1. Write a list of methods used to gather and document observed information in regards to child
development. From this list choose four and give me an explanation of what they are and what
information they assist us to gather.
Some of the methods that can be used for gathering and documenting the information related to
the child development are observations, portfolios, educator ratings, parent ratings, standardized
tests and more. These are important.
While observation gives us the basic idea regarding the action of the children, the portfolio gives us
the record of the data that has been collected over a long period of time. The educator ratings is
essential for the abilities in language and cognitive development and the standardized tests are
created towards the fit for the testing of the standards.

The major key elements that make up important and meaning observations are:

I would categorize the milestones for the development of each and every child. Furthermore I would
make a chart to categorize each and every child on the basis of their abilities, skills and their interest
and then set up a milestone for each of them which will vary according to their capacity and then
implement care plans and activity plans for them.

Case Study / Scenerio
JM is a 10 month old child. This morning JM was playing ball with one of the educators. The ball
rolled past JM and she was unable to reach out and get it from where she sat. JM is not yet able
to crawl. However, she attempted to reach forward to grasp the ball but was still too far from it.
JM leaned forward until she was lying on her belly, which brought her closer to the ball. Still
being a little short of it, she pushed off the floor with her feet and boosted herself forward
towards the ball. JM stretched her left arm forward again and reached the ball, grasping it in her
fingertips. She brought the ball to her mouth and smiles. She seemed proud of herself.
a. What observation method do you feel would be the best to record this information ?
The method of Participant observation is suitable for the recording of these information since the
participant was active .
b. What is the benefit of recording this activity / event? What information does this activity provide us
with?
While recording the activity of JM, it has been beneficial for the observer to understand the level of
developments. The ability of JM towards catching the ball. The will, the effort the child was giving
towards the achievement of task was recorded in the observation procedure which was beneficial to
understand and set the milestone for the child development. This is because normally the child at
this age is able to crawl, stand by help.

JM is pretty ahead as per the development stages in connection to the age. Being a toddler, and a 10
moth year old she showed enough courage, will and enthusiasm .Thus belong to the stage of

12. Ella (3yrs) has spina bifida which makes walking difficult and she has a degree of urinary
incontinence which means she sometimes wets herself at preschool if she does not make it to the
toilet in time. Ella also has learning difficulties. Observations of Ella at play reveal a pattern of social
isolation during free play and acute shyness during social interactions. Explain how you might
demonstrate an understanding and application of inclusive principles when interpreting
observations of Ella. What would be your strategy moving forward for Ella.
The physical and the medical deficiency in the child is leading her to isolate and create some a drift
among her class mates and inadequate programming for the observers in the care units. While
interpreting the actions of the child some of the inclusive principles that I need to follow are the
ensuring of treating every child irrespective of any of her medical issues.

Project/Assessment Questions
Part A
You are a senior educator, observing a child who is part of a group of children learning a new dance. The
group is being instructed by another educator and you are purely observing. The children have been shown 3
actions (clap, jump, stomp) and they are practising them in a simple order. The specific child you are
observing can perform all the actions individually, but she is having trouble putting them together in the
correct order, she is becoming frustrated.
Identify what stage of learning the child you are observing is currently in?
The stage in which the child of discussion Is hailing from is between Preoperational and Concrete
operational.
Describe what other kinds of information you might collect to help support and understand the reason she is
having trouble with coordination?
Some of the other information that I need to collect is the health status of the child, the stages of the mental
development, the learning development of the child and the guidance the child is getting from the care
givers and other adults.
Part B
In a brief paragraph for each of the below, explain how you might interpret information and observations to
identify
1/ Individual emerging skills
To identify the emerging skills of the group of children on an individual basis, I would firstly need to look
towards the stages of the development and the learning the child is while he or she is dancing. I furthermore
need to sit back and notice the actions of the children as a whole since all of them have different actions and
way of learning and responding to the skills.
2/ Capabilities
For the identification of the capabilities in the children I must firstly ensure the different moves and the
actions they are performing. As per the observations, one of the children was unable to find the rhythm
among the actions taught to him which includes clapping, jumping and stomping. The child was not able to
arrange all the actions together in a methodological form. Though I realised that the child was able to act
according to the individual actions, he was not able to apply in stages and was thus feeling frustrated.

Some of the ways I can assess and identify the potential of the child includes observation, validating his
interest, encouraging his expression and the ways the child is initiating the expression to perform the
different steps. Furthermore, the three actions,clap, jump, stomp, that was instructed to him on which he
was not able to imply effectively are some of the fact which determines the potential of the child of interest.
4/ Interests and Preferences of the children
The interest and the preferences of the children can be identified mostly by her actions and capabilities to
execute the actions or the steps that was taught to him. Though the child wanted to perform all the actions
methodologically, still she could not. This was making her frustrated.
Part C
You are planning a physical outdoors activity for a group of children in your care. How would you consult
with the children and why should you consult with the children before you implement the activity?
Getting the children to engage and involve themselves in lots of fun and physical activities. I believe it is one
of the best ways to keep them active and healthy. But while planning a physical activity in the outdoors for
the group of the little children and the toddlers in my care, I would like to consult with the children. This is
because with the growing number of instances and illness due to the environmental pollution and other
diseases, I feel it is importantto known whether all of the children are comfortable for an outdoor activity.
Consultation with the children while planning activities are important to take their consent and decisions
regarding their comfort towards the activity.

Conduct some research of your own and explain how privacy legislation and its principles impact on:
a) What information are you allowed to collect under the legislation about children/families in your
care?
According to the education and care service national law act 2010, some of the information that I am
allowed to collect includes details regarding the emergency contact, details of the authorized person
who will collect the child, the address, the telephone number, the occupational details of the
parents together with the age, health status and the types of vaccination they have received till
date.
b) What procedures must you follow to protect the information you have collected.
I must ensure all the security of the gathered data to preserve the right for the protection of the
personal data under the clause of the confidentiality. Documentation of the data in password
protected data bases together with the ensuring of the all the protection from the data leakages are
some of the major factors that I need to look upon.

c) If you are requested to disclose the information to others what is the procedure you must follow.
While responding to the request to disclose the information of the children, I would straight away
deny to do so. In case of emergency, governmental interventions like police, national NGOs and
other incidences of utmost importance I would follow the legal procedure of the signing the
recipients regarding the purpose of their collection data before disclosure.

Explain how the observer might influence the interactions or behaviour of the child they are observing.

While being asked to undergo a list of things that might influence the interaction and the connection and the
behaviour of the children by the observer I believe that children are attention seekers and when observing
and looking at their activities they tend to show their skills the most to the observer in the mind that they
can also achieve something nice. My entire assumptions is encircled around the believe that the
observations or the process influences the child with the observation of the opposed towards the influence
of the behaviour management towards the analysis of the behavioural management of the child and the
information learning analysis. I furthermore understood that environment, activity, number of patients and
the session lengths tends to influence the behaviour of the child.

Observation Systems
Explain how you would designan observation system.
Ensure you include, how you would consult and include input from other staff members, how the system
would work with in the whole centre.
Caregivers like me tend to use numerous ways towards the collection of the data for the assessments. The
selection of the appropriate observational assessment techniques is the basis for the design for the
observation system
The design can be therefore include observation of the children in the following steps. Furthermore I believe
the entire process of the designing is not only encircled to one particular person but also involves input from
other staff members for effectively working and executing actions and assessment results in the child care
centre of discussion.
