EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As per this report, change is the important factor which is being considered by the
business so they can achieve the heights of the higher growth rate and profitability. Change
management is the process of implementing the change within the organisation so that they can
meet the emerging tends of the market. This report is based on the case study in which Rita is the
owner of the Barnacle Bay Country House Hotel, It is the luxury hotel which is having their
regular ad loyal customer and some of the local families are found of their lunch menu but with
the effect of Change they are facing huge competition and they implement the change with in the
organisation and analyse the various factors which hurdle the implementation of change.

INTRODUCTION
Change management is the aspects or the process which set the tools for the leading the
people side of change in order to achieve the prefix outcome within the organisation. It is
necessary for the business to use the appropriate change management model by which they can
meet the upcoming threats and the trends in the market(Villani and Lechner, 2021). Barnacle
Bay Country House Hotel is the chosen organisation for this report as it is the basically known as
“Barnacles”, which is located on the Scottish Coast in th4 rural area which is few miles far from
a market town. The hotel is having 100 en-suite bedrooms, an outdoor swimming pool and nine
hole golf course and a sizeable restaurant. The hotel is owned by Rita Clement and she is
owning the business when her father died five year ago. But due to emerging changes and the
impact of Brexit and the emerging trends of the market in the business. But now the business is
facing certain difficulty which will be discussed in this report and also also analyse the impact of
change on the business and also use the certain approaches to change.
Analyse the impact has unplanned and emergent changes had on the hotel.
Emergent change is all about the meaningful and powerful cultural shift of the entire
organisation which includes the cooperation, strengthening an organisation as a unified team. It
also includes the meeting, working together etc. this impact the overall functionality of the
business. Change sometimes shows the spontaneous and unplanned way which is known as
emergent change.
Unplanned changes are the factors which is not controllable by the individual or have
certain impact on the profitability of the company as it is not executed or implemented by the
management itself so it brings the effects in the business which can be work as the threat for the
company. It is the aspects which is being taken by the hotel in order to cope-up with the certain
functions of the external environment. There are few impact of such changes which are
explained as follows:
Develop the duties and responsibilities of the individual as emerging changes means
employees need to focus more their given job role so that they can effectively make good
results in their working. The owner of the Barnacles must take the full consideration so
that they can effectively make better choice of the business.

are fond of their services and regularly visit the hotel of its traditional Sunday lunch but now the
people shifted to take away. The main threat for the hotel which is looming on the horizon,
Peacock Hall, a a large stately home a few miles away from the Barnacles, they have recently
converted into a plush, four star-hotel with health spa, leisure club and hi-tech conference
facilities.
For the development and the betterment of the hotel, there are certain ways by which
Rita, the owner of the Barnacles can change their certain services and modify them in order to
have the higher growths and profits. There are certain model related to the change management
which also helps the owner to understand the change and analyse the change in order effectively
implement the change in their operations. In relation to this, McKinsey 7-S model is being used in
order to helps the organisation for their further development and it is listed as follows:
Change strategy: It is the action plan or the aspects which can leads to have the certain
impact on the profitability of the business. every business make the plan in order to
maintain the competitive advantage in the market and In context to Barnacles, when they
are implementing the change then they must frame the strategies in order to cope up with
the permanent employees so that they can effectively make better decision in the market.
Structure of the Hotel: This defined that how the business is being organised or how
teams and department are being formed which also included who is reporting to whom.
This is the aspects in the Rita have to plan their organisation structure hierarchical so that
they can effectively maintain that who are report to whom and all the employees of
Barnacles can effectively show their potential and their manager can assign the duties and
responsibilities according to their skills and abilities.

Process and business systems: It is defined as the daily activities which is being
operated y the business for which the staff is being used in order to get work done. In
relation to Barnacles, the owner have to ensure the full efficiency of the employees by
which they can satisfy the customer and full fill their wants within set period of time. It
is the aspects in which all the task and the concern person is being responsible for the
profitability and the growth of the hotel.
Culture and shared values of the company: These are the aspects which is related to
the working environment and general working ethics of the individual and they are called
as superordinate goals(Luu, 2020). In relation to Barnacles, they must emphasis on
creating positive working environment so that their employees give their best in
performing given task within the organisation. When owner have the right approach in
order to have the better results with their employees then they can reach to their desired
goals implement the change in their operations.
Style or manner of the work: It refereed to the leadership style which is being used by
the business on the basis of their business and the operations. They can effectively make
the better choices for picking the right technology in their functions in order to implement
the change within the organisation and this also helps them to have the better results in
them. Barnacles must adopt the autocratic leadership style so that the leader can assign
or direct their employees in well defined manner.
Staff involved: It is related to the factors which is related to the employees that company
is having sufficient number of employees or not. Workforce planning is also included in
this type of business. In relation to Bamacles, there are currently 75 employees who are
employed and out of which 50 are local residence. But in order to get efficiency or
implementing the change within the organisation, they need to hire more employees who
can manage the whole operations of the hotel.
Skilled of employees: It is defined the employees and the general capabilities of the their
employees so the hotel must emphasis on having the talented and dynamic employees
who can adjust in changing environment and work according to them. In context to
Barnacles, human resource manager must emphasis on the requirement of the type of
workforce so that they can implement the employees according to the requirement so that
all the tasks within the organisation effectively completed.

What are the conflicts might be faced by Rita while implementing any change?
There are certain issues which is being faced by the Rita, the owner of Barnacles while
implementing change in their operation related to the inefficiency of their employees or not
fulfilling the order given the guest on time. Various factors are explained as follows:
Resistance: It is the main concern for the employees that they can not easily make
change in their operations so that they can not effectively meet the change within the
organisation. As they get too comfortable in their present job and this is the factor which
is being addressed on a psychological level eliminate the barrier which restrict the
evolution. With the help of supporting staff in Barnacles, employees can understand that
it time to adopt the change management and have to take new training in their operations.
Failed Embrace: Initiating the plan is great but it is no use when the employees are not
having strong commitment towards their job role(Coventry and Nutley, 2020). They
should be encourage for the new philosophies and to break their barriers to order to
accept the change within the organisation. In context to Barnacles, they can have the
better understanding, if the employees are focused to their related goals or the work
commitments.
Setbacks: It is the process of analysing the final decision before implementing the
change within the organisation. It is necessary for the company to use the appropriate
factor of production and think or analyse all the process before implementing the change

owner must analyse the appropriate strategy so that they can effectively implement the

It is concluded from the above report that change management plays an significant role in
the development and the growth of the company. Here are different type of changes which is
have impacted the overall functionality of the business. This report also cover the impact of
unplanned and emergent changes within the business as it make employees more responsible and
they become capable to handle the pressure. Moreover, McKinsey's 7 S model is being used in
order to implement the change within the business by analyse the strategy, system, style, staff,
structure, shared vales and skills. Lastly, they identify the implications while implementing the
change and they have faced the Failed Embrace, Resistance, Planning and setbacks.
RECOMMENDATIONS
From the above discussion it is recommended to the Rita that they can give the advance
and brain storming training to their employees so that they can easily accepts the change and
work in the changing environment. Managers must make the setbacks plans so that they can
review the actual performance or the actions to be taken for the uplifting of the hotel.
McKinsey's 7 S model also helps to place every factor at the right place and their best use out of
them which helps the Rita to meet the competitive and the changing scenario of the market.
