Task 1
Explain the key factors that drive change in health and social care services as applied to the
case scenario.
There are various types of factors involved in the change process of a health and social care
services. These factors also include different types of strategies and managerial skills. The
management of the health and social care services needs to provide more attention to the
community based living from the residential care(Scriven and Garman, 2012). According to the
case scenario, Denise is the manager of the Local Action for the Disabled who needs to manage
the whole change process for her management board, staffs and service users. The local authority
made a decision and issued a change which replaces the residential care to supported living. The
management of Local Action for the Disabled also needs to focus that, during and after change
implementation process, an employee needs to control his/her emotion and feelings. In other
words, most of the employees of Local Action for the Disabled strongly think that the residential
care is a safer place rather than the supported living resident. The society is based on local
community policies and regulation. So, according to the local authority, the supported living will
be more beneficial than residential care. Different people have the different psychology which
critically separates the intellectual thoughts from each other in people. The concept of the
independent and supported community-based living was failed earlier because the families and
residents made the objection against the decision and the plan of Local Action for the Disabled
was unsuccessful(Brown, 2009). In other words, the people of the residents strongly felt that this

is not a good idea or concept for providing better care and services to the individuals. Besides
that, the manager of Local Action for the Disabled has been asked by her manager that, the
homes needs to be closed and need to ensure hazardless perfect accommodation due to the
change from resident care to supported community-based living for the residents. The manager
of Local Action for the Disabled also was strongly advised to dominate and as much as possible
avoid the negative publicity which based on closure issue of the homes and moving towards
community-based living for the residents.
The manager of Local Action for the Disabled who was Denise includes lots of responsibility
and duties in order to organise and manage the change process properly. In terms of customer
satisfaction or improvement of patient’s health condition, both are critically depend on the living
environment. The support of the community-based living of residents has not a solid structure.
On the other hand, Local Action for the Disabled tried earlier in order to move forward and make
the residential care to community-based living for residents, but the families and residents made
the objection against the decision and the plan of Local Action for the Disabled was
unsuccessful. In other words, the people of the residents strongly felt that this is a bad idea or
concept for providing better care and services to the individuals(Wolfelt, 2013).
The challenges that key factors of change bring to health and social care services
The key factors of change can be described in many ways concerning the situation and the
present stage of the organization. It is to be said that the change in the organization depends on
many incidents that unpleased the management of the organization as well as the people who are
using the servitude of the organization (Bassi et al., 2010).

Lack of Satisfaction: The people who are using the servitude of the organization must be
satisfied with the service. Otherwise they would want to change the service. In this case the
managers of the organization would want to change the process of giving the service. Anyhow
the satisfaction level of the people sometimes decides whether service needs any change or not.
Organizational failure: If the organizations are not able to provide proper service to the people
then it can be said that the organization needs a few changes in order to get back in track. In the
case study it has been seen that the employees and the workers of the LAD were not able to
satisfy the patients and the family of the patients where they decided to change the residents.
Overlook the Priorities: The patients must be provided with priorities they deserve according. It
is to be said that the patients who have been using the servitude of LAD have made many
complains that the independence they deserve was not there to be taken. LAD has taken all the
independence of them and has restricted them within a set of rules just to meet their
organizational targets.
Lack of efficiency: The management of the organization sometimes gets complains that there
are inefficient employees in the organization. These employees or the workers have not delivered
the desired service to the customers. In the case study it is clear according to the point of view of
the local community that the workers of LAD have made many mistakes in order to restrict the
patients within their rules and regulations. It is to be said that this is not the exact process to treat
a disable patien (D. A. Hadfield, 2013)t.
So these are the challenges an organization faces depending on which the organizational changes
are made. It is to be said that the changes are very much needed according the customers or the
patients point view. They deserve a proper service as being a part of the society.

Task 2
Strategies and criteria for measuring the recent changes in health and social care
There has been the change in the local community as far as the health care is concerned. Local
Action for the Disabled is the local health care organization that gives servitude to the local
residencies. The service is mainly for the disable persons or the other persons those are with
learning disabilities. Denies is the manager of LAD and has been giving the servitude to the local
community for many years. Now the situation has come to the point where the local authority
has decided to move the people from residential care to supported living. The supported living is
the approach that is mainly considered to be the independent life of the disable people. There are
many ways through which the measurement of the recent change in health care can be done.
In the first stages the psychological facts of the patients and their family has to be
understood. It has been seen that LAD has been effectively giving their servitude to the
disable patients in the most effective way (Demirtaş, Özdemir and Küçük, 2016). It was the
position where the patients were under the rules and the regulations of the workers of the
organization. After the community decided to take the patients away from the
surveillance of LAD, it can be understood that the patients are demanding to have an
independent lives. This tells us the story about the decision to move from LAD to
supported living.
The old and conventional behavior of the health workers and the old mannerism to take
care of the patients has made the local community taking the decision to leave the local
community. The facilities and the accommodation of supported living have influenced
the patients and their family in the biggest way. That is why they have decided to change
the residents of the patients in order to give them different life styles.

