INTRODUCTION
Present assignment has been duly conducted on Jack Stores. It is mainly a discounted
stores and are being established by TESCO management within a bid deal with extensive
competition that prevails in provinces of UK. TESCO operates their functioning as one of the
leading entity in retailing sector (Alam and Raut-Roy, 2019). Thus, to duly maintain their
positioning in marketplace organisation come up with an idea of new discount stores. In this
report, considering role of HR assistant, discussion will be made on, motivation overview along
with significance of organisation. In addition to this application of two motivation theories is
being covered in this report with the help of this company can effectively able to encourage
employees within their new stores.
Motivation and its Importance
Motivation is termed as a driving factor that significantly encourage an individual to
effectively execute their task in accordance with requirement of entity. It has been analysed that
organisation operate their functioning at global scale thus, with the help of undertaking different
types of motivating tool company cam effectively able to increase overall performance and
productivity level of employees in best effective manner. With the help of this organisation can
generate sense of trust and belongingness among employees that further tend them towards more
loyal towards entity. With the help of motivating tools as well as techniques organisation can
ensure increase in employees capabilities to perform their work towards corporate goals in well
defined manner.
Theories of Motivation
TESCO operate their functioning as largest British retailer. Company offer qualitative
products and services to customers. This has been identified that top management of company
identifies that there is increase in competition in retailing sector. It emerged out as one of the
significant threat for company that can duly threaten their market positioning. With the passage
of time this has been evaluated that LIDL and ALDI have becoming prominent of customers as
they offer products at discounted price range. In order to cope up with this situation TESCO
management emerged out with an idea of Jack stores. In this they will offer discounted products
and services as to duly increase organisational sale while further ensuring more competitive
advancements as per compared to top notch retailers such as LIDL and ALDI in marketplace.

For this company ensure that staff within organisation is motivated as they are the main revenue
generation source of organisation. Thus, in order to ensure employees satisfaction TESCO
undertake use of Maslow's and Herzberg Motivation theory for Jack Stores staff.
Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory
It is one of the most effective and extensive theory of motivation that aid entity to
motivate their employees towards efficient performance. As per in accordance with this theory it
is firstly important to fulfil low level need and then move towards higher stages. With the
application to this theory TESCO management can fulfil employee level need within Jack Stores.
Main aim of the application of this theory is to duly increase knowledge and capabilities of staff
members as to fulfil organisational objectives in best effective manner. Mentioned below the
needs that belongs to Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory is being defined below in context with
Jack Stores:
Physiological Needs: Most important factor that comprise within this level of need
include clothing, nutrition, shelter and more. Company can fulfil this level of need of employees
while offering them bonus and salary on timely basis.
Safety and Security Needs: TESCO top management can duly accomplish this need
within Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory by offering medical benefits and insurance facilities.
Social Needs: This stage of Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory include needs relating to
belongingness. These types of needs can be duly fulfilled by offering occasional get-together
and festive parties.
Esteem Needs: At this stage needs related to self respect and esteem are included that are
required to be fulfil by organisation (Hoang, Barnes and Munroe, 2019). With the help of
fulfilling these types of needs within Jack Stores TESCO can effectively able to encourage
employees towards best effective performance.
Self-Actualisation Needs: It include needs that are duly related to self development.
These forms of needs can be fulfilled by TESCO by providing regular training and developing
measures to employees within Jack Stores.
Herzberg's Two Factor Theory
It is essential for organisation to motivate their employees on continuous basis as to fulfil
organisational goals and objectives in well defined manner. It has been identified that there

Hygiene factors: This factor involves motivational needs of individuals with the help of which
entity can duly motivate their employees (Quadri, 2019). In context with TESCO, organisation
HR manager can effectively able to motivate their employees towards effective functioning.
Certain physiological needs of individuals is being defined below:
Pay: In this TESCO HR manager must ensure that they offer salary and compensatory
benefits to employees as to accomplish sociological needs of employees. This will duly motivate
employees towards effective functioning.
Working environment: Company is required to offer healthy and positive work
environment to workforce as to ensure effective functioning. In addition to this, proper hygiene,
cleanliness, Safety and latest techniques as well tool benefit company to ensure satisfaction of
employees.
Motivational factors: This factor mainly include factors that are related to encouraging
employees on regular manner. By accomplishing motivational needs of employees TESCO
manager can effectively able to motivate employees within Jack Stores in best effective manner.
Responsibility:In this it is essential for HR manager of TESCO to delegate roles as well
as responsibilities to staff as to encourage their confidence.
Rewards and recognition: Organisation is required to retain their experienced
employees. Thus, it is essential for TESCO HR manager to provide attractive rewards and
recognition to staff in terns of non-monetary and monetary incentives as to satisfy needs of
employees.

As per the above mentioned report, it has been concluded that motivation is one of the
most important element with the help of which employees can effectively motivated towards
accomplishment of organisational goals. Further it has been evaluated that with the help of
motivating techniques organisation can effectively able to boost up work performance of
employees that further lead towards increase in organisational profitability and production. Thus,
in order to stimulate staff performance company must undertake use of motivating techniques
and theories like, Maslow's Need Pyramid and Herzberg Motivation theory.
