1. Determination of the main cultural &/or sociological factors from the given scenario
Cultural factors have the emphasis over aspects such as religion, language, observations,
customs, gender acceptable roles and occupations, dietary practices, intellectual artistic and
leisure-time pursuits. This provides the basic information regarding culture and community from
which a person belongs. This has main association with behaviour and values that have been use
by a person in performance of their workings.
Sociological factors are those that have direction relation with the numerous elements of
society. This will have positive and negative impact that resultant into the change in elements,
structure, function and orientation. In other words, it can be understood as the elements that bring
change in the social status of overall society or a person. Some factors commonly considered
under this includes lifestyles, housing, discrimination etc.
In the current report, the case considered is about the Alice who is single mother to two
young children. She faced the many difficulties in her early childhood. She moved many times
and lived with many relatives. The education was interrupted and the reason did not have the
good reading/writing and numeracy skills. Alice mother died two year ago. She removed from
the own family as a child. At that time, she experienced mental health issues and alcohol
dependency. After the death of the mother there was no support and established connections with
her family in northern Queensland. Afterwards, she is resourceful. She wanted that nothing will
repeat in the life of their children’s. This is the reason that wanted to provide stable home and
school experience (when the time comes). Currently, Alice and children are depended upon the
supportive payment they received from Centrelink. Recently, she was informed about the leaving
of house that sharing with a cousin and her cousin’s boyfriend. She has a week before she needs
to vacate. This situation resultant into the situation of depression as this is the last straw for Alice
as help.
In consideration to the above detailed case information, the cultural and sociological
factors faced by Alice are presented below:
Racism: Racism is done with Alice where she forcibly removed from her own home
family after the death of her mother.

Housing: She also get notice to vacate the house where she lives in sharing with a cousin
and her cousin’s boyfriend,
Lifestyle: She never lived perfect life where moved many times and lived with various
relatives in an urban aboriginal community.
Education: She did not get the perfect education that resultant into reading/writing and
numeracy skills issue.
No support from family: After the mother’s death, she has no support from family
members along with connection.

The information about structural causes disadvantage related to Alice life along with its
contribution in occurrence of present situation is presented below;
 Faced many difficulties in early childhood where moved many times and lived with
various relatives in an urban aboriginal community. This would be the reason for poor
connection with family members.
 Interrupted education that resultant into minimal reading/writing and numeracy skills.
This would be the reason that not able to get decent job.
 Early death of mother where not get the support from family and removed forcefully.
This would be the reason for unavailability of housing.

Some of the social and cultural expectations that others might have towards Alice and her
family are presented below;
Proper housing: It is must for betterment of Alice to provide permanent housing
solution.
Education to Children: She wanted that her children does not face the same situation.
Better education of them is necessary to improve career.
Financial support or job: Alice has no support from family. Financial support and job
will help to get the permanent source of income.

in the current scenario. The welfare organisation can work in the direction of better health of all
and education of children. Whereas, social and cultural institutions can ensure about the
providence of better lifestyle along with permanent housing. They can also help the Alice in
identification of the income source so never will be sitting up on some others help.
Providence of effective health and education provide the opportunity regarding
ascertainment of future opportunities where they will never face the same situation through
which they going in past and present. On the other hand, providence of better lifestyle and
housing provides the core strength to their life where they can focus over consideration of
positive aspects and grab the success in future. The job to Alice provides the strength regarding
improvement in nutrition and education of their children where they will easily counter any
adverse situation in future.
