INTRODUCTION
Mental health; refers to the mental, behavioral and emotional wellbeing of an individual.
Mental distress is also known as psychological distress refers to the exhibition of symptoms
defined in psychiatry such as anxiety, confused emotions, hallucinations and depression without
being ill in medical condition. As a person goes through life, the environment changes and it
impacts brain functions. The genes interact with the environment and it impacts mental health,
biological health, and brain function.
Biopsychosocial health analyzes the individual interaction of genetics, mind and social
environment and how these contribute to their mental health and illness.
Legal and ethical consideration of mental health care for patients in the United Kingdom. The
doctors should ensure the following to patients suffering from mental health.
Quality care is a wide range of cover and health and wellbeing support for all the clients.
Mental health act refers to a formalized legislation applied while treating the mentally ill
patients. It covers assessment, treatment and the rights of the patients with mental health.
Patients with mental health as stipulated by the act need urgent treatment and care because they
are at risk of harming themselves as well as others.
Mental disorder refers to the disability in the mind to functions appropriately.
The police have an important role to play as stipulated by the mental health act. Section 136 of
the mental health Act warrant the police that someone is found in streets or public places and
appears to have mental health disorder, this is an implication that the client needs immediate care
or control. The police should take the patients to places of safety. These can be hospitals or
sometimes the police station. The patient can then be assessed by approved doctors or mental
health professionals.

The police have to keep the client until the assessment is over, this can be up to 24 hours.
The assessment of Paul Jones must be carried by an approved mental health professional; the
inquiry would be made about his situation. The findings than would prompt the professional that
Paul would be sectioned, to mean he would be detained under a particular section of the Act.
According to the case of Paul Jones; Section 2 of the Act should be applied. This states that a
patient should be detained for 28 days. During these periods a doctor will assess whether is safe
for John to be discharged and device appropriate further care.
I proposed the above section because of the following reasons. Paul Jones is a student
who is currently perusing a level at a local school, this means that he should be at school most of
the time. The sectioning should not go for a long time to enable to go back and learn.
He is found in public places in odd hours and claims to be hearing voices. The doctor needs to
get the approved story about Paul. And because his condition is doubted, the parents should be
contacted and should also approve the mental care their son would be subjected to.
Paul has never been to any mental health care facility despite his situation. He should be given
very vigilant attention; this would include proper treatment and even referral where necessary.
Some of the treatment that Paul would be given include Lab test which involves the use of
machines to diagnose the mental health condition of a client (Park and Kim, 2019). The doctors
should try to determine the actual condition of Paul and try to device the cause; this would be
whether biological, mental or socially related.
Medication is provided to help offer recovery of the normal state of the mind. Which
include antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, and anti-psychotic medications? Guidance
and counseling of the client. Once the client has recovered, thorough guidance and counseling
should be administered to him. This would include what he should do and what he should not do.

Patient education; the doctor would offer education to Paul as well as his family members and
place him under the disease management program. Rehabilitating Paul would include close
monitoring of Paul and engaging him to some critical activities to help in recovering of proper
mental condition.
Mental health care nurse plays key roles in mental health care and in the case Paul Jones their
roles including care management where the doctor assesses John Paul and develop a treatment
plan. The nurse also mobilizes the necessary resources and assesses the care provided by others.
The nurse manages his needs and resources that would support in rehabilitation of the patient.
Assessment, evaluation, and referral of the client; the doctor encounters John directly to
administer appropriate care for him and even referral of the patient. Patient education is where
the nurses offer education to Paul and his families and also place him in disease management
programs. This will help in the administration of prevention and treatment for the patient.
Risk manager the nurse who provides prevention to the negative and adverse behavior of Paul
that would cause harm to his health and life and relationship to health care doctors. A quality
officer is a doctor that formulates and implements quality management and improved programs
for caring for Paul.
The mental team that would approve the discharge of Paul Jones is approved Mental Health
Professionals. This is because this group of people has received special training and their
functions include; assessing whether the patients' needs to be sectioned as part of their treatment.
The doctor or clinician in charge should ensure that once a patient is sectioned, he or she can
only leave the facility with the consent of the clinician place a condition for the patients to live
the facility. They can always revoke the patients live and make them come back to the facility
anytime.

Paul can be subjected to Community Treatment Order. This is because Paul is under short term
leave from the facility. According to the Act, once a patient has been treated in hospital under
mental health act and is being discharged in a short term leave then the patient must be subjected
to Community Treatment Order. This means that Paul can go home because he has met some
conditions. A care coordinator is assigned to help offer Paul with Mental health needs. This can
help in assuring prevention and recovery for Paul.
Impact of psychotic illness to Paul and the family
Acquiring basic education to completion may a problem. This is because studying with mental
illness may be more difficult with mental illness. The parents are at risk of wastage of resources
as they try to educate Paul. Performing daily duties and assignment may be a problem. This is
because Paul can easily forget, be dizzy and even have a distractive feeling towards work. The
parents' daily duties may also be distracted as they try to give proper attention to Paul.
Paul Jones and the family physical health is at risk. This is because Paul is not able to protect and
develop his physical wellbeing. He can also harm his family members unknowingly.
Paul Jones and the family suffers stigma; they are stigmatized about son life and wellbeing. This
is because everybody knows the bad story about their son. Paul disappears to streets and public
places which make him also vulnerable to any harming situation.
The doctor should educate Paul and his family to be very vigilant to the warning sign of the
mental ill state. This will help them to contact the doctors as first as possible so that Paul is
assisted before his condition worsens.

The doctor should advise on proper routine medical care; Paul should not neglect check-up or
skip visits as scheduled by the primary care provider. The medications given should also be
taken appropriately without fail. This would ascertain a quick recovery.
The doctor should advise the family to take good care for Paul. These would include healthy
eating and having enough sleep. Helping him to maintain a regular schedule with the primary
caregiver.
CONCLUSION
Mental illness refers to the disability of the mind to function appropriately. This is one of the
major issues in contemporary society. The adverse effects of mental illness have to lead the
government In the United States of America to implement an Act that offers appropriate care for
the patients who suffers mental illness. This Act was also amended in 2007 to meet a quality care
system for clients. The doctors, nurses and even approved professionalisms are guided by certain
code of standards and ethics for appropriate handling for the client. A biopsychosocial model
should be used for mentally ill patients. This will help to address proper medication to the patient
while focusing on the key cause of the condition. The doctors would ascertain whether the client
condition is caused by biological factors, mental or psychological factors, and social
environment.
