What are the main challenges for foreign companies in doing business in China?
There are some of the main challenges that are encountered by foreign companies at the time of
doing business in China. One of the challenges relates to market access. In this, it has been
observed that local distribution networks, buying habits of the customers and the regulatory
requirement has made China a difficult market to do business. The market environment is
detached from the other economies of the world. It is estimated that 37% of the products that are
passed from the market of the US has failed to conduct the activities in the market of China. The
next challenge is related to the preference of the customers. From the past few decades, it has
been analyzed that there is a sizeable shift in China and the environment of the customer is more
diverse. It is detached from the markets and also there are organizations that have sunk in China
only because they are not capable enough to meet the demand and preference of the customers
(Tung, 2016).
Bureaucracy can also be known as the challenges that are faced by foreign companies as they
have to struggle with the laws and regulations prevailing in the market of China. There are many
organizations who complained that they fail difficulty in considering the required licenses and
permits which create challenges in managing the operations. Next is the governmental challenge
in which the major concern relates to the government procedure and corruption rate that are
faced by the companies who want to enter the China market. In China, there are rules set which
states how the products should be designed, manufactured or sold in China. Before entering into
the market it is important to comply with these all rules in relation to the products. This can be
considered as a foreign proceeding to the different companies and can affect the appeal of the
country (Hitt and Xu, 2016).
Administration, licensing and product approvals can enhance the managerial work. There are
many companies, who have to face the challenge related to overcoming the bureaucratic hassle
in successfully breaking the market of China. Also, the foreign companies have to face the
challenge related with human resources in that it can be analyzed that the demand for the trained,
professional labor is still outstripping the supply (Gupta and Bhaskar, 2016). So, it can be
concluded that companies face difficulty in retaining the best staff in China. Therefore, it can be
said that these are the challenges that are faced by foreign companies.