The other services except health care that the LAD has been giving, has affected the
patients and their family in many ways. The services were not satisfying and they felt that
they were in some kinds of restriction. This has made them to take decision against the
favor of LAD.
There were many people in the community those were attracted with the service and the
accommodation of supported living. They were very keen to know the details of the
accommodation and that is why they finally managed to shift their position from LAD to
supported living.
These are the aspects and the measurement of why the people decided to change their residents.
In this scenario the change in the social health care can also be known. The patients who are
being in the servitude of the social health care sometimes get affected by the service of the
organizations. That is the point where the patients and their family decide to change the
servitude. In many cases it has been seen that the social health care organizations have taken the
total control of the lives of the patients. They have given many kinds of restrictions to them. The
organizations have done these kinds of activities just to fulfill their targets. The service and the
process of making the treatment is not always good and that is why the patients sometimes feel
that they are not in good hand as far as the treatment is concerned. This is why the changes in the
social health care environment are needed.
The impact of recent change in health and social care
Depending on the scenario of the project it can be said that there are many impacts of recent
change in the health and social care. The patients who were under the surveillance of the LAD

patients found that the decision was effective enough as far as the life styles are concerned.
There are few impacts of the change in the social health care. They are as follows,
The main impact is that the patients, who were under the surveillance of LAD, are now
under better diagnosis process under a better management team. The patients are happier
with the servitude of supported living.
The patients of the have got a new independent lives where they can live freely and
without any restriction. The patients will live freely while being under the surveillance. It
is the main thing that has affected the patients in a positive way (DeNisco and Barker,
2013).
The homes of the patients have been closed and the employees, who have been giving the
servitude to the patients under LAD, have joined the supported living team.
There are many people in the community who favored LAD over supported living. After
the massive change and almost all of the patients decided to leave LAD, they face a
problematic situation.
These are the possible impacts that the change in the social and in the health care services have
done.
The overall impact of recent change in health and social care
The overall impact is as good as the one that is related with the scenario of the case study. It
must be understood that the change in the health care system is mainly needed in order to
improve the condition of the patients’ daily life. Moreover they have looked for more improved
servitude and the behaviors of the health workers. If the changes are made according to the
criteria of the patients then the impact must be positive as far as the patients are concerned. In the

condition of the old company can get bad and the employees of the organization may start to
leave the company in order to search job security (Elssamadisy, 2009).
The appropriate service response
The response of the local community and the family of the patients are very effective in order to
decide the success of the change. There are many ways through which the feedback of the
servitude can be taken. The service response can be gathered through different techniques like,
surveys and interviews. It is also effective for the organization if they go through the admission
details of the patients and the discharge time of the patient. These will help the organization to
know the actual feedback of the patients. That is where the success of the change will be

Task 3
The key principals in change management using Kotter’s eight step model
Kotter’s eight step model has the clear elaboration about why changes are needed in the
organization (Jovičić et al., 2011). When it comes to the point of changing the environment or the
processes that are being used in the health care organizations, Kotter’s eight step models are
really useful. The model can be described in the following way,
Create urgency
In this stage of the model it is elaborated that if the organization decides to bring change in the
environment then the urgency of making the changes must be created in the organizational
environment. It is to be said that the employees and the workers who are in association with the
organization must make themselves prepare for the changing situations. The poor performance of
the organization and the negative feedback from the people who have been using the servitude of
the organization can make the organization to take a decision of making changes. The changes
can be done in the following way,
Identifying the threats and develop scenarios that could help the organization in future.
The opportunities must be exploited in order to make the changes.
The patients or the stake holders can be requested in order to seek help.
In the case study, the local community has taken a firm decision in order to make change in the
process by which the patients were being treated. That is why they decided to take the servitude
of supported living.

The vote must go in favor of the decision if there is any need of changing the organizational
environment. In this scenario, unions can be formed inside the organization that will give all
kinds of support in order to make the changes. In the case study, the local community has played
the role of the union where they have decided to make the change to provide a better servitude to
the disable patients (Morris, 2010). In this stage many things can be done like,
It is necessary to identify a true leader in the organization in order to form the coalition.
The commitment of the people of the organization must be taken.
The performance of the people of the organization must be checked in order to find the
efficiency among them.
Create a vision to change
The case study has clearly elaborated that the patients need independent lives and that is the main
cause why they left the servitude of LAD. This is then point in this case that if the change in the
organizational environment are to be brought then the vision of the change must be elaborated to
the people of the organization. The following steps will clearly elaborate the fact of creating a
vision to change the organizational behavior.
Determining the centre cause of the change.
The future of the organization must be summarized to every single employee of the
organization.
The strategies to create the change must be planned.
Communicate the vision
