RE: APPLICATION FOR THE REGISTRATION AS A CB-L
I am writing to apply for the registration as a Commercial Builder – Limited (CB-L) as required
by law. As a Commercial Builder, it is my obligation to oversee all the construction operations
(and their components) of commercial buildings and structures. They include all building and
structure types of Class 2 to class 9, and building types of Class 10 buildings, but domestic
buildings based on the Building Code of Australia (Building Code of Australia, 2014). I possess
the skills, knowledge and experience in this field, hence my reason for application as a
Commercial Builder – Limited.
First, I possess the educational background that is required for registration with the board in this
capacity. As a requirement, all building practitioners applying for registration as a CB-L must
have a minimum education level of either a Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) or
a Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) in order to be eligible for registration. I
have met this criterion since I already have a Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).
Besides, I possess several competencies as a Commercial Builder, and I have completed various
educational modules and equivalent courses.

Second, I am a registered regulating body of the building industry in the country, the Victorian
Building Authority (VBA). My VBA registration is enough evidence that in my practice, I
always ensure the safety and the health of all people while carrying out the construction of
commercial buildings – a primary objective of the Authority (Victorian Building Authority,
2019). My registration is also a testimony that I can handle high-value building works, and I
have the competence to provide varied types of building construction works.
Another reason for my application to be registered as a CB-L is that I posses the skills,
knowledge and experience required. My registration with VBA is an indication of the possession
of the same skills. Moreover, registration as CB-L means that I am eligible of constructing low
rise (up to 15 meters in height, and involving bulk excavations up to 3 metres depth) to medium
rise (up to 25 metres in height, and involving bulk excavations up to 8 meters deep) buildings
and structures. I also have the capacity to arrange for inspections and certifications of building
works, and planning, management, and coordination of all operations that pertain to the
construction of commercial buildings. Furthermore, I have practical experience in the
construction of commercial buildings of more than two years (Victorian Building Authority,
2019). All of these are requirements for registration, and I have successfully met them.
Lastly, I have met all the obligations and compliance needed to be registered as Commercial
Builder – Limited. In doing so, my application letter is a notification to the Board for my
intention to register, I have indicated my address, I have provided all the building permits
required, and generally I have complied with all the obligations regarding building services as
specified by legislation (Government of Western Australia Department of Justice, 2019).
It is my believe that my vast experience and flexible skill set as a Commercial Builder have put
me in a position where I can work effectively and efficiently in the capacity of a registered CB-
