Project
AI Summary
This project addresses the challenges of future internet design for the Internet of Things (IoT). It begins by outlining the problem domain, noting the exponential increase in connected devices and the limitations of current server-client based IoT networks. The purpose of the project is to propose a future internet design for IoT, overcoming limitations such as the lack of standard technology and protocols. The theoretical framework introduces the Social Organization Framework (SOF) and Man-Like Nervous (MLN) models for managing nodes and data distribution. The methodology involves researching previous works, analyzing challenges, and using questionnaires to inform the design of a better IoT structure, while also considering ethical issues and compliance requirements. The project plan includes a work breakdown structure, risk analysis, and a Gantt chart. The conclusion emphasizes the need for a heterogeneous network design to enhance security and avoid vulnerabilities, particularly focusing on the network layer and the sensitive nature of IoT data. The project aims to contribute to a more robust and secure IoT network architecture.

Rationale Domain
a) Problem domain
IoT helps in connecting various devices and objects
using technology such that they can interact with
each other through internet
Current network of IoT are server-client based
model
Main problem in IoT is the configuration of
connected devices is increasing exponentially
2
Document Page
b) Purpose and Justification
Main purpose is proposing future internet design for IoT
Various limitations in previous work of creating IoT
environment are;
o There is no standard technology used in development
of IoT applications
o Most standard protocol is not used in IoT applications
To overcome these, there is need to create a IoT device
capable of supporting heterogenous networks. Though there is
an increase in IoT devices, there is a critical problem in the
network architecture (Uckelmann, Harrison& Michahelles,
2011)

Recommendation
Project manager needs to propose IoT internet
design which is heterogeneous in nature
Network should be capable of handling previous
challenges

Research
Questions
1. Which challenges are faced by the previous IoT design
architecture?
2. Which criteria seems to be more important for selecting
the future internet design of IoT?
3. To compare all the techniques for the heterogeneity
technologies used in designing IoT

Theoretical framework
a) Problem domain
Two network models were proposed.
Social Organization framework (SOF) model
Man-Like Nervous (MLN) model
Social Organizational Framework (SOF) model
Comprises of Industrial IoT, local IoT and national IoT.
This model helps to manage nodes in a particular
location.
Man-Like Nervous (MLN) model
Similar to reverse tree, Sensors are located at low level
in the model and work as distributed node sending data
towards the centralized node

Future IoT networks will be based on Wireless
Sensor Network (WSN) technology. Here nodes
are deployed in adhoc manner (Lee, Bae & Kim,
2017)

Methodology
1. Research and System Development Methods
Architectural approach provided in this research is based
on an open architecture structure and is known as the
EPC Global network.
2. Data collection and system design methods
I will be studying previous research papers, books, blogs
and various websites. I’ll analyze earlier challenges that
faced IoT designs. Questionaire will be used for survey
to understand previous problems in the IoT design and
questions will be used to design IoT structure better

5. Data analysis
Data of all previous problems having various security
issues are to be analyzed to find out the technique that
will help in overcoming challenges of designing IoT
network.
Current network is based on service provider but in the
future it will be based on device’s location.

Project plan
1. Conclusion
This research is more focused towards the network
layer. I have analyzed various IoT network designs,
based on this analysis have proposed a
methodology for the work. IoT data seems to be
very sensitive in nature. Leaking of the data can
make the system to be vulnerable for attacks. So as
to avoid this issue, I will support the heterogenous
network design for the IoT
