Career Point facilitates a person to take different actions in their life so that they can become
successful in their career. A person can attain success in career by getting significant level of
education and a good job (Autin, 2018). With the gradual movement in the designation and roles
and responsibilities along with authorities the success can be defined. As per analysis done in
coursework 1, it is identified that the role of accountant has various opportunities in UK as
different multinational companies has been operating in UK and each and every organisation has
to appoint an accountant. The growing retail industry is an attraction for getting employment an
accountant as it will offer various opportunities for personal and professional growth. With the
analysis various skills and knowledge that are required to perform the role of accountant are
identified which includes better communication skills, management skills, knowledge of
information technology etc. In this report analysis of personal strengths and weaknesses is done
along with this a career action plan will be formulated that will help in developing the required
skills so that goals and objectives can be accomplished. In addition to this the CV and LinkedIn
profile is also prepared with the help of which one can apply for the job.
PERSONAL ANALYSIS
To undertake different roles it is crucial for an individual to have a set of skills and
knowledge with which they can perform their roles and responsibilities efficiently. I found that
the Retail Industry is an emerging industry due to which it will offer various opportunities for the
personal and professional growth (Vondracek, Lerner and Schulenberg, 2019).. In UK there are
various retail organisations operating with the role of an accountant who can manage their
transactions and daily operations. For performing the role of an accountant I have to identify
various skills and knowledge that is required and accordingly I need to develop them. As I have
been undertaking a certification course on accounting I have various skills such as understanding
of accounting terminologies, accounting procedures and concepts, significant knowledge of
various software used for managing the accounts, financial reporting framework etc. All these
will help me in managing the daily operations of an organisation in retail sector. Apart from this
I have understanding of Corporate Finance, data entry management, compilation rules and
procedure, and many more which make me capable enough of performing my role better. My
communication skills are better as I have been participating in various activities on both school

organisation with other departments and with the person I have to report to. During my
graduation I have to undertake an internship as part of my course and I did it with Tesco. There I
was given responsibilities of managing the data by collecting is from different departments and
posting it on the software used by the company. With this I could develop an understanding of
how the software works for accounting and what challenges are faced while posting the data.
Later on I was given responsibility for compilation of the accounts and preparations of
summaries of various accounts of distributors and for this I had to work in a team. This
facilitated me in developing skills of team management. The practical understanding of how the
information is presented by the organisation before their stakeholders and the basis with which
the policies are formulated by them is developed. In addition to this, I could develop my problem
solving skills and could enhance my focus on each and every detail related to the transaction.
This makes me capable enough of taking decision by analysing each and every aspect. But I
realise that I do not have significant understanding of technological aspects and much awareness
about various software used for different activities in accounting (Tshube, Malete and Feltz,
2018). . To develop the skills I have to prepare a personal development plan that can facilitate
me in the opportunity in the retail sector for the role of accountant.
