Nursing profession comprises everyday challenges and hurdles as every day the nursing
professionals handle patients with different needs (Turnock 2012). This is the reason choosing an
appropriate carer option in nursing profession becomes important as each exerts its effect on the
patient’s health improvement. I chose Health promotion officer as my future career option and in
the following section I will discuss the details regarding this profession with my personal traits.
What
The primary role of Health promotional officer is to work in partnership with a
community, which is unable to access health care or utilize their rights to attain quality
healthcare and prevent their ailments or disease conditions. To choose this career option I
audited different career options and then as per my abilities and personal traits chose this career
option. This career option falls into the community health nursing initiatives group and requires
several qualities such as understanding of responsibility, ability to communicate with a big
community, being selfless while providing care and so on. Dosseyand Keegan (2012) has also
demonstrated that the core values of a health promotional officer should be discipline and
selflessness as these two helps them to communicate with an entire community and understand
their health concerns. Further, the officer should be aware of the social health determinants and
the way these determinants affect the health outcome of communities, such as food, shelter,
economy, education, and environment. Hence, the job role will be exploring the way these
programs, practices, and policies in different areas influence the health of persons, families, and
the entire communities. Further, establishing common goals, corresponding roles, and ongoing
positive relations between the health sector and the areas of social determinants of health..
Lastly, maximizing the opportunities for collaboration among federal, state and local-level

associates related to social determinants of health. This job will be satisfying and appropriate as
communication is a big aspect of my personality and I believe being a health professional it is
my duty to reach to as many people so that health and quality care can be distributed equally
among everyone.
So what
While undergoing the audit process related to the suitable career option, I was looking for
a career option that would explore my personal strengthand my abilities so that while performing
my duty in healthcare I can provide honest and excellent work each day. I learned that while
choosing suitable career option, I preferred those jobs, I which I had to directly communicate
with patients and communities. This was important as in the audit of my personal traits,
communication was one of my strongest abilities. The further results were, emotional,
hardworking, ability to connect to a large community and so on. These traits determined that
besides my ability to communicate with communities, I was able to feel their concerns and hence
my emotional and ability to connect would help me in future to understand the health concerns of
a community. The best aspect of this career option is risk and performance management which is
an integral part of this career option and hence, while conducting health promotion for a
community, health promotional officer should be aware of these policies so that healthcare can
be achieved (Davies et al. 2012).
Now what
Therefore, I would be choosing healthcare promotional officer as my career option as the
responsibilities requires communication and personal abilities so that the local community

healthcare, cultural aspects can be understood and with compliance to that healthcare can be
achieved. Further, I will be able to communicate with the entire community, understand their
prejudices related to health and then make them aware of their rights related to healthcare
properly. Hence, care should be equally distributed among themselves (Mitchell et al. 2012).
