INTRODUCTION
A student go through several challenges when they go to the university and it is essential
for them to understand that challenges as that will help them in developing strategies for
overcome it (Cottrell, 2019). Through this a student also able to enhance their skills, abilities and
knowledge in effective and successful manner which help them in develop bright career in
future. The main aim of conducting this report is to understand challenges faced by students in
university. Topics described in report are challenges which student’s experiences when they go
to the university as well as it will also include recommendations that will help them in
overcoming it properly.
MAIN BODY
Determine and evaluate some of the main challenges that students experience when they start
university.
Study at University is considered as important phase of students life because at that place
they able to learn many things as well as they also able to enhance their skills, abilities and
knowledge in successful manner. At university students also go through or experiences several
challenges which impact on their studies as well as performance or grade. Effectively study at
the university help a student in developing successful and impressive career by getting dream job
in the ideal company. In addition to this, there are several challenges faced by a student when
they start university, from which some of the most common challenges are explained below:-
Time management: It is one of the main challenge which is faced by a student who
started its education at the university because they not able to manage their time in
proper manner (Duong, Wu and Hoang, 2019). This is generally take place because
students not able to understand who to priorities their work so that they can attain their
desire goal of enhancing performance effectively. Students also not understand how to
analyze time after their classes at the university.
Spreading self too thin: According to this challenge student not able to understand
things when they start university they want to conduct each and every activity in one day
which impact on their performance. Due to this challenge or issue they also not able to

get enough sleep which impact on their performance and day to day class room activities.
Along with this it will also lead to physical as well as mental problems that impact on the
student’s health and performance.
Feeling of homesickness: This is one of the most common challenges which are faced
by almost each and every student when they visit university for the first time as well as it
strike student very hard (Greetham, 2019). It is generally take place because student not
able to see and communicate with their parents on regular basis because of their classes
and other activities. Moreover it also takes place because students miss their home food
because mess food is totally different.
Depression: Among the student who starts their university this is common challenge as
when they come to university their life get change and they feel pressure which enhances
their stress level as well as leads to depression situation. Due to depression students not
able to concentrate on their studies as well as it will also lead to decrease in their
performance at the class and exam. Some time situation of depression lead to suicide
attempt among the students.
Social problems: There are generally two types of students introvert and extrovert. For
extrovert student it is easy to make new friends so when they come to university they can
easily make new friends at class, mess and hostel. On the other hand it is hard for
introvert students to make new friends due to which when they change the place or come
to university they feel difficulties in interacting with others. Due to this student face
major challenge as they able to share their feeling, thoughts and issues along with others.
Health or sickness condition: In the starting time of university students are very excited
and they want to enjoy their life freely due to which there is lack of sleep take place.
Along with this, in some students when they enter into university they feel high stress of
getting good grads due to these issues health related problems occur which lead to risk of
life (Kneale, 2019). Moreover, this challenge also leads to decrease in performance as
well as effectiveness of students due to which their grads get decreased.
High education cost: In today’s time tuition cost are increasing at high rate and that
increase cost of education for students. Moreover this will also include cost of other
factors like meal, transportation, textbooks and many more due to which budgets of
students get increased. This is also one the most common as well as big challenge for

students and their family because educational cost getting high and expensive. Due to
this students also need to conduct job along with their studies which also impact on their
studies or performance.
Pressure of study: Around the world most of the students are paying their education
expenses by themselves so they have pressure on them for getting good grades so that
they can get best job with high package (Rogaten and et. al., 2019). Even the students are
not their expenses they still have massive social as well as educational repercussion of
not succeeding in their studies. Due to this pressure student face difficulties and their
performance get decreased which lead to depression situations as well as health issues.
Find new and trustable friends: In new place it is difficult to make new friends who
understand each other properly. This is generally take place because at university there
are different types of students who belong to different culture and interest so it is difficult
to find a proper fried of common interest. This is considered as major challenge for the
introverts students because they not able to interact with others so easy due to which they
feel lonely and depressed.
Adjustment with new life: It is difficult for every individual to get adjust into new life
similarly in the situation of students them also experiences several challenges when they
came to university for the first time. For adjusting in environment of university students
need to understand situation which is time taking and during that time student feel
depressed and lonely at the university.
These are some of the most common challenges which are faced by a student when they
start their university life and it is essential for them to understand these challenges in order to
overcome it effectively.
Provide recommendations which help students to overcome challenges at university.
For every student it is necessary to understand challenges which they are facing or
experiencing at the university because through that they can develop proper strategies or plan for
overcome it effectively (Sin, Tavares and Amaral, 2019). There are several recommendations for
the students which help them in overcoming issues or challenges successfully as well as that will
also help in improving their performance effectively. From which some of main recommendation
for students are given below:-

For students who start university it is essential to conduct communication with their
family, friends and relatives on regular basis because through that they not feel lonely.
Along with this it is also necessary to share every day activities with them including
issues so that family, friends or relatives can provide them solutions properly.
Student must expect their studies to be harder than it is before as well as at the same time
they should focus more on the learning instead of getting a good grade (Virtanen and
Tynjälä, 2019). This is so because that will help them in developing their skills,
knowledge and abilities which automatically leads to increase in grads and rank in class.
For every student it is necessary that they must find proper and effective way for
avoiding mental anxiety as that will help them in leaving their life happy as well as it will
also encourage enhancing skills, abilities and knowledge effectively. Along with this,
students also need to focuses on their study and other activities as that will help them in
leaving university life properly.
For students it is necessary to conduct time management properly and for that it is
essential that student must develop a proper timetable or routine and accordingly they
conduct their work (Zainuddin and et. al., 2019). This is so because that will help them in
understanding how to priorities activities according to situation.
CONCLUSION
By analyzing above discussed point it can be evaluate and summarize that a student g
through numbers of challenges when to start university as well as it is essential for them to
develop strategies or plan for overcoming it effectively. This is so because through that they able
to enhance their skills, knowledge and abilities to face each and every situation effectively.
Along with this, it will also help them in developing bright as well as successful career. In
addition to this, challenges which are generally experienced by a student are related to finance,
behavior of others and many more.
