TASK
Compare & Contrast of Models of case management
Case management is a process of fulfilling expectations of human service and
requirement of clients health with the help of communication & various available resources.
Process of case management includes planning. Assessing, collaborating, care coordination,
advocacy and evaluation of various options & services. Various organisations use different type
of case management models with the help of different software's such as Social solution ETO's
and Apricot software. Different type Case management models & approaches are developed for
children, adults. Men & women. One model is best for the adults suffering from any disability
while same is irrelevant for children's or men's. Thus, different type of case management models
are developed for fulfilling needs of human services and health of individuals. The brokerage
case management model and Strength Based Clinical case management model are models of
case management, which are discussed below-
The Brokerage Case Management Model- It is an approach of case management in which case
manager helps clients in identifying and evaluating requirement & needs. In this model case
manager does not provide services to the client, case manager only support the client in
evaluating the needs and give them information about various service which can be adopted by
clients and helpful for them. According to this model, clients can avail services by themselves if
they are aware about their needs & broker supportive services(Marin, Hauder and Matthes,
2016,).

Strength Based Clinical Case Management Model- This model focuses on empowerment of
clients by offering them various growth opportunities such as education, employment & skill
development. Beside, access of needs & information about broker support services this model
also provide facility of support services to the clients. It was found that, this model also motivate
the clients to interact with individuals of society and to build support network which in turn helps
the client in identifying & evaluating support services and various institutional resources.
Similarities & Dissimilarities between Both Models -
By individual research it was found that there are similarities & dissimilarities among
both the models of case management. Similarity in both the model is they both help clients in
giving access to the information about needs of clients health and information about health care
support services. In both the model's brokerage case management & strength based clinical case
management model data's are collected by the case manager in an integrated case management
system with the purpose of evaluating needs, tracking services and measuring outcomes.
On the other hand, dissimilarity is brokerage case management model does not provide
facilities regarding support services whereas Strength based clinical case management model
offer support services to the client and this model also focuses on providing growth opportunities
to the clients which is not offered by brokerage case management model. Brokerage case
management does not emphasis much on measuring outcomes while focus of strength based
clinical case management is on outcomes(Dieterich, Park and Marshall, 2017).
Ideologies & theoretical perspective of each model
The Brokerage Case Management Model
Brokerage case management model is an approach of analyzing requirements of clients
and giving them details of service centers. This approach does not cover all the activities
included in case management. Brokerage case model is for the clients who have enough money
& sufficient resources but needs guidelines & information, this is the main reason this model
does not focus on creating growth opportunities. Further, this is model does not establish long-
term relationship with the clients and this model is applied in some specific situations only thats
why this model is also known as basic model of case management.
Application of this model does not require monitoring & assessment which is an
advantage of this model. According to SAMHSA advantage of this model is case managers in
this model provides immediate information to the clients. For Example if any individual is

suffering from HIV than according to this model case manager immediately give him access to at
least two support service brokers at the initial stage of disease and case manager also provide
funds to the client if he is not able to afford the treatment which helps the client in availing faster
services
Strength Based Clinical Case Management Model
This model is a combination of acquiring the resources & activities relates to therapy and
it includes advocacy, clinical services and out reach. According to this model case manager
provides details of services and various activities such as psychotherapy and developing skills.
According to SAMHSA it is the most economical model of case management because it reduces
cost of segregating clinic and services of case management. This model is most appropriate for
treatment of abuse(Reich, Krämer and Lenninger, 2018).
In this model coordination among clients and case mangers is must have needed because
this model uses robust case management system. Robust management system is a software
which helps in tracking various support services and matrices. Strength based clinical case
management model focuses on outcomes. Thus, this model also does monitoring & assessment.
According to this model a case plan is made which contains all the planning process and
objective of the model. Monitoring is done to find out that the services provided are in the
accordance of the objective or not and reassessment is done to check that the objectives and aims
are achieved or not.
Operation of the model in the context of human service
Suitability of Model on Disability Services- After doing research on both the models of case
management, strength based clinical case management model is most appropriate than brokerage
case management model. Because, for treatment of disabled clients information about the service
and facility of treatment bot are needed which id not provided in brokerage case management
model(Kassim and Kayaga, 2016).
Suitability of Model on Mental Health- Metal health issues can be handled by providing
guidelines and advice which does not require any treatment at the initial stage. Thus, brokerage
case management is appropriate & suitable for mental health services and it economic & gives
immediate result. On the other hand strength based clinical case management take much time
and it less relevant for mental health services.
