Introduction
Learning and Organization growth plays an important role in the life of a student and that of a
professional. Change is constant, and so is growing with time. This change has to be
incorporated into every aspect of our growth. At the student level, working in teams is
essential and so is maintaining the enthusiasm of the team (Zimmer, 2019). As a team
member, I have understood that equal participation is essential because it not only adds
greatly to the success and the efficiency of the team but also ensures that there are less
friction and difference of understanding in the team because of such issues.
This essay will deal with understanding managing change and organization in a team based
set-up and how various factors and theories actively take part in this. The essay will highlight
all the relevant theories and activities that were a part of the group project, the active
participation of all the members, the general conduct of the team and how well we fared. In
the end, the essay will focus on the growth our team obtained and the lessons learnt.
Team Work
Teamwork is an important and effective approach to attaining the goals and aims of the
organizations. In a dynamic work environment such as that of today, teamwork is an essential
necessity which cannot be compromised upon any circumstances (Webb, 2017). Teamwork
not only helps in improving the performance or focussing on an individual as well as inter-
personal growth, but it also builds empathy in people as well. When people work in a team, it
is quite observed that then they are more likely to develop emotional intelligence and
empathy as well. These two skills are essential because they greatly affect the likability and
the trustability of the person as well.
, however, does not just comprise of people working together in unison and harmony, but it
also comprises of situations where the people have to spontaneously manage some
unforeseen situations or delegate work as well. work delegation is an important task of
teamwork as it involves strategic thinking and dividing the work to the people based on their
ability, efficiency and interest in order to get the best possible returns (McFarlin, 2018). The

end task is to attain the major goal of the team, and for that, nothing but the best of efforts
have to be put into it.
This reflective essay will describe my own experience while I worked in a team of five for
our project, this essay will reflect on all the relevant team theories and will also discuss the
day-to-day happening of the business/project and how it has affected the final outcomes as
well. When a lot of different people work together, differences are bound to happen, and this
reflective essay will cover how these differences will affect the overall functioning of the
team under diverse circumstances (Schindle, 2018). The purpose of the essay is, to focus on
the problems faced by each of the team member and how it affected the team in an overall
manner.
Also, in this personal essay, I shall be linking my personal experiences and reflections over
various incidents mentioned in it. I have learnt a lot from this exercise, and I believe this
reflective essay is the best way to put it into words for a better understanding of my situation.
The success or failure of the group will also be presented so that I can better comprehend my
contributions and if I really am a good team player or if it is just my belief to be so.
Analysis of Group Dynamic
The group formed for this particular presentation task was made by students chosen
randomly. To protect privacy and integrity, let these members be named as B and C me being
A. Working with different unknown people is always a little awkward, and so was this time
as well. our team was extremely diverse. We had people from so many diverse brains at
work. the point of view and the approach to solving problems was different for everyone, and
this was both advantageous and a problem at the same time (Horwitz & Horwitz, 2012).
Hence, initially, we decided to work on breaking the ice and getting to know each other better
so that such awkward situations do no hold us back when the work has started.
Communication is another essential factor of a well-functioning, and we collectively agreed
that the team has to always clearly communicate with each other to ensure that this does not
become a problem anytime soon (Sime, 2019). Hence, communication was sorted. Next was
the discussion. A subsection of communication, but important I observed that discussions in
our team turned into heated arguments quickly and one was quite ready to understand the

