Introduction
A self-assessment can be defined as an essential preparatory steps for the graduate
students those who are seeking job. In career planning approach the self-assessment is
considered to be the most important as when there is a better understanding of the own skills,
knowledge, capabilities, competencies and interest it becomes easier to identify the correct and
perfect career for us. It helps us to experience ourselves as a separate and unique individuals.
This self-evaluation and analysis helps us to empower to make necessary changes so as to build
our areas of weakness and strengthen our areas of strengths. It also enables us to identify the
areas where we need to make improvements.
Self-reflection exercise
Since, starting of my graduation I was interested in becoming graduate analyst and
involved myself in taking bachelor’s degree in business. During the whole course learning and
gain knowledge on business transaction, about different companies, mergers and acquisition and
handling the financial prospects of the company. At the initial stage it was quite difficult with the
course, but later on found the subjects more interesting. As a student, the subjects got more
interesting and was really interested in exploring more on this area my interest kept on
leveraging. As a person the above attributes kept me confident enough and adaptable to the
changing situation. Good knowledge on planning and how to plan things accordingly.

Personal attributes and employability skills
Since, my graduate days I have very keen in working in a professional company so as to
embrace my skills and capabilities in the organization. My analytical skills are good and
interested in solving out reasoning and aptitude problems. In my graduate days the leadership
skill was upgraded and this is because of leading the team in project works. Motivating and
handle the whole team was very difficult and crucial but with time it became more interesting
and responsible. Team-work is very important in order to carry out a project effectively and
efficiently
Identified Strength
While working on the projects the leadership skill has been a strength of mine. It was
because of the whole team as well. The feedback gave me confidence that working as a team and
leadership skill of mine has led good results. The team was highly motivated and influenced and
were able to complete the task in time. Good communication skills is highly necessary therefore,
focusing particularly on this area made me more patience and passionate for work. This was
identified as communication skill does not indicate only the way we speak but also how we
effectively deliver it to the other person and how positively the opposite person understands us.
Therefore, excellent communication skills is one my strengths. Since, my graduation submitting
the task within the deadline have been my motto and is very fond of setting up the targets and
continuing with the work. With all these skills excelling in Microsoft office, was the area which
was interesting and useful but somehow was not prompt in using Microsoft office and therefore,
had to take classes. Participating in many management projects and have learned how to assess
business analysis in the organization. Giving business presentation and have won certificates,
this helped me to enhance my confidence level and learning skills. Utilization of time plays a

vital role in the organization therefore, trying to complete the task within the given time and may
be beforehand is beneficial. Our university used a feedback tool for the students that is 360
degree feedback. According to that feedback my overall skills and abilities were scaled 8 from
10. With reference to my feedback I tried to improve the weak areas of mine so that the next time
satisfactory feedback result can be obtained.
In order to become a business analyst it is very necessary to learn about the market
research and how to assess market research for a particular company. Therefore the business
marketing course was helpful for me to understand on this particular area. The past work
experience enabled me to learn and extract enough market knowledge that is on internal and
external stakeholders and how to do market research using software. This has also enhanced my
communication skills and customer engagement.
Professional Development Required
Apart from all this there are certain areas where I need to improve and flourish in order to excel
in my career.
Emotional Intelligence- Emotional Intelligence is an approach of understanding others
feelings and emotions. When we work in team we need to understand the situation and
conditions the other person is going through. The most effective leadership style is democratic
style not the autocratic style especially for a team who needs constant motivation and influence
for working. Therefore, this is a self-awareness area focus is required on and do my best in order
to work as a team.
Technical skills- There are many thing to learn in excel and how important it is to wok
under accounting. Excel Competency is important in accounting and assess the financial works.

In order to work efficiently it is required to improve and be skilled particularly in this area.
Hence for further development and getting best learning in excel positive enrollment in a TAFE
course will be beneficial and thus one hour of my day to practice Microsoft excel. This will help
my competency level to enhance and will bring confidence to work on excel sheet.
Networking skills- Networking can be defined to the ability of exchanging thoughts,
ideas, believes with professional individuals and groups. This skills enables us to make contacts
professionally with others. I am very good with my university team but when it comes to outside
professional team and groups I become introvert. It is important for grabbing opportunities for
jobs and career goals. Therefore, this is the most important aspect which needs to overcome. This
can be done by opening accounts in job portals like Linkldn, Indeed and SEEK.com and
attending professional events.
Therefore, from the above self-assessment I can able to understand my key skills and
competencies along with my weakness. There are areas where I need to work upon and can
enhance my overall competencies. The skills and competencies would help me to achieve my
career goal as graduate analyst.
