When the term “New South” is referred to the readers of the essay itself, they are of
the opinion that the New South refers to a slogan in the American democracy after the year
1877. This period has been used by the reformers to call it as a mode of modernization for the
period and the society to reject the roles of the old America and accept the new era and its
challenges. It can be said that the African Americans living in the New South region had to
face a lot of challenges during the American Industrial era itself.
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the challenges faced by the African
Americans during the Industrial period of America itself.
The African Americans had to face a number of challenges during the period of
Industrialization in the region of New South. The major challenge was that of the racial
problems which they had to endure (Wacquant, 2013). Thus is because the black people were
beaten and tortured by the white Americans. In addition to this, they were not allowed to get
good jobs in the industries as the white skinned Americans occupied most of the posts
themselves (Myrdal, 2013).
One example of the racial issue which the black people had to face was the lynching
of Laura and Lawrence Nelson in Oklahoma in the year 1911.This was a serious issue in the
country because it had attracted widespread media attention to the incident (DuBois, 2017).
Therefore, from the above information, it can be concluded that the best way to help a
particular group dealing with economic change and the barriers of the society is to help them
tom overcome the problem. This can be done by providing them with the best educational
and employment opportunities so that they would get jobs and able to overcome the
challenges. Only then the group would be able to become a part of the society itself.