other side easily. Hence, we decided on doing certain activities to ensured that when
discussions happen, the person speaking is given his full time to speak and make his or her
point, then the other members take the discussion ahead over that point (if needed). This was
quite a good idea as I saw that by the end of the project, the feuds and fights had gone down
to a bare minimum and people were actually discussing quite politely with each other to
ensure that they do not fight over small issues, and were able to amicably solve them out.
This was a welcome change in the team (Güver & Motschnig, 2017)
The team took a decent start to the current situation. On the first, all of us were present and
we properly understood to each and everything that the tutor had told us. We all understood
the topic well, and later on, in our first actual meeting, discussed the given topic and how we
will divide the workload as well. Here, the work delegation theory came into effect. I
suggested a simple method as per this theory. I said, that we should take up work according
to our interest and efficiency, but equally (Sengul, Gimeno, & Dial, 2012). While it took us
an hour to finally decide the topic, it was actually worth all the effort that we put into it all of
us had tasks which we not only liked and enjoyed, but we also found it quite helpful for our
team as well. once the work was decided, all of then prepared a schedule timeline to discuss
how and when the work is to be presented and how we have to manage the deadlines with our
other classes and work as well. This was done in another 30 minutes and we were ready with
our one-week deadline for the first draft of the project as well.
So far everything was going good. We were constantly making progress however, the issue of
communication starting coming up. The team was constantly fighting because of the diversity
in their thought and action. While we all tried a lot to ensure that we spoke clearly to each
other and did not meddle into fights, it was really inevitable on our part. There were fights on
very small reasons because of which the entire energy of the team went down as well. there
was a patch, on the fifth day itself where no one was even talking in the team, the group chats
were also rude and so much more. It was not a good sign and I knew that if things are not
rectified now, they will only get worse with time. Similarly, this has also been mentioned in
the review of literature that group diversity is often a determinant of how problematic the
interaction is going to be and how it is important to be managed at the earliest priority
(Yeager, 2012). Having sorted this issue, it is likely that the team can then work on other
problems which they are battling as well. but the priority was to talk this out. Diversity can be
an effective tool is it is managed properly. After all, who wants a bland team that thinks on

the same line. It is I because of diversity and diverse personal experiences of the people that
the scope of innovation and creativity remains an integral part of the team and their practices.
However, this difference of thought should be practised with caution and should not be
turned into a difference of opinion. Hence, the best way is to make all the members of the
group understand that they are just as important and that their opinion holds just as much
value as that of the others (Gervits, Eberhard, & Scheutz, 2016). This made the task easy to
some extent. I sat the entire team down and took this situation up. After a lot of awkward
stare and glances, and a long silence, the other teammates finally started to understand what
my intention was and how it was important for our group project as well. there was barely
any scope of problems and issues left as the deadline was nearing and we still had a lot of
work to do. Hence, it became essential at this point (Mohanty, 2016)m
Motivation is the next important thing which even the review of literature takes into
consideration. Motivating the team members constantly is essential because they are only
humans, and like everyone else, they need some external stimuli and a level of approval to
know if they are working hard enough and in the right way. It is essential to note this because
it took a hard time for me to motivate myself (PARK, SPITZMULLER, & DESHON, 2017).
There were several situations where I felt extremely low and I complete was at the verge of
giving up as well. at this point, my team members motivated me a lot and made me feel that I
was just as essential to the team as the rest of them. There is nothing else that can burn out
the team more than a demotivated team member. Hence, from that I point onwards I made it a
point to remember that I shall in no way let myself be demotivated because of any reason.
Hence, I started being more aware of my behaviour and how it is impacting the morale of the
team as well. this helped us to bond better with each other and complete our respective tasks
on time as well.
Analysis of the Group Behaviour and Group Success or Failure
The group had performed satisfactorily in general. While there were some obvious
differences in the group arising out of cultural diversity and failure of communication, these
issues were sorted in a nice manner and eventually the team got hang of each other. it became
natural of us to understand each other.

However, there were some serious issues other than just communication which resulted in our
fights. Member B was always late for all the meetups and was running far behind his
schedule. This was not at all acceptable and we warned him a lot of his actions. But when we
saw that he still showed no improvement, we finally told him that if he continues to be like
this, we will report his behaviour and lack of contribution to the professor.
After this, the efficiency of the group improved and we sorted out our difference in an
amicable manner. Conflicts are bound to arise in a team, and it is important to ensure that
they are rectified as soon as possible.
Though there was a lot of scope of improvement, I feel that the group could only give 70% of
their potential, I included. But nonetheless, we were able to come up with a very good
presentation and worked hard on it. We were all happy with our effort by the end.
Conclusion
From this activity, I concluded that group work is a difficult and complex process and has to
be taken care of. When diverse minds meet, it is not easy to manage the situation, and hence,
a lot of strategic planning is needed. Here, communication and motivation are key players as
well. As a team, it is essential to look after these two aspects of the functioning as well.
