Section 1
1. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): The theory was developed by Aaron T. Beck when
he noticed people have internal dialogues forming conversation with self which has a
profound impact on people’s behavior. The theory engages the patient in discussing their
problems, and accordingly, the therapist sets goals. Controlling emotions, coping with
grief, dealing with physical illness, managing mental health condition symptoms are
some of the CBT’s benefits. Since the therapy focuses on one issue at a time, it is a
disadvantage of the therapy (Linehan, 2018).
2. Motivational Interviewing: Developed by William R Miler, motivational interviewing is
a counseling approach that helps people resolves insecurities and ambivalent feelings to
find internal motivation. Some universal benefits of this approach are increased success
in sobriety, higher post-program sobriety, increased participation in recovery and better
treatment retention. Since the therapy requires time, it is hard to get the client multiple
times. Although the treatment always helps in finding the problems however it fails to
find motivation every time which is a disadvantage of this method (Ekong & Kavookjian,
2016).
3. Narrative Interviewing: A written or spoken summary of connected events is a narrative
interview. In the therapy, a patient is asked questions about their experiences which helps
to understand their perspectives of the experiences. The theory can be used with all
people since it lets them talk freely and the benefit of using this theory is to understand
the schema accumulated through their social and cultural experiences. Disadvantages of
the approach are that it leads to an enormous amount of data and it is a time-consuming
process (Anderson & Kirkpatrick, 2016).

4. Resource Therapy: Professor Gordon Emmerson was the developer of resource therapy.
According to resource therapy, people are composed of parts, called resources that work
towards the integration of these parts. Several benefits such as building awareness,
feeling more integrated and balanced, and healing early traumas can be experienced
through this method. Often the search of the part not coping with the other becomes
difficult to understand or unexplainable by patients (Emmerson, 2015).

life. In order to help Tricia overcome her anxiety, depression and her feeling of insecurities
simple empathy will not be adequate. The goals that Tricia needs to achieve in order to help
her deal with her psychological issues are:
Goal 1: Tricia will become more aware of her psychological symptoms and address her
things.
Goal 2: Tricia will talk about her feeling to a person she trusts.
Goal 3: Tricia will talk to her husband and come to a conclusion.
Goal 4: Tricia will seek help whenever she needs and not hesitate.
Goal 5: She will believe that she is capable of coping with her emotional and psychological
reactions.
Goal 6: Reduce anxiety and become more tolerant of anxious feeling.
