Issues faced by Century mart
Lack of work life balance
It has been analyzed that lack of workplace balance is the issue that exist in the company.
Century mart does not focus on maintaining the work life balance of the employees and push
them to work by extending the working hours. The employees are pushed to work for the
overtime and also the issue that takes place relates with the management is not offering extra
wages for the extended working hours. When the working hours of the employees are extended
2

Century mart
then they are not able to give their best towards the organizational goals and objectives. In the
same way, the issue is taking place in the management (Buchheit, Dalton, Harp &
Hollingsworth, 2015).
Due to the lack of work life balance, the efficiency and productivity of the workers is hindered
and they are not able to be efficient towards the allocated activities or the operations. In the
workplace, it has been examined that workers extend their working hours still they have to join
their shift on time after working for more than hours. This affects the work life balance of the
workers and also impacts their productivity level in relation to the overall operations of the
business. There is no flexibility offered to the workers after extending their working hours and
due to this it create issue for the workers to be motivated towards the objectives of the company
(Karkoulian, Srour & Sinan, 2016).
Century mart failed to maintain the work life balance of the workers and due to this the affect has
also been seen on the growth of the business in the highly competitive market. Work life balance
issue it is important to be addressed by the management as it assists the workers to feel
dedication and motivated towards the organizational objectives. Due to lack of work life balance,
the negative effect is on the health of the workers which leads to the rise in the absentees and
also it affects the productivity of the business (Karkoulian, Srour & Sinan, 2016).
The policies of the company are also not designed in a proper manner and due to this the
employees has to face the issues in relation to the lack of work life balance. The management set
new rules and regulations whenever there is a need of the workers and just because of this the
work life balance of the employees is affected and it enhances the frustration level towards the
work assigned by the management. Therefore, it can be said that this is one of the major issue
that exist in Century mart and it is essential to consider the right step so that it can be minimized
effectively (Gilley, Waddell, Hall, Jackson, & Gilley, 2015).
Issue related to motivation
In Century mart, motivation is also the issue that is identified. The employees in the workplace
are not motivated and this is just because of the higher authority and managers. Generally, it is
seen that employees in the workplace want to do a good job but they need someone to boost their
motivational level. In Century mart, the managers failed to notice the efforts and contribution

Century mart
made by the workers. The higher authority has not focused on appreciating and motivating the
employees and due to this the workers are not motivated towards the work. There is also no
incentive procedure provided to the employees (Ketelhut & Tutwiler, 2017).
The workers in the company, has noticed that if they give their best towards the organizational
activities then also they will not be able to earn more. So, there are many employees who do not
focus on attaining the set targets as there is no effective procedure or the scheme offered by the
management to boost the motivation. The promotions are also less done by the employees that
create the feeling of demotivation among the workers. They are not emphasized towards some
specified goals of the company and it also affects the overall success ratio of the business in the
competitive market (Ketelhut & Tutwiler, 2017).
It has also been identified that one of the issue behind lack of motivation is the salary offered to
the workers. The salary offered is not attractive and it creates dissatisfaction among the workers
in relation to their work. Salary is one of the important factors that induce the employees to be
efficient and dedicated towards the work (Le Vay & Cuschieri, 2016). So, it is necessary for the
management to emphasize on boosting the motivation so that dedication level can be maintained.
The other challenge faced by the employees at the time of working is related with the overburden
of the work. If management does not think from the perspective of the employees then it
enhances the dissatisfaction among the workers. The employees feel pressurize due to the work
assigned by the management and it results in the overall demotivation among the staff members.
There are many employees who stated that management does not emphasize on considering the
nature of work allocated by the higher authority. Feeling undervalued is also the factor that is
analyzed after emphasizing on the overall working system of the company. The managers and
higher authority do not appreciate and recognize the employees and due to this dissatisfaction
and demotivation among the employees enhanced (Ketelhut & Tutwiler, 2017).So, this issue
should be managed by the organization for maintaining the overall functions of the business.
Interpersonal issue
In Century mart interpersonal issue is the problem that exists in the workplace. It is analyzed that
employees gets frustrated and also interfere in the work of the other employees. The staff faces
the challenge of clarifying their doubts with the higher authority. Hierarchy issue is the major
4
Document Page
Century mart
problem that takes place and in this employees have no clarity in relation to the overall working
pattern. They have no idea that to whom they have to contact to bring clarity in the working
structure of the organization. Due to lack of clarity, the employees are not able to efficient and
dedicated towards the allocated work given by the management. Due to hierarchy issue, the
employees have no idea in context to control the functions of the business. There is no work
allocated to the employees and it creates confusion among the workers at the time of
approaching to the higher authority (Anicich, Fast, Halevy & Galinsky, 2015).
It is examined that when employees face the issue in relation to work or if they want any
clarification they have no idea to whom they should contact and it adversely affect the overall
growth of the business. When the employees are not clear about the work then the issue takes
place in relation to clarification in the work. The issue faced by the employees is that there are no
higher authorities on the floor and it creates confusion for them when they face at the time of
working. Because of lack of clarity in the working procedure the conflict between the employees
often takes place in the workplace which also creates demotivation in context to the
organizational operations (Gilin Oore, Leiter & LeBlanc, 2015).
When the employees are not able to be efficient towards the work then they have the feeling of
spoiling the work of the other employees who are focusing towards the goals of the organization.
Therefore, it can be seen that in Century mart inter personal conflict among the employees not
only impact the productivity but also negatively affect the morale of the other staff members.
The company should consider the effective method so that conflict can be resolved in the
workplace (Leon-Perez, Medina, Arenas & Munduate, 2015). So, Century mart should focus on
reducing the conflict among the employees as it can affect the efficiency of the workers towards
accomplishing the set targets.
Lack of training
It is also considered as the major issue that takes place in Century mart. In relation to this, it is
examined that higher authority failed to offer on the job training to the employees that has
affected the performance level of the workers. The staff members did not received the proper on
the job training which has affected the efficiency of the employees towards task. To work at the
actual place where the operations are conducted and to work in the training center is considered
as the different methods that impact the overall operations of the business. Initially, the company
5
Document Page
Century mart
has the process of giving six month training in the training center and if the employees are
capable enough then only they are transferred to the actual workplace. After giving training for
the six months, the employees are sent to the workplace but after the transfer also the employees
face the issue of managing the work. On the actual workplace, the employees face the issue of
training as there are no leaders or the managers who are available to guide the employees (Hou
Fan, Tan, Hua & Valdez, 2018).
The training given by the higher authority is not so effective and the management fails in
explaining about the nature of work. The employees face the issue at the time of doing the job
with dedication and efficiency (Bertram, Moskaliuk & Cress, 2015).In Century mart, the tools
and techniques used by the management is not so effective, so it is important to focus on giving
proper training to the employees so that efficiency and dedication level of the workers can be
enhanced. Century mart has the agenda, that they will not guide the employees when they will
join the actual workplace. Lack of training in company affect the change management process
and it is analyzed that at the time of managing the change, the training is one of the issue that
takes place in the workplace (Czaja & Sharit, 2016).
Due to lack of training the employees resist the change made by the management and it enhances
the issue for the higher authority at the time of implementing the changes in the business.
Therefore, it can be stated that training given by the management is not so effective and there is a
need to consider the strategies that can assist the employees to have proper knowledge in relation
to the activities performed in the business. Therefore, training should be provided to the workers
so that they can control the functional operations of the business in the competitive market
(Chukwu, 2016).
Recommendations
Flexible timings
It is recommended that management should emphasize on offering flexibility in timings to the
employees so that they can easily maintain their work life balance. If flexibility in the timing is
offered to the workers then they can also work for the extra time without any resistance. The
policy or the scheme should be designed by the workers in which the employees who are
working for the extra time should be offered extra pay or the amount of per day, so that positivity

