Introduction:
Hotel and hospitality industry is one of the industries that provide a large number of
employments in all over the world. In order to enter this industry, it is needed to obtain some
specific qualities. For an individual, it is not possible to obtain those qualities at a time. Thus,
it is needed to identify the attributes that should be there in the character of an individual to
secure their jobs in the hospitality and the hotel industry. On the other hand, it is also needed
to identify the shortcomings that have been there in the character of the individual and
restricting him to secure a position in the industry.
The study has focused on the personal SWOT analysis and the Personal Development Plan
that should be conducted in order to know the positive and the adverse qualities in the
character of the individual.
SWOT analysis
A SWOT analysis can answer the questions regarding the strength, weaknesses, opportunities
and threats that are present in a person or an organisation, as opined by Lejeune et al. (2015).
Here, my personal SWOT analysis has been developed in order to understand the qualities
and the shortcomings that are present in my character.

Strength: In order to secure any position in the hotel and the hospitality industry, I need to
have a good communication skill. It would help me to work within a team, as it has been seen
by Tasker, (2015). Moreover, a good communication skill would help me to understand the
problems of my team members and it is possible that I will provide some potential solutions
to them to avoid kind of problems and conflicts in the team.
As I am planning to work in the hotel and hospitality industry, I need to understand that
different kinds of customers are there in the industry and such diversified are their needs and
demands. I am aware of the fact that I have to come across those demands and have to
mitigate them accordingly. My strength would help me in this regard and I would get some
competitive advantage as well, as it is reviewed by Stewart, (2016). Moreover, I am also
aware of the fact that the hospitality industry is the subject to rapid change and thus, the
employees need to adjust with that. Being one of the potential employees of the company, I
need to develop my strength. I know that the changes must be taken into consideration in
order to earn the competitive advantage in the hotel industry as well as the consumer
satisfaction and consumer retention (Varlejs, 2017).
Weaknesses: I am aiming to develop myself as one of the employees that have the ambition
of becoming the manager of the hotel. Thus, I have been able to identify some problems and
shortcomings in my character that may restrict my ambition in future. In order to be the
manager of a hotel, I need to take the entire responsibility and have to multitask, as it is said
by Gholipour, (2016). Although, I am able to do multiple task at a single time, it is not
possible for me take the whole responsibility of the entire business. I do not have the
confidence to manage this work.
Moreover, I need to have the quality of decision making in order to establish myself as one of
the competent employees of the hotel industry. However, my lack of confidence affected in
this regard. I need to have the decision-making skill that would help me to secure my position
and my confidence that is required for my job position. One of the major set back of my

character that may affect my career is that I am not very efficient at the financial calculations
as opined by (Gee et al. 2018). As I am aspiring to be a manager of a hotel in future, I have to
take the responsibility of the whole institution. Thus, my inability regarding the financial
calculation may affect my aspiration.
Opportunities: Some opportunities are there that can be effective to improve my ability and
my chances to develop my career in the hospitality industry. I need to develop my
interpersonal skills, as it would help me to develop my ability to communicate with my team
members and the customers as well, as stated by Tattum and Tattum, (2017). At the same
time, development of the technological advancement has provided some changes in the hotel
and the hospitality industry. Thus, I need to improve my computer skills and learn the use of
latest technology and software. They would be added as my additional qualification, as it may
help me to secure my position by having competitive advantage (Li, 2016).
Multitasking is one of the developments that should be there in the character of a hotel
employee. As it has been seen by the opinion of Tsai et al. (2017), due to my lack of
confidence, I am not that great at this. Thus, this opportunity would help me in to this.
Threats: I am aiming to be the employee of the hotel and hospitality industry of the company
and thus, not knowing the software used in the industry can be a threat for my position. Due
to the lack of confidence, I am not going to take the whole responsibility of the job role. This
may affect my career.

Conclusion
For concluding the study, it can be evaluated that the development of the career is precious
for every individual and it is essential to take the right steps for the betterment of the career.
In order to ensure that the individual must take the right decision the career and the personal
development, it is needed that the personal development plan and the SWOT analysis should
be conducted. With the assessment of these SWOT analysis and personal development plan,
the obstacles the individual may face in his or her career can be identified. It will be
beneficial to identify the shortcomings in the career so that the potential solutions can be
identified. Moreover, it is also can be understood that the personal development plan would
be used in order to develop the career of the individual.
