the facilities should be designed in such a manner that prevents injuries under the
supervision of a trainer with prior guidance from physician.
