ADAM GRANT
THE WRONG WAYS TO PLAN A CAREER
NOV/07/2018
What were the main points of this speaker's presentation?*
Here in this speech, Adam Grant has tried to explain the right ways of going about a career by
ironically calling the speech ‘Wrong ways to plan a career’. The first thing that he emphasizes on
is putting the worst foot forward. When we start our career everyone around us is apprehensive
of the way our fortune is going to turn out. It is an uphill battle.
-He says it always a positive start if you start staggering and learning to watch the steps with
experience.
-Making the unfamiliar familiar is another important thing to do.
-Building a challenge network is important as it is going to make you innovative.
-Last but not the least, is to ask for advice from people around you. You cannot be the all-
knowing mind. Talk to the experts (Morning, 2018).
How will you apply this information in your life?*
This information was quite helpful. Through the insight provided by Adam Grant, I am going to
value advices of others and take challenges as they come. Most importantly the initial failures
will not let me down.
What did you find most interesting about this speaker?*
The most interesting thing about the speakers was the oratory power that he has. Quite
convincing with a subtle touch of humor (Baggini 2018).
If you could talk to the speaker, what would you say/ask?*
I would ask him who, according to him, the best CEO in the world is when it comes to
philanthropy.
Would you recommend this speaker to other students? Why or why not?*

SCOTT HAMILTON
FINISH FIRST: WINNING CHANGES EVERYTHING
MAR/13/2018
What were the main points of this speaker's presentation?*
-Winning is not always a competition against others but also competition against ourselves.
-Competition is good
-Failure is nothing that should leave a scar but it is just an information. An information that one
must use to be careful in future and build a better plan.
-Of course remembering failure cannot be glorious. You may feel low but that should not take on
more than just momentary thoughts (Vogelzang& Vogelzang 2018).
How will you apply this information in your life?*
With this presentation I got to know the concept of winning. With the book and the presentation
the main idea is to live victoriously and live a life by being on the right page.
What did you find most interesting about this speaker?*
The most interesting thing I find about the speaker is that he is a through and through champion,
no matter what field of life it is. He did not limit himself to ice skating. He has proven that one
could be champion in several fields.
If you could talk to the speaker, what would you say/ask?*
If I could meet him I would ask him what keeps him going. Was it a plan to be an expert on
multiple layers or it happened by chance? Was there a secret plan at work?
Would you recommend this speaker to other students? Why or why not?*
Yes. I will recommend the speaker. Who would not recommend him? A champion like him is
needed by everyone in this mad race of competition.

KATHRYN MINSHEW
THE NEW RULES OF WORK
FEB/27/2018
What were the main points of this speaker's presentation?*
-In the video we see that the main aim of the book was to make the people get the maximum
satisfaction from the job they select. Because of pressure of getting settled in life we start to get
settled for jobs that are not meant for us. The result is dissatisfaction (Caldwell, 2017).
-Through the presentation about the book one gets to know about Muse and how there are more
job options for us than we imagine (The Muse).
How will you apply this information in your life?*
We often don’t know ourselves which job is better which, later on, makes us take up jobs that are
actually not suited for us. Frustration and a sense of non-belonging takes over that gradually
spreads to personal space leading to depression. With the information that has been provided to
me I am going to understand the fact that options are never narrow if we look deeply (The Going
Scared Podcast Jessica Honegger, 2018).
What did you find most interesting about this speaker?*
The most interesting this I found was that Kathryn used the loophole in the industry as an
inspiration to establish The Muse. With The Muse she helped people in looking for answers that
she herself could not find when she was looking for one.
If you could talk to the speaker, what would you say/ask?*
I would ask her is it important to start with big companies. Landing job at big companies has
become a notion of having a bright career ahead. What about those who start at a startup firm?
Would you recommend this speaker to other students? Why or why not?*
Yes. I will recommend the speaker to other students as she is going to be quite helpful in making
one chose a correct career.
