Discussion:
The two most important aspects of the Charter of Rights and Freedom that were identified includes
democratic rights to the citizens of Canada and the right to live and get a job in any part of the
country. Although the Charter gives a number of rights to its people; however, rights like freedom of
expression are limited to protect the society from hate campaigns or instances like child
pornography. The Charter is applicable across the country and in some aspects includes the
individuals who travel to the country for one reason or another. According to me, Canadians were
not better off without the integration of the Charter into the constitution. The Charter is a living
example that the Canadian government is making every effort to adopt the democratic values and
integrate them in the constitution to make the country a better place to live in. The Charter is
basically a series of rights and freedoms that are given to the people to live a life that they would like
to. Freedom of religion, languages, residence etc. are some of the other important aspects of the
Charter that give more liberty to the people of the country.
Although certain rights include the visitors of the country as well; however, not all are open to them.
With this, Canada is perceived to be a more liberal and democratic nation that works in accordance
with the interests that are perceived to be in the best interest of their citizens at the end of the day.
Apart from this, I strongly believe that the extension of new rights to the citizens would assist in
gaining diversity and more tolerance towards one another in the country. A number of people across
the country have raised a concern on the integration of the Charter in the constitution. Individuals
have pointed out that certain characteristics are not wholesome and can be subjected to different
interpretations by people. However, this does not make the Charter or the constitution anti-
democratic or a drawback for the citizens of the country. The rights and freedoms should be
perceived as a positive factor rather than a negative one.
