INTRODUCTION
Child abuse may result in range of emotional effects. The neglect on the part of the parent
which eventually affects the child’s safety, well-being and health. This may result in delay in
psychological as well as physical development of the child. This study will focus on examining
the one actual and one potential problem with intervention related with case study. Furthermore,
the study will highlight upon understanding of child abuse and neglect. Moreover, this study also
significantly outlines the role as a school nurse for the mandatory reporting associated with the
child abuse.
PART 1
Brief summary of case study
The 7 year old Maisie Smyth, has not been bringing lunch to eat. Maisie has been
withdrawn of late and was found asleep under a tree. An appropriate lunchtime disco has been
arranged for the Maisie and two other grade. The Maisie shares that, her parents keep on fighting
and they might break up. Upon asking if she feels safe at home? Maisie replied yes. Further,
Maisie wants the teacher to talk to her parents and ask both of them to stop fighting.
Examining one actual and one potential problem with intervention.
The actual problem associated with the specific case study is the child abuse and neglect
because the parents has been fighting and it tends to have negative impact upon the mental health
of the child.
Crisis intervention is one of the effective program which helps in treating child abuse and

(2017)). The actual harm to the Child abuse may occur within the home, school, communities,
organisation among which the child interacts. Child abuse have a negative impact on the child
which may have adverse emotional, psychological and physical impact of the child. As per the
world health organisation or child abuse is referred to as all forms of emotional and physical ill
treatment, neglect, sexual abuse, negligent with me, other sort of exploitation eventually leads to

potential and actual harm of the health of the child. The child abuse in the children result in
potential and actual harm to the child and eventually leads to failure in the child’s emotional,

abuse. As per the specific case, Maisie Smyth, has not been bringing lunch to eat. Maisie has
been withdrawn of late and was found asleep under a tree. The parents have refused all the
resources offered and provided for the nutrition. The parents keep of fighting which tends to
have negative impact on the mental and emotional health of the child.
Fighting of the parents and loud yelling and use of abusing language may in turn disrupt
the mental and emotional health of the child (Lines, Hutton & Grant (2020)). Appropriate set of
social skill training is considered to be prevalent which helps in improving the health outcomes

of the parent which eventually affects the child’s safety, well-being and health and eventually
maybe threatened to specific harm. Neglect is considered to be as the lack of attention from the
parents and results in lack of attention, nurturing and love. The neglect among the child may
affect the growth and development of the children (Child Abuse and Neglect, 2020). This may
result in delay in psychological as well as physical development of the child which leads to
impaired neuropsychological functions. Child abuse in turn causes severe health issues to the
child and it might have long-term consequences. The child abuse and neglect may result in
increased risk of physical, behavioural mental health problems like withdrawal of late,
depression, anxiety, drug misuse, violence, obesity, etc.

home by the family members or parents. The children who experience neglect and abuse may
experience lack of development, and securities and low self-esteem. They in turn also have

the appropriate care for the patient. The key role and responsibility of the school has is to
administer treatment and medication for the child to provide best possible care related with child
abuse and neglect. The nurse also focuses on educating the patient associated with management
of child neglect and child abuse. It is very important for the school now to understand the key
problem associated with students and help them provide an environment which helps them
boosting up the growth and development. The health of the student is mainly associated with the
ability of the child to learn. The school nurse focuses on supporting the student in order to
provide healthcare intervention, assessment (Moore & et.al. (2015)). The school nurse also
focuses on effectively addressing the complex medical problems associated with the child to
provide them with the best care and treatment. The key intervention is to provide parent and
caregivers support. This way it is useful in supporting the child and helps in better nurturing and
non-violent parenting. Education and live skill approach is also an affective intervention which is
the useful in treating child abuse and neglect. Enrolling child in better quality education helps in
acquiring appropriate Degree of skills, experience and knowledge which helps in building
resilience and also reducing this factors.

individual who are responsible for reporting the suspected neglect or abuse associated with the
child. It is considered to be very crucial for the school professionals to effectively understand the
relevance of mandatory reporting as well as the medical, behavioural and other indicators
associated with the child abuse and neglect (Mathews, Bromfield, Walsh & Vimpani, (2015)).
Mandated reporting is considered to be one of the legal requirement for the nurses of the school
to affectively report the occurrence of any abuse associated with the child. As per the specific
case scenario, Maisie keeps coming to school with no lunch and it also has visibly lost
significant weight. Moreover, the parents have refused all the resources offered and provided for
the nutrition. The school nurse must ensure that the relevant set of action has been taken which
leads to higher care results and better outcomes. However, providing appropriate degree of
parent support by school nurses talking to the parents and giving them appropriate counselling
will help in improving the condition of the Maisie.

From the conducted study it has been summarized that, the family counselling intervention
is useful because it improves the physical and emotional development of the child and growth in
the child brain. Social skills training is useful because it helps in improving the social interaction
and is highly prominent in treating children who are withdraw of late. Child abuse have a