among the employees can be created. If flexible timing procedure is followed then can help the
workers to maintain their work life balance and also it will assist the employees to complete their
task with dedication and efficiency. One of the major advantages that will be for the employees
relates with the flexibility to meet the personal and family needs (Lindsey, King, Hebl & Levine,
2015).
The employees are free to work during the hours that fit their energy cycle in the best way. If the
employees are allowed to come according to their preference then it will help them to boost their
efficiency towards the task assigned by the management. When the issue arises in the workplace,
then it is the problem for the employers as well. So, if flexibility timing strategy is offered to the
employees then it will directly enhance the morale of the workers and also boost the image of the
company. When the employees manage their work life balance then they are confident towards
their work and directly it also enhances their overall capability towards the organizational
operations. It is recommended to Century mart, that if they consider this strategy or if flexible
timings are maintained then it will also enhance the feeling of personal control over schedule ad
working environment. So, the company should allow the employees to come according to
themselves so that they can feel positivity towards their nature of work. By considering this
strategy, the overall goals can also be attained of the company (Posner, Rothbart & Tang, 2015).
It is important for the management to create in a chart in which the employee login in and log out
time should be noted. It is the best strategy that can help the employees to have idea about their
time spend in the workplace. The company should allow the employees to join the office anytime
but it is important to set the policy that in which it should be stated that the employees should
complete the login of 9 to 10 hours (Posner, Rothbart & Tang, 2015). If this strategy is
considered then it will be beneficial for the employer and also for the workers to achieve growth
in the competitive market. Therefore, it can be said that this can help in resolving the issue
related to lack of work life balance.
Recognition programs
It is important for the management or the higher authority of Century mart, to focus on setting
the recognition programs. It is one of the best ways that can help to boost the motivational level
of the workers and also it will help in encouraging them towards the goals and objectives of the
company. When the work of the employees is valued, then their satisfaction and productivity

