Equity and Diversity in Early Childhood Education: Celebration Project

This project examines celebrations within the context of early childhood education, focusing on equity and diversity. The assignment begins by defining and contextualizing celebrations, with specific attention to the Eid-Ul-Fitr festival, within early childhood settings. It then outlines major issues and controversies surrounding celebrations, particularly the Australian National Day. Furthermore, the project details three teaching strategies—visualization, cooperative learning, and a third unspecified strategy—that can be employed to educate children about Eid-Ul-Fitr. The project also encompasses a lesson plan designed in accordance with the Australian Human Rights Commission guidelines. Define, describe and contextualize the topic in the early childhood settings
The celebration can be conceptualized with the help of the vibrant festivals, where the people
of the country meets with the best entertainers of the world along with the storytellers,
craftsman, artists and gardeners of the country (Junus, Ismail & Arsad, 2016). On the other
hand, it can be noticed that there are also some of the important food and drinks events in the
country, which are also celebrated by most of the people at the same point of time. Within the
foods and drinks festival, the countrymen along with the groups of children also enjoys to the
fullest. Within the festival, the events which are internationally recognized are also performed
in the same manner (Ali & Akhter, 2016).
Moreover, it can be noticed that early childhood settings and the frameworks offers a unique
piece of vision and mission that helps in developing the deep experience of the small
children. It helps them in building their life and meeting their own objectives and goals of life
(Junus, Ismail & Arsad, 2016).
Major issues and controversies related with the topic
There are some of the major issues and controversies that are related with the celebration
within the Australian territory. It can be observed that at the time of celebrating the National
day of Australia, it brings different criticisms to the mentality and the hurt of the indigenous
people. The day before the celebration of National Day of the country, the opposition party of
the country denied and voiced over for protest. At the same point of time, the Australian
Council has also scraped the remarkable day and they termed the same as the insensitive day
in the history of the country. On the other hand, the Deputy Prime Minister of the country has
also rebuked to the celebration critics at the same occasion (Ali, Akhter & Ashraf, 2017).

Three teaching strategies used for addressing the topic
Three teaching strategies can be used in treating the children in case of addressing several
information regarding the Eid-Ul-Fitr. The three teaching strategies that can be implemented
on the children are described below
Visualization strategy: In case of the visualization strategy, the students of the Christian
community and the Muslim community can be taught by taking them in the Eid-Ul-Fitr
ceremony, which happens in the Ramadan month. With the help of the visualization strategy,
the students are becoming much more capable to capture the whole scenario of the Eid-Ul-
Fitr festival, where the Muslim people visits the house of their relatives and they also share
their money with the poor people (Kabir, 2015). During the Eid-Ul-Fitr festival, the
community also buys new clothes and belongingness and thus eating special foods in the
Australia. With the help of the visualization strategy, the students forget the incident during
the whole lifetime. The visualization and the practice learning experiences can be taught with
the help of the interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard is one of the important
tools, where the photos and the audios are being displayed for encouraging the students. On
the other hand, the visualization processes can be also be done with the help of the classroom
experiments and the local field trips of the students (Omar, 2016).
Cooperative Learning strategy: With the help of the cooperative learning strategies, the
students are becoming more literate in a group and thus encouraging them by mixed abilities.
The self-confidence of the students can also becoming more enhanced and thus the
communication level and the skills related to the critical thinking are envisaged with the help
of the cooperative learning strategy (Junus, Ismail & Arsad, 2016).