level enhances and also it will help in motivating the workers in relation to improving their work.
Praising and recognition is essential for the outstanding company and if the people are respected
then they will contribute more towards the organizational goals and objectives. On the monthly
basis, the best employee should be rewarded as it will help in boosting the interest of the workers
towards the organizational framework. If on the monthly basis, the employees are rewarded then
it would be easy for the workers to be efficient towards the organizational activities and also the
employees will try to be efficient and dedicated towards the goals to attain the recognition award
by the management (Mulki, Jaramillo, Goad & Pesquera, 2015). So, recognition is the best way
to motivate the workers in relation to the operational functions of business.
Rewards and incentives
It is important for the higher authority to emphasize on rewarding and incentives schemes so that
motivational level of the employees can be boosted. Monetary incentives if offered to the
employees can improve the performance and productivity of workers. The incentive system is
important to be introduced by Century mart in the workplace as it creates friendly competition
between the employees in relation to the performance of the job. The monetary rewards also
motivate the workers to produce optimally. The monetary incentives that should be offered to the
workers should emphasize on the stock options, profit sharing plans and also bonuses. The
monetary incentives consist of annual and semiannual bonuses such as mid-year and end of the
year rewards. If the overall incentive system is offered then it could offer friendly competition
between the employees at the time of linking with the job performance (Smith, Dass, Dillon &
Long, 2018).
It is also necessary for the management to emphasize on considering the motivational theory
such as Maslow hierarchy of needs theory. It is considered as the best theory that can help in
boosting the motivational level of the workers towards the assigned work. There are five needs in
relation to this model that is important to be considered so that employees can be motivated
towards the organizational goals and objectives. The first stage in this model is physiological
needs that emphasizes on the basic needs of the workers. It is analyzed that this is the need is
required for the survival of the human and also it helps the employees to be satisfied in relation
to the overall work of the organization. The next stage is safety needs that emphasizes on
different factors such as security, law and stability. It is important for the management to
8
Document Page
Century mart
emphasize on securing the job of the employees so that employees can be efficient towards the
overall goals of the business. If these are fulfilled then employees can be motivated and can
create positivity towards the organizational functions (Silverman, Jarvis, Jessel & Lopez, 2016).
The third stage is love and belongingness needs that emphasizes on the trust and friendship that
should be maintained among the employees. If the employees in the workplace have trust and
friendship then it would be easy for them to feel motivated towards the organizational functions.
So, it is necessary for the management to create trust among the employees so that they can have
positive mindset towards functions of the business. The fourth stage of motivation is esteem
needs in which the emphasis is on dignity, status and prestige. The management should give
respect to the workers so that it could be easy to retain the employees towards the operations. If
respect and reputation is maintained of the workers then it will help to create positivity in the
mind of the employees in context to the routine activities. They will feel happy and also
dedicated towards the organizational framework (Ushioda & Dörnyei, 2017).
The last stage is self-actualization needs in which it is important for the higher authority to focus
on the personal growth and experience of the workers so that they can be capable towards the
organizational tasks assigned by the management. The overall stages of this model should be
maintained by the managers in the workplace as it can help in motivating the employees to
perform better in relation to the task or the work allocated to them. Rewards and incentives can
also be offered by emphasizing on the model that can encourage the employees towards business
(Ravenswood & Harris, 2016). Therefore, it can be stated that this is the best way that can help
to reduce the problem of lack of motivation in the workplace.
Proper chain of command
The management of Century mart should emphasize on maintaining the proper chain of
command or it can be said that there should be proper hierarchy. If there is proper hierarchy then
it can help the employees to clear their doubts with the management. It can be said that the
higher authority should focus on giving promotion to the people and should give them position
related to manager or leader of the different departments. The leaders and managers should be
appointed in the company so that it could be easy for the employees to approach their leaders or
the managers and clarify their doubts. The hierarchy can also define the overall growth of the
business (Dobbin & Kalev, 2016).

If the hierarchy of the company is proper then it can help in boosting the working capacity of the
workers towards the functional activities of the business. The employees can get the direction if
proper hierarchy is maintained by the company and also they will get support in relation to the
overall activities of the business. So, appointing of leaders or the team leaders should be
considered by the Century mart so that employees can get guidance at the time of working in the
workplace. If the management of Century mart emphasize on maintaining the hierarchy then
inter personal conflict in the workplace can be reduced and also the employees will focus on
maintaining coordination with their colleagues (Zusho & Kumar, 2018). The conflict among the
employees should be controlled and it can be easily done by managing the organizational work.
Therefore, it is essential for the higher authority to emphasize on maintaining the proper chain of
command so that employees can be motivated towards the organizational work. This can also be
the effective method that can create positivity in the mind of the employees and can also
encourage them to work efficiently.
Mentoring
To resolve the issue concerned with lack of training, it is essential for the higher management to
focus on giving mentoring and coaching to the employees. Mentoring is known as the system of
guidance that can help one person to share their knowledge and skills with the other person. This
is one of the effective methods for the people who are suffering from the issue of training.
Through mentoring the workers can emphasize on sharing the knowledge and skills that can help
to achieve progress in the lives and careers of the people (Menges, 2016). Mentoring is also
known as the relation in whom the experience person assists to give guidance to the people who
are less experienced or knowledgeable.
This can also be considered as the buddy system that should be considered by the management as
it will help the new joiner to manage their overall work in the workplace. With this system, the
employees who require support can easily manage their work and can also attain the targets set
by the company. So, it can be said that mentoring system is one of the best approach that can
assist the workers to be motivated towards the functional goals of the business (Balven, Fenters,
Siegel & Waldman, 2018).
